Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
A real log cabin retreat awaits, nestled beside 5 acres of lovely forest, 10 min drive from Nehalem Bay/beaches, minutes from the river. Rustic & cozy, with modern amenities for a comfortable, relaxing stay. Enjoy a soak in our ‘Cadillac’ spa + all the bells & whistles! Forty jets! Create a feast in the fully-stocked kitchen; watch flames dance in the wood stove. Wander forest paths; star gaze on the deck. Great for a small family, a friend group, perfect for two or just you! Birder's paradise!

The space
Get away from it all . . . with every comfort of home! Our completely renovated beautiful log Cabin, beside five forested acres, has everything you need for the ideal Oregon Coastal vacation: complete modern kitchen; comfortable beds; a wonderful glass-front wood stove; a great library you're welcome to enjoy; shady hammock to swing on; amazing hot tub to relax in under the stars. And located just a few miles down the road from all the hiking, fishing, boating & beach-combing opportunities you could imagine!

Our Cabin is built in a traditional log house style without nails: remember 'Lincoln Logs' when you were a kid? This house is rock solid, yet reminds us of the playhouses of our childhood dreams.

Our high-efficiency heat pump provides ideal, environmentally friendly heating & cooling for the entire Cabin, so the Cabin interior is always a constant, comfortable temperature. And if you wish to enjoy the ambiance of watching the flames dance, make yourself a nice little fire in the air-tight woodstove fireplace (no longer the primary heat source for the Cabin!).

The Forest Log Cabin has a mostly open floor plan that can accommodate up to four people comfortably, as long as you are a close-knit group! (one king bed; one queen bed; some single beds). The queen bed is in a separate bedroom; separated by a curtain (not a solid door). The other beds are located in our upstairs family-style room, a completely open space (no doors, no separations between sleeping areas). In the warmer months, there's room on the property to pitch a tent for camping if some folks in your group prefer a little more privacy & the great outdoors!

About that hot tub . . . it's a real 'Cadillac' of a spa! All the bells & whistles: forty jets; a rainbow of color light choices; a waterfall & rope jets, kept in pristine condition for our guests. Enjoy!

PLEASE NOTE:
-- In the past, we have accommodated slightly larger groups, on a case-by-case basis. There would be an additional surcharge for each additional guest after four guests.
-- There is only ONE bathroom for everyone to share!

A group of friends, or a couple of couples might find it perfect: one separate bedroom, plus the upstairs sleeping area/family room gives everyone plenty of space. Smaller families enjoy the Cabin a lot: parents often stay downstairs & let the kids find their own special places upstairs (children's books, some fun art supplies, blocks & a bin full of 'Lincoln Logs'!).

You might want the Forest Log Cabin all to yourself, or perhaps a celebratory stay for your partner & you. We love it when the place fills up with happy voices, but the quiet here is magical.

The Cabin also includes: Wifi, TV with DVD player, a VHS player & an HDMI input for Chromecast type devices, CD player & radio.

Retreat into the woods . . . this place feels like a world away! Everything the nature lover loves: the quiet peace of the forest beside you, the ocean/river/bay just a short drive away if you want to go exploring or need a change of environment. A grocery store & good local winery are minutes down the road. Bring your own, or rent a kayak or drift boat to paddle the Nehalem River. Maybe book a fishing tour on the bay. Ever hike around the spectacular coastal State Parks? You'll find many miles of incredible trails & views that take your breath away! Enjoy all that this exquisite area has to offer!

Special note to bird enthusiasts: Our little acreage provides critical habitat to numerous species you may not see in other areas! Bring your binoculars, check out our bird identification books, take some time to sit quietly in the woods & listen to the birdsong . . .

Please note: Our prices are slightly higher per night on weekends– Fridays & Saturdays– & major holidays.

Guest access
The Forest Log Cabin is our favorite place to escape the city & we want to share the magic. Guests have the Cabin all to themselves. While you're enjoying your time there, we'll wait our turn in our city digs.

We request that you please be a good neighbor to our neighbors, be respectful, quiet down in the evenings, & drive VERY slowly & carefully on our shared, one way, graveled road (dusty in the summer months).

Other things to note
PLEASE be sure you read our ENTIRE listing description before requesting a reservation. Any questions? Just make an inquiry first & we'll be happy to answer your questions as best we can!

The FOREST LOG CABIN is in the WOODS, FOLKS!
Please note that critters live in the woods, too. We do our best to make sure that all forest creatures happily live their lives OUTSIDE of the Cabin. But try as we may, occasionally a random bird or bee or even a bat might find an open window; a spider or two might enjoy weaving a web between logs; a field mouse might scamper inside when people leave doors open. The woods don't always stay outside. The Cabin is as well sealed as possible & kept as immaculately clean as possible, while still being super comfortable for our guests.

We ask that you PLEASE KEEP DOORS/SCREENS SECURELY CLOSED AT ALL TIMES! Critters can quickly swoop or scamper inside if you leave doors or screen doors open, day or night. Close them completely after yourselves, entering or leaving the Cabin. One theory is that-- even in the daytime-- bats chasing a mosquito (thank you, bats!) might think they've followed it into a big dark cave! Ha. Just close the doors & screens before they get the chance. Thanks!

