This wonderful villa is up in the mountain at the foot of a nature reserve. It is big and spacious. Enjoy taking the sun, getting refreshed, relaxing by the garden, terrace or balcony having a glass of wine with others or privately.
The villa has very peaceful and spacious living area and fairly cool in the hot spanish summer months. There are some wonderful views of the nature and mountains around. It has an open, inner, balcony into the hallway and quite a big kitchen and communal areas including a nice relaxing chill out area beside the swimming pool. There are about six or seven bedrooms and this is the advert for the bigger bedrooms (with overflow to other smaller bedrooms) that have big bathrooms and with very impressive views from the balcony where you can also sit out in your private terrace with table and chairs and enjoy the view. Apart from myself, it is very likely that there will be more people coming and going from the house including friends and family that come to visit me once in a while. This means that you will have your private bedroom and bathroom (unless told otherwise) but you will share communal areas like the kitchen, sitting room, terraces, garden, barbecue, pool etc. There is private swimming pool in the summer months from around April till around October on top of a big communal pool that is at a two minute walk from the house which has a restaurant and nice spanish food at very decent prices (free on weekdays and about three euros on weekends and open from around June to September). There is free wifi access in the house.
The building is quite cold in winter due to its size, marble floors and location up the mountain (small radiators in bedrooms and log fire in the sitting room to help get a bit of warmth in the colder winter months).
Wonderful nature walks and hikes very close by on the impressive mountains of Mijas. There are different activities in the area, apart from the usual tourist attractions, like hiking, climbing, downhill biking, scenic routes, water sports etc you could join me in doing some painting and drawing in the studio in the house or come surfing if there are waves :-)
Guests have access to all the grounds including the swimming pool, garden, kitchen, sitting room, terrace, barbecue, chill out space, sun beds. Guests will not have access to occupied private bedrooms where other guests are staying.
Interaction with Guests
I like people and I tend to interact with guests depending on how much they like to interact with me. I like to think that I know when people want to be left alone and leave them alone.
The beautiful villa, with fascinating views, is at a 20 min walk from the centre of Mijas Pueblo, a quaint typical spanish town with cobbled streets and known for its stunning views and donkey rides. Mijas has thousands of Tourists visiting it every year from Japan, Europe and The villa looks over a small neighbourhood. There is a small supermarket there that you can walk to in 5 min and also a small restaurant 3 min away from the house. There is also a small park for kids three minutes away from the house and a big communal pool at a stones throw away from the house.
Mijas Pueblo is a great little classic Spanish town. It has amazing views and cobbled streets, parks, gardens, white houses, old chapels, friendly people, a big parking for 1€ a day, donkey rides...
If you have a car the whole Costa del Sol is within easy reach but there are also buses at the doorstep to the house that will take you to the centre of Mijas Pueblo, (if you do not want to walk on the slightly hilly but beautiful scenery for 20 min), Torremolinos and Malaga (the city where you will find a lot of history and places of interest such as the Picasso museum, old castle and cathedrals). The bus will also connect you to the Costa Del Sol train network which goes along the coastal towns from Fuengirola to Malaga. You can get around on buses, walking, on private car, bicycle etc. The house is at a 15-20 min walk from the town of Mijas Pueblo and it is a bit hilly. It takes 15 min to walk from the house to the nearest bus stop that goes to Fuengirola (a coastal, touristic city where you will find nice beaches, a busy nightlife, a bus station with buses going to towns and places of interest like Granada, Ronda, Marbella, La Linea which has Gibraltar at walking distance and Algeciras (a ferry port to Morroco) etc and big supermarkets). You just have to be aware of the bus and train times but on average they leave every 20-30min. Buses can have one hour intervals if they are early in the morning or the last ones in the night. You should also find out when the last buses but there are always taxis around.
You can get a train directly from Malaga airport that will take you to Torremolinos or Benalmadena/Arroyo De La Miel or Fuengirola. You can get a bus from these towns to directly outside the house but if you get the bus up to Mijas Pueblo from Fuengirola you have to walk for about 15 min to the house.
If I am available we can arrange pick ups from the airport and nearby areas in exchange of an arranged donation or for free if you are very close by like in Mijas town. From Fuengirola you can also get buses to Marbella, Ronda, Granada, La linea (walking distance to Gibralatar) and all the other beautiful towns and cities in the area. You can also get a bus to Algeciras where you can take a ferry to Morocco.
