Carol extended such a warm welcome to us - very friendly and attentive to our needs with lots of good tips about places to visit in York, specialist shops and restaurants she would recommend. There is a very good, regular bus service going into the town centre (bus stop is about 5mins walk from the house), with buses every 10mins during the day. The bus journey takes about 10mins and you are just outside the Minster. You couldn't ask for a more attentive and friendly hostess! Thanks Carol.
Carol was a lovely host and the room and house an absolute pleasure to stay in. I was only there briefly but will stay again and wholeheartedly recommend both the room and the host!
Warm, comfortable, friendly, attentive, and accommodating! Would recommend Carol as a host to anyone. Carols chat and delicious home made food were particularly enjoyable!
Lovey house in good, quiet location. Local shops and pubs also regular buses into the centre of York. Carol is a great host, very interesting and well travelled. She was away when I arrived but had arranged for her friend Claire to meet me the first night to tell me about the local area, public transport and York. Carol and Claire both good company.
Carol was not in but her friend Claire took care of us during our stay. My what a house! It was gorgeously decorated, very comfortable, and filled with lots of books for the avid reader. The location gave easy access to nearby shops and a bus route that took us straight into the center of York. Claire was extremely helpful in providing us with ideas on places to visit and how to get about the city. We had such a wonderful time and would certainly stay here again on our next visit.
Lovely house and felt very welcome. Carol was away but Claire, her friend, looked after us amazingly and provided a map and advice on where to go in York. The house is about 2 miles from town but once you get to the river it's a nice walk in to town. Thoroughly recommend the film festival if you're there early November.
I only met Carol very briefly but we had a good chat and found her to be very helpful, especially about the immediate area around Acomb.
The house was clean and tidy so that it felt like home. The kitchen was always available for making breakfast in the morning and coffee/tea at any time.
Carol also recommended the excellent local baker/cafe where it was possible to eat breakfast and buy sandwiches etc for later in the day!
Acomb itself has a good variety of shops and the #1 bus runs regularly to York centre, conveniently stopping at the railway station with just a short walk to the National Railway Museum.
Many thanks Carol and may see you again!
We really enjoyed our stay with Carol in York - infinitely better than a hotel! Carol kindly met us at the station to give us our key when our train arrived & took our bags back to her house which saved us carrying them around whilst we explored the city. Our room had an en suite & a comfy double bed with plenty of blankets, & a hairdryer, towels & shower gel were provided. The neighbourhood was quiet so we slept well, & two windows meant the room was brightly-lit during the day. The house is a 20-30 minute walk from the city centre but the route is straight, simple & safe. As well as a delicious breakfast, Carol provided good company & chat over a cup of tea, & gave us tips & recommendations of places to eat & things to do. Thanks so much for making our stay so lovely!
For someone who needs a place to stay while in York, Carol's place will hold you up nicely. It is very conveniently located from the city centre or railway station. The room with ensuite bathroom is very spacious and all the amenities from fast wifi to iron all worked beautifully. Carol, as a host, was really cool. She, herself, traveled a lot and therefore has plenty of stories to exchange and tell.
I had a 2 night stay at Carol's and everything worked out really well. Carol is a friendly and interesting person who cares about others and goes out of her way to be kind and helpful. Her guest room is spacious, clean and comfortable, as is the bathroom. I can happily recommend Carol and her place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the York area.
