This 2nd flr room in a beautiful Victorian home has 1 queen bed and a semi-private bath. Guests also use the kitchen and other public spaces. 1/2 hr to NYC via bus or train. Pool and large garden. Walk to anything you might need.
Beautiful Victorian with extensive gardens and pool. 1/2 hr from NYC via commuter bus on corner or train 2 blocks away. Walking distance to many restaurants, movie theater, parks, grocery stores.
This is a 2nd floor bedroom w/ a queen-size Sleep Number (adjustable firmness) bed and semi-private bath. The room has a desk and dresser. There is no space in this room for an additional mattress or bed. The bathroom is shared in the sense that it is the 2nd floor hall bathroom so there is no direct entrance from the bedroom to the bathroom. However no one else actually uses that bathroom. I have plenty of off-street parking. Free wireless internet. FIOS. Guests may use the extensive public spaces, including two parlors, dining room, 2 TV rooms (1st and 3rd floor), and eat-in kitchen.
Outdoors, the garden has flowers April-October. The pool is open June-August, although I can open it earlier or leave it open later by special request and with enough notice. In the pool area are a several tables with chairs or benches, plenty of lounge chairs, and a gas grill. There is a lovely screened-in gazebo with comfortable seating and a small table with benches. The gazebo gives a completely different view and feel to the gardens. Near the gazebo is a pond and stream with a bench.
This is a good house for children age 5 and up, especially in the summer when the pool is open. No child is allowed in the pool without a parent or responsible adult watching. The house is not toddler-proof so I prefer not to have children under 3-4 years old (except babies).
I will allow pets, but only by special prior arrangement.
I also list two other rooms with airbnb, both on the 3rd floor: Mermaid (queen bed and twin day bed) and Trains (2 twin beds and a trundle bed). This room cannot accommodate a third person as there isn't enough floor space for another bed, but either of the 3rd floor rooms can hold a third person (for an extra fee).
Guests may use the extensive public spaces, including two parlors, dining-room, 2 TV rooms (1st and 3rd floor), and eat-in kitchen. There are no TV sets or phones in the rooms.
Guests may use my washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board in the basement. I provide detergent and fabric softener (except for long term guests who should buy their own).
I have a treadmill and a weight machine in the basement for anyone who wants to use it.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests as much as they seem to want. I love to talk with people, but am also happy to just say hello and goodbye if that is what guests prefer.
This is my home so I am almost always around. I will allow guests to stay in the house while I am out-of-town, but no new guest can start a stay when I'm traveling.
With a large property for the neighborhood, my house feels like a great get-away from cities, but still has almost anything anyone might want in walking distance. There are lots of restaurants, a movie theater, grocery store, several parks, and all kinds of specialty stores in either of two quaint commercial areas that are easy walks from the house.
The commuter bus to NYC stops on the corner 2 houses away. There is a commuter train station 2 (long) blocks away. The train does not run on the weekend. Several NJTransit local buses stop within a block or so.
I have plenty of off-street parking behind the house. There is no overnight parking on the street.
A taxi from Newark Liberty Airport should cost about $60 including tip. Taxis are also available at Newark Penn Station (note NEWARK, not New York) for those arriving via Amtrak, and should cost about the same price as from the airport.
Other Things to Note
I usually make breakfast on Sunday mornings. For other mornings there is a coffee maker and coffee (you have to make it yourself since I don't make very good coffee), cold cereal of some kind, milk, etc. Guests are always welcome to use the kitchen to cook their own breakfast.
No smoking in the house.
Quiet 11 pm to 6 am.
Bathrooms and bedrooms do not have locks on the doors. For the bathrooms, a closed door means someone is in there so be sure to knock and wait before entering. Please leave the bathroom door open when you are finished using it.
Clean up after yourself in public areas.
Ask before cooking in the kitchen.
Please turn out lights when you are done using a space.
Pets may be permitted with prior arrangements.
Juliet gave us a warm welcome to her beautiful Victorian house. The room was spacious and comfortable with a view to the backyard with it's pool. The morning blueberries-chocolate pancakes Juliet had made, were just what one needs to kickoff a new year. Juliet is a very knowledgeable and interesting person, we loved chatting with her.
We definitely will be coming back.
I stayed in Juliet's property for a month.
Juliet's house is just amazing, just as described in the post. It is a huge, beautiful house, nicely located in upper montclair, close to nice restaurants, a big super market and other services. Also, very close to the NJ train and 2 steps away from the New York commuter bus. My room was nice, clean and with everything I needed to have a nice stay.
Juliet is a great host. She was very responsive to my questions even when I made my booking just one day in advance and made sure I had all the information to make it from the airport to her place.
The interaction with Juliet during this month has been seamless
Very nice, large room in a beautiful big house with well-kept Victorian paneling and decoration. Location is convenient to public transportation to NY as well as walking distance to a good selection of restaurants. Juliet was a warm and friendly host, and her home is so spacious that it was easy to respect her privacy. I had business in Montclair, so didn't have a chance to use the pool or enjoy the garden, but these are obvious bonus features. Would gladly stay again -- a good value.
Very comfortable room and space. The neighborhood is great. Very safe and lots of places to walk to for food and shopping. Very handy for exploring area by car also and public transport very close. Juliet very kindly helped me with any guidance needed for travel directions and restaurant recommendations. Had very restful and relaxing experience. The pool and garden a terrific plus, and I enjoyed seeing all the tender loving care going into the maintaining of it. Would definitely like a repeat visit.
The home and gardens are beautiful. It was just as described. I had a great experience staying at Juliet's place. She was extremely accommodating and flexible. The pancakes she made on Sunday morning were amazing. I wish I had some right now.
Juliet responded quickly and graciously to my request to stay in her beautiful Victorian home last weekend. She showed us around the house and to our room and welcomed us to use the pool and garden. Unfortunately it was overcast the entire time we were at her house se we could not use the pool, which I was really looking forward to. The garden is fantastic and I spend a long time just moving from one amazing flower bed to another and then sat out and had a drink and enjoyed the afternoon.
Our room was as pictured as was the shared bathroom.
The house was very conveniently located to two different adorable shopping centers and to the event I was in town to attend. We never took our car out until it was time to leave.
Juliet is a congenial, generous host. Flowers suited me very nicely, with a Sleep Number bed, desk for my computer, and closet space. Her kitchen is also nicely equipped for cooking, and the pool is a terrific plus in the summer! The bus to NYC stops 100 yards away, which couldn't be better, and shopping is within easy walking distance. Montclair is such a beautiful town to stay in, with plenty to do. I would definitely enjoy staying here again!

I'm quiet but sociable. I rarely watch TV because I have better things to do. I read a lot of books, mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy, and a lot of science/technology magazines. I have a passion for old books and own far too many of them.
I like to bake, but don't much enjoy regular cooking. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.
My children are grown and mostly moved out which leaves me rattling around in my dream house. I've always loved to have visitors and enjoy sharing my lovely house, gardens, and town with other people.
I like to travel, but haven't had as much opportunity to do so outside the US as I'd like.