Other Things to Note
The place is ideal for people that love nature, walking in the mountains, relaxing, sharing with other people etc. There are also a few chickens and I would like to offer you some natural fresh eggs if there are any extra ones and maybe a herbal infusion from some home grown herbs like spearmint and time :-)
Smoking is only allowed outside of the house.
Ask before you bring somebody else into the grounds.
Try leaving the place better than you found it.
Be truthful and transparent.
Do not make fires in the garden.
Do not use up unnecessary electricity and water.
Do not use metal utensils on non-stick frying pans.
Do not put hot pans on kitchen surfaces as they are plastic and will spoil.
As soon as you wash wine glasses they should be dried and put in their shelf with the other glasses and not left to dry in the washing rack where it is very likely that they will break.
Staying at Andrew's place was an exceptional experience for us, definetely a highlight in our trip, one that we will cherish for a long time!
The house is located in a beautiful rural area, with breathtaking view on mountains, quiet and peaceful, but 10 min drive to the beach and to Mijas.
The house is big and guests can enjoy full privacy on the one hand, but benefit from the company of other guests in the shared kitchen or the garden. There was a very interesting multicultural gathering during our stay and we had great conversations over a glass of wine at night and shared breakfast in the morning.
Andrew is a very special and intersting person, a pleasure to talk to, and amazing as a host: thoughtful, caring, helpful, fair and constantly striving to improve every little detail in the house.
Hoping to come back soon and enjoy once again the special atmosphere of this house!
Andrew is a great host. We loved the room and the house. It is located on a beautiful spot. All in all, very nice.
Peaceful house, relaxed atmosphere and outstanding host. Beautiful walk into Mijas (about 1 km)
Andrew has a beautiful home with a relaxed atmosphere. He honors each guest with his great spirit and easy going manner. The home is located on the east side of Mijas, a short, and beautiful, 15 minutes walk to the center of town. I believe Mijas is one of the most picturesque and friendly towns in all of the Costa del Sol. Its central location is also perfect for day trips to Marbella, Malaga, Rhonda and Nerja. If you are looking for a clean and friendly place with beautiful views of both the mountains and sea, and to “feel at home," you will love it here. The kitchen is large and shared by guests which often led to people sharing meals (and wine) and great conversation. I stayed for 4 days, left and came back unexpectedly for another 9 days because I truly love and missed Mijas, the house, Andrew, and the chickens. (Yes, he has chickens!) While I was here, there were single people, couples, families with children and people of all age groups, yet everyone seemed equally comfortable and relaxed in this house. The bedrooms are spacious and most have private bathrooms. I would highly recommend this home, with the best of both the mountains and sea, for all travelers, young and old.
We were group of 12 friends from Finland spending one week in July 2014 in Los Gringos, Mijas, and we had truly amazing holiday! First of all, Andrew was a great host. :) Since the very first email the communication worked very well, we received prompt and kind replies to all our emails and questions. Andrew was also very flexible and stayed awake when we arrived in the middle of the night. He also arranged all the rooms so that the couples had double beds and also managed to prepare one extra bedroom in the middle of the week for one friend joining spontaneously later. Andrew took care of our towels (extra towels for the beach), and bed sheets etc, and we had own fridge and closet for our foods and drinks. He also gave us many good recommendations for the activities and day trips, e.g. swimming and jumping in the river in Benahavis (approx 45min with car from the villa) was a superb experience!
The villa itself is very nicely located in the mountains, close to Mijas (20min from the Malaga airport with car) and Fuengirola beaches. We rented cars from Malaga airport and did day trips, e.g. to Malaga, Gibraltar, Ronda, hiking and playing golf. There are many activities around but it is also very convenient and relaxing to spend a day via the pool in the villa. We spent many evenings in the villa and prepared dinners in the kitchen and BBQ - the dining table is great for 12 people and is nicely set outside.
All in all we enjoyed our stay a lot and would definitely recommend this to everyone! :) Greetings to Andrew, you were amazing host!

Hello, my name is Andrew, I have been living in this beautiful town of Mijas for about twelve years. I like this part of the world because the weather is fantastic and you can meet people from many different countries. You can be one day in the mountains skiing and on the same day on the beach sunbathing.
I work two days a week in an international school teaching art. Apart from that I do different art works, some translating and take care of this wonderful place where I live.
I am quite a relaxed person and I enjoy sports like surfing and snowboarding.
I like meeting new people and sharing this beautiful house and surroundings with them.
