Gardiner, New York, United States
The Gardiner area has a lot of local fun things to do depending on what you’re looking for.
The house is only 30mins away from Legoland, the Ice Caves, and waterfall at Sam’s point.
When it comes to eating: one of the favorite restaurants around Gardiner is a German Restaurant, named Mountain Brauhaus. You may want to call first to make a reservation as they can be busy. (8 Mins from house)
For local food a few hyper local eateries, with farm fresh foo:. Café Mio is one of those places. Best visited on weekdays or early to avoid lines, Café mio offers local farm fresh delicacies that are sourced from local farms. (3 minutes from House)
The Julians in Gardiner (also 3 mins) is another local eatery offering delicious spread.
The Bakery, in New Paltz, which has especially tasty treats, but is a little farther from the house. (10 mins) If you don’t mind driving a few more minutes, I highly recommend the Bakery. One of the most delicious options for breakfast food. May cost an extra dollar or two but the food is fantastic.
If and when you make your way to New Paltz, about a ten minute ride, you can discover many other hyper local food places. The “Mexican Kitchen” in New Paltz is my favorite place to get good quality Mexican food. The fish tacos are always amazing.
When in New Paltz, take a drive up and down Main street. Tons of other food options, from Pho, to Chinese, to Bakeries, to whatever you are interested in.
If you have a sweet tooth like me, you won’t want to miss out on Krause’s Chocolates. A world famous Chocolate company, all their chocolate is homemade and delicious. Even friends who tell me they don’t like chocolate have found something there they love. Trust me here.
There are also Wrights Farm which is 2 minutes from my house which has farm fresh food right there ready to enjoy or cook at home. Check it out.
Activities in and around the area are abundant.
If you’re an outdoorsy type, there are dozens of world class hiking trails. From Minnewaska, to Peterskill, to the mountain house trail system have endless beautiful hikes, including beautiful scenery, amazing waterfalls, cliffs, mountains, and anything you could want from the outdoors. You can get lost in the beautiful scenery, and amazing views. Do a little research as they all are slightly different.
If you’ve never been to the area, you should definitely check out the Shawangunk Mountains, also called “The Gunks”. When you leave my house, you will get a great view on Rt 208, or if you head toward the German restaurant, or the Hiking Trails. You can walk along the gunks, or just view them from afar.
Other things to do:
There is an amazing Yoga Studio nearby, called Stone Wave Yoga, is well reviewed and fun.
If you are outdoorsy, there is a climbing Gym in New Paltz, if it’s too cold to climb out at the Gunks.
There are golf courses nearby. Including Apple Greens golf course, my favorite.
If you are a wine lover, there are Wineries around to get a tour. While this isn’t my forte, I know that White Cliff has a lovely view.
If Hard Apple Cider is more your thing, get a free tour of the Angry Orchard hard cider facility, just 20 minutes away.
Antique shops and local cafes – on main street in New Paltz.
Lastly, if you’re more of a historic buff, you could check out Kingston, NY. About a 25 minute drive from my house, Kingston is the original Capital of New York, before they moved the capital to Albany. Kingston is a cute town with a ton of historic charm and can be a fun little self guided tour if you’re interested.
And Hugonaut street – supposedly the oldest Street in America, lies in the middle of New Paltz.
Home is only 30mins away from Legoland, the Ice Caves, and waterfall at Sam’s point.
I hope this has given you a few things to consider taking advantage of while in Gardiner. This area is full of all the things I love to do. I know there are other things as well if you have something you specifically love to do.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
