Welcome to Gulfport and to our cozy Blue Arbor Guest Cottage. Gulfport is a neighborly little town of 13,000 nestled on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay in the Tampa Bay/central Gulf Coast area of Florida. Blue Arbor is a quiet little spot just around the corner from everything that’s happening in Gulfport. And believe us, a LOT is happening in Gulfport.
Your hosts are Roger Turner and Michael O’Toole, and our guest cottage is an intimate, private, 350-square-foot one-room structure built four years ago specifically as guest quarters for friends and family. Its main room features hardwood floors, oriental rugs, a king size bed, ceiling fan, some of our extensive art collection, and three windows overlooking our large, bountiful yard. You’ll also find a comfortable upholstered chair in the corner for reading/relaxing and a desk/work table under a big window for writing and/or working on your computer (if you must). There is also a roomy closet, full bath with large, walk-in tile shower, and a food area that features a coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave and a small refrigerator. And yes, we have wi-fi and cable TV.
Outside your front door is a private, protected little front porch—a great place to drink your morning coffee, sit and watch the world go by, talk on your phone or even smoke. And you can watch the squirrels, the birds, the lizards and all the other creatures inhabiting a yard that sometimes more resembles a habitat.
Then, when you’re ready, you’ll find Beach Boulevard right around the corner. That would be our four-block-long-plus main street featuring all the shops, restaurants, music venues and watering holes you could ever want. They’re too numerous to mention, but come on down and we’ll tell you our favorites. Then there’s the First Friday Art Walk, the Third Saturday Art Walk, the Tuesday Fresh Market and bazaar, Spring Festival (April), GeckoFest (September) and, well, more—lots more. And, oh yes, our beach.
Okay, if you MUST leave Gulfport, the Gulf beaches are just minutes away, or try St. Petersburg next door: top notch live theater at American Stage and freeFall Theater, or the world famous Salvador Dali Museum, housed in its stunning new building, and old favorite Sunken Gardens, to name just a few. Or cross the bay to Tampa for the Straz Performing Arts Center, or Ybor City, the historic Cuban community that is now club central, or Busch Gardens. And Disney World is just an hour and a half away.
But when you’re finished, be sure to come back to Gulfport and to your cozy accommodations at Blue Arbor. There’s no place like home.
Blue Arbor Guest Cottage is a little piece of paradise tucked away in an exceptional community of wonderful people. The cottage is exactly as it's pictured, quaint, immaculate, simply lovely. Roger and Michael are the perfect hosts, warm, engaging, and anxious to make our stay perfect in every way. The other reviews are absolutely accurate, so rather than echoing what's been said, I'll just add it's a place you come back to again and again.
This was an adorable detached cottage with a beautiful large bedroom/sitting area, granite counter tops in the kitchen area and a bathroom with a huge tiled shower. Nicely decorated. There was also a big closet. The cottage was private and had a cute front porch for sitting with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and enjoying the garden setting. Roger and Michael could not have been nicer and upon arrival we found a lovely bottle of wine, cookies and everything needed for brewed morning coffee. Gulfport is an funky town with lots of shops and eateries. We loved it. It's also convenient to St. Petersburg and Sarasota. My husband and I would stay here again for sure. Thanks Roger and Michael we had a great time!
Blue Arbor Guest Cottage is exactly how it is described by the owners and the positive reviews already posted. It is located a few blocks from Gulfport nightlife or breakfast (a perfect walk) and is centrally located and convenient to the rest of greater St. Pete and Tampa Bay. The cottage is relatively new construction, immaculately clean and well cared for with every possible amenity and thoughtful touches like ground coffee, wine and cookies for your enjoyment. The neighborhood is safe and very quiet. Our hosts couldn't have been more accommodating with helpful tips and ideas and there is a binder in the room with menus and suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. Ask for some history in the immediate area if you are interested in Sears - Roebuck manufactured home kits from the 1930's. There are several great examples within very close walking distance that we found fascinating. You won't be disappointed if you want cleanliness, peacefulness and a central location. We would recommend Blue Arbor to anyone.
I had a wonderful time! It was a nice, safe neighborhood convenient o shops and dining. I parked on the street right in front of the house and had no problems. The space was well kept, clean, modern and nicely designed. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was perfect for my stay while I visited my daughter at Eckerd College which only a 5 minute drive. While check in time was at 3 pm, I arrived early and accommodations were made for me to arrive earlier. Roger and Michael were friendly and gave me a lot of ideas. They has a great booklet set out for places to go and things to do. Highly recommended.
Hosts like Roger and Michael are another reason why airbnb is the place to book your getaways. Booking this cottage (vs a beach hotel) was not only more affordable, but was far more intimate and enjoyable. The cottage was extremely clean, everything was laid out and ready for us (even a bottle of wine), and we were given a helpful layout of how to use the place and they addressed any questions before I could even ask them.
There is a blue guidebook in the room filled with tips and travel advice for the Gulfport visitor, and we used it multiple times to check out local restaurants and interests. The neighborhood was very quiet, and the beach blvd strip just a few blocks away was always buzzing with music and food when we were down there.
What I loved the most is the location, with Gulfport being on the south end of Tampa, you can visit so many great places with minimal (website hidden) Pete, Indian Rocks, Siesta, Holmes, Clearwater and so many other great beaches were all just a short drive away.
Roger and Michael's guest cottage was just perfect for us. We had a wonderful 3 night stay in Gulfport, and loved having a private and cozy place to end each of our days. The cottage is beautiful and spotless, and nestled in a gorgeous garden. It was very convenient to be able to walk a couple of blocks to downtown Gulfport for shopping and restaurants. We hope to come back!
A journalist, a stained glass artist, a licensed massage therapist: I am all these and, at one time or another, have practiced all three professions. I have also lived in 9 or 10 states, the last one being Florida since 1977, but when Michael and I moved to Gulfport 22 years ago, we knew we were home.
