The Fiennes Suite is named in the spirit of travel and adventure. It is in a separate corner of Tarastone Retreat Centre, where you can relax and unwind in complete privacy. You'll love the large double bedroom with vaulted ceiling and beams, and its sumptuous, superking bed.

Thick, stone walls and thermal curtains keep the early morning light out.
Adjoining is your own hospitality area - with silent fridge, teas, coffees etc. And, naturally, a fabulous private bathroom.

The space
To stay at the Fiennes Suite is to have a personal, retreat experience at Tarastone as you will be the only overnight guests at the retreat centre. The accommodation itself evokes a stylish hotel suite, with all the comforts you expect and possibly a few more. The spirit of travel and adventure is illustrated in many, unusual details.

We pride ourselves on giving guests a warm welcome then....space.

There is a delicious hot and cold continental breakfast that you may have in your suite or "grab and go".

The Suite is set apart, down its own vaulted landing and corridor, which add to the spacious feeling. We've made those areas playful and decorative, featuring paintings, ceramics and extraordinary Canovas wallpapers of Mongolian yurt camps, along with two Harry Potter library doors. It's brilliant, fun, quirky and completely unique. The bedroom itself is, of course, restful. The bathroom, ultra-modern and fabulous.

In the large bathroom, you'll find a beautifully tiled walk-in rain shower with excellent pressure. The basin is hewn from stone and set on a stylishly upcycled sewing machine table. The flooring and walls are covered in a natural material that makes it warm underfoot as well as gorgeous.

In the hospitality area there is a small, silent fridge, along with teas, coffees, a kettle and a few little treats. There is also a small seating area here.

Tarastone is renowned for its gorgeous rural views, peaceful ambience, Bohemian, relaxed feel and warm welcome. It is a magical resting place full of art from around the world. A beautiful, Buddhist meditation room sits at its heart. There is also a library, extensive gardens and grounds. Even a charming vintage caravan to visit, complete with art materials, Just a stroll away is a superb local pub owned by James May of Top Gear.

You will be in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so there are beautiful walks or cycle routes from the door. The local gastropubs are exceptional and are worth booking ahead. There are several within a few minutes.

There is also a separate, spacious 2-bedroom cottage that sleeps 6, (with over 100 5-star reviews) to let which combines well with the Fiennes Suite for larger groups.

Outside, there is a pet sheep for you to meet if you wish - she's very sociable. In the building we have a medium-sized dog, Stan, whose picture is included in the photos. He loves visitors of all ages. If you prefer not to interact with Stan, we have installed a small gate on the landing to keep him from visiting the Fiennes Suite.

If you would like to partake in meditation, please discuss with us ahead of your arrival and we would be delighted to make that happen if we can.

There is so much to do in the local area - from Stonehenge, Jurassic Coast, Bath, Salisbury, Stourhead, Longleat, the south coast beaches, 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, two major art centres all within about an hour.

Staying at Tarastone is an uplifting and restorative experience. It combines high levels of comfort with deep levels of meaning and a twist of playfulness.

Guest access
Guests may relax in the double- height, vaulted hall and take in the breathtaking view.

Guests are welcome in the library and or meditation room when not in use by the retreat centre staff or students.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden.

During your stay
We tend to be doing our own thing but will be about some of the time if you need anything at all.

Other things to note
We sometimes have Buddhist practices going in in the meditation room. These occasionally involve instruments.

Hello from a happy buddhist, though not a very austere one. My work includes running a retreat centre with a focus on meditation. Other interests include art, sharing good food with friends and keeping an international perspective. when I travel, it is often to a retreat. I'm calm, interested and easy to be with.
