  • If you are looking for something cheap then its the place, otherwise a big no. The pousada is basically in a favela! no reception! and you have 2 routes to the entrance of the pousada, either by taking a stairs of 100steps, or taking the main road of the favela entrance which is very smelly. Some taxi's rejected taking me to this pousada because they don't want to pass this road. At one time, someone from the favela offered me cocaine which made me more scared! It can be also very noisy (so bring your earplugs with you), a barking dog all night or a party on the pool can be very common.

  • Overall a great experience. The location is within a 10 minute walk from the beach and provides access to both Ipanema and Copacabana. That said, there are no shops adjacent to the pousada and there is a steep hill to climb if you just want to 'duck out' for a quick bite. The proximity to the favella made the experience all the more interesting and we felt very safe with lots of police around.

The staff (Claudete) went the extra mile to help us make the most of Rio. Facilities are very clean and welcoming. Too bad we didn't get to meet the hosts who do not live on premises. There was also no permanent person at the front desk so you have to think in advance if you need help from reception.

  • My stay at Miguel and Ronaldo's place was great. At first I thought: where the hell did I end up now, but after short moments I realized it was all good. The posada , albeit on a hill (going home can be a bit of a challenge but taxi's are cheap), has a perfect location. Go left you walk down to Copacovana, go right you walk into Ipanema. The hosts are extremely friendly and helpful, just let them know. Don't worry about the favela on the hill. The road here is completely safe.

  • Favela location, difficult to get official taxis, many better & safer alternatives available nearby.

After making the booking on air bnb, an email was received from Miguel requesting information to confirm dates and bed requirements. After responding promptly and following up on a few occasions and getting no response, we arrived in Rio a little apprehensive. We got into Rio early morning from Campo Grande with a new friend we had met in the Pantanal who happened to live just 2 blocks from Pousada Casa del Angel.

Fortunately we were able to wait at our friends place for a few hours before we walked to Pousada Casa del Angel to check on our reservation and also the location of Pousada Casa del Angel because we now had some concerns regarding the location. Upon arrival at Pousada Casa del Angel, Miguel did not seem to be clear that we had a booking and after some confusion showed us the room that had a view of a construction site. Whilst the room looked OK as did the bathroom, the communal areas were a bit of a mess with furniture etc being repaired tools all over the place. Upon returning to our friends place around midday to collect our bags we asked several official taxi drivers to take us to Pousada Casa del Angel, with each taxi driver refusing to take us there. This is because Pousada Casa del Angel is essentially part of a favela. As it was proving so difficult to get an official taxi to Pousada Casa del Angel during the middle of the day (we didn’t want to walk to this pousada with our bags since it is entering a favela), we decided not to risk having taxi problems at night when returning from an evening out. The last thing we wanted to do was walk up to the favela after a night out as it is not considered safe. After returning our backpacks to our friends apartment, we once again walked to Pousada Casa del Angel to speak with Miguel and explain the difficulties we were having getting taxi drivers to bring us to his pousada. Miguel was dismissive of the issue and stated that he had already received the money from the booking. He basically shrugged his shoulders several times and said if we didn’t want to stay at there it is fine with him but we were not getting any kind of refund. We decided against staying there anyway, despite the money we had paid, as what appears as green on the map is a favela upon closer inspection and we soon discovered there are many other easier and safer alternatives in Ipanema and Copacabana.

We ended up staying just a stones throw away in Barão da Torre where there are many options for a similar cost.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Casa del ángel 5 Pousada. The room was really beautiful & modern, spacious and spotless clean, the same counts for the bathroom. The entrance of the Pousada is very nice and tasteful decorated with art. The location was perfect for us and in less then a few walking minutes we were at the beach of Copacabana and we felt safe at all times. Miguel was very kind, easy going, helpful and there when you needed him. We will recommend Casa del ángel to our friends and would not hesitate to stay here again with our next Rio visit.

  • Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay at this Pousada. The morning we got there there was no one to greet us. Ordinarily this wouldn't be a big deal but the problem is that the maid was not sure what room to place us in. We were placed temporarily in a room but had to move to another room the next day. The rooms were Okay but everything was slightly damp. We sporadically received towels and the Wifi BARELY worked. The Pousada is located near a Favela so it was VERY difficult to catch a cab back at night. We also never saw our hosts. This was the worst part of our Rio adventure. I wouldn't stay here again.

  • Although we didn't stay at Casa Del Angel we had a really positive experience with them. Unfortunately we had some issues with obtaining an Brazilian visa and had to cancel our original flight and accommodation! Having not had to cancel accommodation before through air b&b we weren't sure what to expect! But these guys got straight onto it and provided us with most of our money back! We really appreciated it! Thanks Casa Del Angel!
