Camino Verde B&B is a "Bed and Breakfast" style lodging opened in 2009 and located on the edge of Santa Elena. The B&B is laid out in the style of a family house and guests are encouraged to treat it as their home. The building was in fact once the owner\'s family home which gave inspiration to this "'Tica House" designed hotel.
The B&B is situated a 5 minute walk from the town centre of Santa Elena, but is far enough away for it to be quiet and have more rural surroundings. This is the perfect option for those who crave the quiet side of the countryside but who require the amenities provided in a town.
Camino Verde B&B comprises private rooms which sleep 2 to 4 guests. Four of the rooms have shared bathroom facilities and the rest are en suite. For the rooms with private bathroom the prices are $25 for one person, $35 for a double, triple $45 and quadruple $55. Rooms with shared bathroom costs $15 for a single and $20 for a double. All prices include breakfast and tax.
There is a kitchen and a communal area here which B&B guests are welcome to use. Here there is a computer with internet connection, plus Wifi is available for guests with routers in the communal areas of both the B&B and Tina\'s Casitas.
Breakfast is free for all guests and is served from 6am until 9am. However the staff are very flexible and an earlier breakfast or packed-breakfast can be arranged if you have an early morning tour, just give them prior warning the evening before. There are three options for breakfast: the first is the typical Tico dish of eggs, rice and beans and toast; the second is fried or scrambled eggs with toast; the third is a fruit platter served with toast. Real coffee and orange juice is also available for every guest.
Check-out time is 10am but guests are welcome to use the communal areas all day if they have a late bus to catch. Camino Verde also offers a luggage storage service.
The friendly staff on reception are also experienced tour agents so can give out impartial advice on all the local companies. Furthermore they can share their countrywide knowledge of Costa Rica and organise any ongoing travel. Upon arrival at the hotel they give all guests a map of Monteverde and mark out all the different tours and activities that various companies offer in the area. This way guests learn about what is available to them and can suss out how long they might like to stay for. If required they can create "pick and mix" packages of various activities to suit each individual.
Please let us know if you need any help on getting to Monteverde! We can help you arrange a Shuttle or a Taxi Boat Taxi if your coming from Arenal, For example, the taxi boat taxi is $25 a person and Shuttle from San Jose to Monteverde is $39 p.p
Also, Just to let you know, there are a lot of fun things to to here, and since we have an Info-Center we can help you arrange anything with great discounts! Prices you will find online will be higher, and availability wont be a problem, so there`s no need to book tours in advance.
Let us know if you have any questions about the B&B or on things to do!

Camino Verde was fantastic for our three day stay. Jose was incredibly helpful in providing information upon check-in--from a map of the area, quick summaries of restaurants in the area, to all the available tours and activities. We easily booked activities with him and the shuttles for all the activities picked us up directly from the lobby. The breakfasts and all day coffee were a nice touch, especially with early morning activities at 7:15. It's a convenient location and just far enough from the bustle of center of town, but still within a 5-10 minute walk if you need food or anything. There are also great sodas just next door. We really appreciated Jose's friendly and helpful manner--it really set the place apart from the usual hotels. The room itself was clean and what we needed for our stay. Wi-Fi always worked. Great location, price, and wonderful staff.
We booked this place bc it looked so nice and private at the pictures. When we arrived the check in was kind of weird and we were told we shall move or car around the corner where we could park next to our room. We were put into a different hotel/hostel named Atardecer, which ee did not book. So there we like 15 rooms mostly full with american school kids on a field trip. Not what we expected, so we're not happy and can't recommend this place. Will not stay there again. There were ants all over the bathroom and sink.
Camino Verde was nearly perfect for us---Hosts Jose, Andres, and Jose and staff can't be beat for helpfulness, courtesy, and friendliness. Breakfasts were awesome. Easy walk to town and restaurants. Great pick-up site for tours and interbus. Recommended!

Our four days and three nights at Camino Verde were excellent. Andres and his family are kind and enthusiastic about ensuring their guests have a wonderful stay. The room was comfortable and cleaned daily. The water in the shower was hotter than anywhere else I stayed in Costa Rica, and the WiFi worked perfectly no matter where we were in the lodging (bedroom, common areas, cafeteria). Breakfast is very good, and there are five different options for guests with varying dietary needs and preferences. (Andres gave us recommendations on where to find vegetarian food in Santa Elena, and they were great as well.) We also enjoyed the company of the other guests at Camino Verde, who represented a wide range in age and nationality.
The location of Camino Verde is perfect. It's just a 5 minute walk from the center of Santa Elena -- I know because I timed it -- so you don't get the noise and dust from the traffic, but you're close to everything you need: restaurants, grocery store, shops, bus stops, etc.
I highly recommend that you book all tours and shuttles through Camino Verde -- which pick up and drop off at its front door. They offer competitive pricing, are accommodating and flexible, don't make you feel pressured, and are quick to react if something is amiss. For example, when one tour bus forgot to pick us up, we were in a taxi to our destination within five minutes -- at no charge.
The one complaint I have about Camino Verde is that the walls of the rooms are quite thin, and you can hear everything that's happening in the adjoining rooms. But honestly, this is not a good reason not to stay there, and I'd return any day.
In short, Camino Verde is an excellent model of what the tourist industry should look like -- anywhere in the world!
Andres and the whole crew was awesome. We would love to stay there anytime again. Very friendly and helpful.
Andres and Jose created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and were helpful with all our questions about visiting Monteverde. The room was comfortable. The breakfast was great! The Wi-Fi works really well. There is a large common area for relaxing, reading, and meeting other guests. It is safe without feeling in any way uptight. Camino Verde is located in the town of Santa Elena, walking distance from the bus station and the many restaurants in Santa Elena. It is a cab ride of about 5 KM to reach the cloud forest reserves.
Andres & Jose did well to accommodate us during a delay in our transportation. They quickly responded to our problem and solved it for us. They were both there to assist us during our super late check in and made us feel instantly welcome. The bnb is located just a few minutes walk outside Monteverde which gives it the best of both worlds. The rooms and the breakfast both met our expectations. Jose worked with our very tight schedule in Monteverde and set us up with quite a few tours to do. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend staying here.
Jose has got to be the calmest person in the tourist industry. He was so relaxed and attentive. He immediately put me at ease. Having said that, the B&B was not quite as nice as I had hoped. My shower had no hot water. But it was fixed as soon as I reported it. My room had a window into the hallway with a gauzy curtain. The room did not have a light by the bed. The breakfast was ok, but nothing like what I read (or remembered reading) from previous posts. Overall, it felt like a comfortable hostel where you would not spend a lot of time hanging out during the day. And granted, most folks don't hang out there because they are off on nature tours. The small town is really touristy with a few ok restaurants. The next nearest bunch of higher-end restaurants are too far to walk. I just didn't expect it to be so much like a backpacker's hostel, which I could've booked on another site. I envied other folks I met who stayed in the next town over and had fabulous food and views. But they stayed at a pricier hotel. I was hoping for a more friendly, local environment.
Our stay here was one of the best experiences in Costa Rica. The rooms were private and cozy. Jose was very helpful and recommended trips we could book to our schedule. The breakfast was delicious and the soda next door to them is a great place for lunch. Overall good experience.
Good location great hosts great breakfast, makes me want to live there.
