The Space

The Neighborhood:
Our home is in the wonderful Detroit Shoreway neighborhood on the near west side of Cleveland which hosts an arts district (two blocks away) with a movie theater, avant garde Cleveland Public Theater, art galleries, shops, a great coffee house (Gypsy Bean) and some of the best restaurants in the city (Luxe, Spice, XYZ, The Parkview Tavern and Latitude to name a few). The bike and pedestrian path leading to the lake and Edgewater Park (with a beach and marina) is about 4 blocks north of us. Wendy Park is a great place to enjoy the sunset at the lake with the Sunset Grill offering drinks and bar-type food. Also - our neighborhood has the most gardens on the city-wide Garden Walk and if you love gardens, I'd be happy to show you around some of my neighbors' amazing flower and vegetable gardens!

Our home:
We have a four bedroom home built in 1906 and it is is in the Franklin-West Clinton Historic District with lots of pretty homes around us. The living room has a wall of books for you to enjoy and the family room has french doors to a big back porch with an old fashioned glider to have breakfast on in the summer and enjoy a great view of the flowers, fruits and garden. Wi-fi available.

Our backyard is a miniature urban farm with fruit trees, berry bushes, a strawberry patch, vegetable garden, four chickens that give us fresh eggs every morning (spring through fall) flower gardens and outdoor art. Our yard is in the annual Cleveland Garden Walk - come visit June 22 and 23, 2013 and see 250+ gardens in 10 neighborhoods around the city!

Your room:
The guest room has a comfortable double bed and a futon sofa that folds out to sleep two more people. The room has a ceiling fan plus a room air conditioner for the summer. It is sunny and spacious.

In the morning, we will lay out everything you need to make yourself a great breakfast - or if you are an early riser, I will make it for you. You can have OJ, tea, french press coffee and fresh eggs from our four hens, cereal, toast, jam made by the "Detroit Shoreway canning guild" that I am in, plus whatever fruit may be in season.

It's a shared bathroom with us, with a shower and tub.

Downtown Cleveland is a quick bus ride, train ride or 5 minute drive away. University Circle is a 12 minute car ride to the east. The airport is a 15 minute drive west. We are within a 10 minute walk to the Rapid Transit train station which goes to all of the above places I've mentioned.

  • This was my first-ever AirBnb booking, and it completely lived-up to my needs and expectations. Everything was just as described. Very clean. Very comfortable. And, the hosts, Bobbi and Mark, couldn't have been more hospitable. I especially appreciated: 1) the strong wi-fi available; 2) the offer of breakfast with fresh fruit salad, yogurt, french-press coffee, and even eggs from their hens out back; and, 3) the nice neighborhood (that's just a couple of blocks from one of Cleveland's burgeoning entertainment scenes (live theater, movie theater, galleries, restaurants, pubs, etc., etc., etc.). If you need a (weekday) place to stay in Cleveland, do yourself a favor....

  • My stay in Bobbi's house was really great, she was very helpful with my arrival and my departure.
The house and the room are really nice and located in a cool neighborhood: Detroit Shoreway.
I would definitely stay there again if I come back to Cleveland!

  • It is not every day one can say something was as easy as a Sunday morning, but staying at the Bobbi and Mike household was. It was easy to find, had off street parking, fluffy towels, and a guest room stocked with items one have forgot. The topper for me is how genuinely nice our host was. Everything from pancakes from scratch and coffee to making sure our car was not stuck at the house during the marathon. As a side note the dog is delightful. I am not a dog lover per say and I couldn't help but like the chap.

  • Bobbi's home is absolutely gorgeous, and she and her husband couldn't be more friendly and warm. It's in a good location for getting around Cleveland, and since we are animal lovers we were thrilled with the friendly cat and dog! We had to cut our stay short because of some unexpected travel, and are very sorry we did since we were having a great time at Bobbi's. We will absolutely stay there again in the future!

  • I'd slogged through a really tough 12 hours of travel, alone, tired, all my stuff packed tight into my Honda Civic for a cross-country move. When I arrived, Bobbi was there to give me a key, introduce me to her wonderful dog, Andrew, and then left me to unpack, eat, and chill out in peace. She let me park in the driveway, out behind the house, by a beautiful garden, and had breakfast for me in the morning. Loved it! Thank you, Bobbi!

Hi - my husband Mark McDermott and I are both non-profit community development professionals. I am also very active in my neighborhood and citywide with various civic groups. We are both gardeners. We have traveled around the US, Canada, Mexico, western Europe and Poland. We live in a great neighborhood in which we helped to create a community orchard and garden a few years ago. We have a 25 year old daughter in Portland, OR and a 29 year old son in Cleveland. We have a dog and a cat.