WOOD HEAT at the CABIN.
Our high-efficiency heat pump keeps the Cabin cozy, no matter what the outside weather brings. You're also welcome to light a little fire in the air-tight woodstove fireplace, no longer the primary heat source for the Cabin! The heat pump will automatically self-adjust to circulate the warm air from the stove throughout the Cabin. Please leave the heat pump ON. Thanks!

The woodstove has a glass front so you can enjoy watching the fire. We provide firewood, kindling & tools for your use. We would prefer that you have some experience using woodstoves to ensure your safety & the safety of the Cabin. We provide detailed instructions for the stove in our House Manual, & are always available to answer any questions by phone, email or text. However, if you have absolutely no experience using a woodstove, we ask that you please just enjoy the ambient cozy temperature provided by our heat pump heating system (there's a remote on the wall to adjust the Cabin temperature/fan speed to your preference).

And as tempting as it may be, please never ever ever ever use the wood stove for roasting marshmallows. Save s'mores for a driftwood fire at the beach! Thanks!

LATE SUMMER & EARLY FALL WILDFIRE SEASON.
We request that you do NOT use the wood stove when wildfire danger is highest. The Cabin & the forest thanks you!

GARBAGE & RECYCLING at the CABIN.
Garbage service is ONLY available every other Wednesday at 6am. The bin is located behind the wood shed near the road. We ask our guests to PLEASE put their securely tied garbage bag in the bin before you check out, but ESPECIALLY on Tuesday night if you’re staying during that time! Please make sure your securely tied garbage bag is in the bin & that the lid is snapped closed. Place a piece of firewood on top to prevent critter intrusion! Thank you!
A recycling bin is just outside the Cabin for your use-- every little bit helps the planet!

GUEST CHECK-OUT CHECK LIST.
We ask that guests please attend to a few 'check out' tasks to make things easier for the next guests. There's a 'Check-Out Check List for Guests' posted on the fridge, & in our House Manual-- available online + a hard copy at the Cabin. So that potential guests know what to expect ahead of time, we ask our guests to please:
– Load the dishwasher with your used dishes (except sharp knives, pots & pans) & start it up.
– Strip beds you've used & place sheets/pillow cases in a pile on the floor beside the washer. NO need to remake beds.
– PLEASE start a wash of bath towels, hand towels & washcloths you have used. We ask that you use a WARM wash with an EXTRA RINSE + add either about 1/4 cup of vinegar OR a small scoop of baking soda to the detergent (all supplies on shelf over the washer).
– If you've used the wood stove, please refill the wood crib for the next guests. The last guests filled it for you! There's a wheelbarrow in the woodshed to make this task quick & easy!
– Please make sure all doors & windows are closed & locked.
-- Make sure the hot tub cover is securely strapped & locked.
-- Put your garbage into the bin outside the wood shed & make sure the bin lid is securely snapped closed!
– Don't forget to replace the keys in the lock box & on the key rack!
We thank you, our next guests thank you & our housekeepers are eternally grateful!
-- CHECK OUT is NOON on your scheduled departure date.

RATES.
– Our nightly rates for weekends (Fridays & Saturdays), & holidays, are slightly higher than our weekday rates (Sundays through Thursdays).
– We have an additional per person/per night fee of $35 for more than four guests. More than four guests is determined on a case-by-case basis by the owner.

A Note About DUST.
We dust the Cabin. A LOT. If you've ever lived with a woodstove, you'll find that the inside of your house has more dust than usual, mostly from wood ash in the air. In winter, when the stove is used excessively for several days at a time, dust prevails. And in summer, dust wins, too, as the Cabin is located along a dirt/gravel road. We'll keep dusting, sweeping, scrubbing, polishing & washing because we love a very clean Cabin. Fortunately, our heat pump has an air filter that helps keep the Cabin cleaner than ever. We ask that you please be aware of the rural nature of the Cabin's location, especially if you have dust allergies!

Neighborhood highlights

The Cabin is a retreat into the woods & really does feel like a world away.

Our neighbors keep an eye on the Cabin for us when we're not around. The little gravel drive up to the Cabin is private & secluded, but the river is just a short drive away, & the little beach town of Manzanita is a 6.9 mile drive from the Cabin.

That's me making blackberry jam after berry-picking near the cabin, a summertime treat we look forward to all year. My family has owned the cabin for more than 30 years. In 2000, we spent months completing upgrades we had wanted to do for years: sanded the interior logs down to bare wood, and stained and coated them with a final protective coat (jobs no sane human should ever attempt!); ripped out (literally) the bathroom and built a 'real' shower; replaced the wooden boxes in the kitchen with cabinets that we salvaged from a friend's kitchen remodel; built the pump house/wood shed, etc. But the most dramatic redo was replacing the lower 5 logs on all four sides, to eliminate rot caused by living in an Oregon rain forest. If you can imagine a log cabin suspended in air by tiny, almost invisible floor jacks, that's pretty much what it looked like -- a floating structure, made out of Lincoln logs, with dogs and workmen and kids scrambling around for hours every day. We love the results, and hope you will, too. I wish we could be here to welcome you in person but, instead, suggest you notice the large Spruce tree, off the back deck, at the edge of the woods. It's estimated to be more than 150 years old and we call it the Spirit Tree. It's a living reminder of our role as protectors of this wonderful land -- and embodies our wish that you enjoy an abundance of rest, relaxation and joy while you are here, as our guests.
