Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania, United States

Welcome to Historic Mt. Gretna Campmeeting!

In 1892, during the camp meeting movement, the United Brethren Church established the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting on pristine, forested land originally leased to them by local iron magnate Robert Coleman. As with other camp meetings, people would travel to the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting to take part in outdoor programs of worship. Lots in the Campmeeting were laid out to accommodate tents where attendees would stay during the Bible Conference season. Tents were eventually replaced with permanent structures built on the tent lots; those are the cottages that remain today.

Since 1899, summer services have continued, with a Bible Festival Committee carrying on the tradition each year with a mix of worship services, musical programs and lectures held in the Campmeeting Tabernacle. This open-air structure, with its conical roof supported by 23 chestnut posts, provides unobstructed views to the main platform.

In 2012, because of its historical significance in religion and architecture, the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, Campmeeting has many year-round residents who enjoy the off-season calm as much as the return of seasonal cottage owners and visitors. Local events and attractions keep everyone busy, and summer guests and residents often participate in the Bible Festival, Heritage Festival and other summer music programs. Many guests come for a respite from the heat and city life. Others come to stay in a historic cottage under the lush canopy of trees. They also come to hike or ride on the many trails that surround the Campmeeting, or for theater, music, and arts programs. All appreciate the social nature of our porches. Many friendships begin on these porches and are renewed here each summer!

Quiet Hours and other Campmeeting rules were put in place to help preserve the essence of Campmeeting and our motto: Tranquil, Spiritual, Cultural. Honoring our rules and respecting both our community and its residents makes renting cottages and maintaining good relationships within our community possible.

We welcome you and invite you to enjoy the nature and beauty surrounding Campmeeting!
