The Space

- with immediate access to the cool waters of the Grand Harbour and the unique historical town of Birgu. The apartment is located in an ancient town, which dates back to times before the Romans. "Birgu" is the original Maltese name, but it was renamed "Vittoriosa" after the great siege of 1565. It now uses both names! This area is unspoilt by high-rise hotels, and has the authentic character of a small Maltese village, but amazing historical resonances. Walk down the same cobbled streets that the famous Knights of Malta rode!

Two single beds: the beautiful wooden sleigh-bed slides out into two singles, so the room can accommodate three people. The other bed is a foldable zed-bed. There is an en suite shower room. (No bathtub in the en suite: the only bathtub is in the shared bathroom - see separate listing for the other rooms in the flat.) Vintage wardrobe. Writing table and chair. Room is cool but light, with south-facing window opening onto courtyard.

The living-room of the apartment opens out to a balcony, immediately overlooking the water's edge on Kalkara Creek. This breathtaking view overlooks the Grand Harbour and the World Heritage city of Valletta. It is safe to swim in the Creek, and very refreshing on hot days. You will be sharing the open-plan kitchen and living room with both the host and the other guest room in the flat. The kitchen has a washing machine, cooker, fridge, and the living room has a television, DVD player, and super comfortable sofas and easy chairs. How better to relax after a long day of exploring the island of Malta, which is packed with range of interesting places that surprises everyone!

- free WiFi internet
- bed linen and towels
- leaflets about local attractions
- baby's cot available (one per the flat)

15 minutes by car from the airport
Reliable and friendly local taxi firm
Bus stop 10 minutes brisk walk from the apartment
(The buses go everywhere on the island.)
Recommended local car rental
Parking space for one car per the flat
8 minutes walk to the water taxis
(Water taxis are the fastest and most exciting way to get to Valletta, across the Grand Harbour.)

The apartment neighbours the delightful Vittoriosa Marina (4 minutes walk), which has an array of restaurants. It is 10 minutes walk to the intriguing historic Collachio, where the Knights of Malta lived. You will be10 minutes brisk walk to bus stop, and then 20 minutes bus journey to the genuinely unique World Heritage City of Valletta. At this location in Birgu you are surrounded by a staggering array of historical buildings and places going back to British colonial period, the Kinghts of Malta, and even to the Neolithic. You could easily spend a full week exploring the history of Malta without even stopping to enjoy the sunshine, sea, boating, diving, and dining. Southern Malta is largely unspoilt by modern developments and hotels. The town of Birgu has been sensitively restored with guidance from enlightened local authorities, and is a great pleasure to wander around in a relaxed manner, enjoying the warm breeze, soaking up the historic ambience, and dipping into family-run bars and cafes to indulge in local food and drinks.

The apartment is licensed and regulated by the Maltese Tourist Authority. The MTA inspects properties that are rented to holidaymakers and demands high standards to be maintained. When choosing your holiday in Malta, always check that your accommodation is licensed by the MTA, to make sure you get the highest standards.

Deborah is happy to arrange a taxi with a local company from the airport should you wish. This is advised for flights arriving after 10 pm in the evening. Or, in the daytime, you can take bus X7 from the airport. The local taxi (Mifsud Garage is based in the square) will deliver you to the Security office in the underground car park. NB Ask the taxi driver to drop you "on the Kalkara side". Or ... Airport X7 Bus leaves I believe at around 15 minutes to the hour from outside the Departures section, at Luqa airport to Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa). This takes approximately 45 minutes. Get off at the Riche Cafe in Birgu and walk to the flat.

Guest Access

You have access to the whole apartment. I wish you to be as comfortable as can be. You are most welcome to prepare food and to cook, providing the usual etiquette of clearing up is observed. The only request I make is that if you do choose to use the washing machine you honour the cost of 10 euro per wash. Smoking is allowed on the balcony.
