Camino Verde B&B is a "Bed and Breakfast" style lodging opened in 2009 and located on the edge of Santa Elena. The B&B is laid out in the style of a family house and guests are encouraged to treat it as their home. The building was in fact once the owner\'s family home which gave inspiration to this "'Tica House" designed hotel.
The B&B is situated a 5 minute walk from the town centre of Santa Elena, but is far enough away for it to be quiet and have more rural surroundings. This is the perfect option for those who crave the quiet side of the countryside but who require the amenities provided in a town.
Camino Verde B&B comprises private rooms which sleep 2 to 4 guests. Four of the rooms have shared bathroom facilities and the rest are en suite. For the rooms with private bathroom the prices are $25 for one person, $35 for a double, triple $45 and quadruple $55. Rooms with shared bathroom costs $15 for a single and $20 for a double. All prices include breakfast and tax.
There is a kitchen and a communal area here which B&B guests are welcome to use. Here there is a computer with internet connection, plus Wifi is available for guests with routers in the communal areas of both the B&B and Tina\'s Casitas.
Breakfast is free for all guests and is served from 6am until 9am. However the staff are very flexible and an earlier breakfast or packed-breakfast can be arranged if you have an early morning tour, just give them prior warning the evening before. There are three options for breakfast: the first is the typical Tico dish of eggs, rice and beans and toast; the second is fried or scrambled eggs with toast; the third is a fruit platter served with toast. Real coffee and orange juice is also available for every guest.
Check-out time is 10am but guests are welcome to use the communal areas all day if they have a late bus to catch. Camino Verde also offers a luggage storage service.
The friendly staff on reception are also experienced tour agents so can give out impartial advice on all the local companies. Furthermore they can share their countrywide knowledge of Costa Rica and organise any ongoing travel. Upon arrival at the hotel they give all guests a map of Monteverde and mark out all the different tours and activities that various companies offer in the area. This way guests learn about what is available to them and can suss out how long they might like to stay for. If required they can create "pick and mix" packages of various activities to suit each individual.

By far this was our favorite place to have stayed in Costa Rica! It is less than a 10 minute walk to get to the downtown area and there is an amazing Soda right next door to the bed and breakfast. We spoke mainly with Ever, who was so helpful in showing us a map of Santa Elena and helping us book the taxi boat taxi to Fortuna as well as a guided tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest. The room was small but we didn't need much since we were out exploring all day. The free breakfast is also fantastic!
I think a lot of reviews have mentioned this, but the staff here is awesome. We ended up staying across the street from Camino Verde in a room in a hotel I'm guessing is overflow, or may be an extension of the B&B. There was a large kitchen and breakfast room and a little sitting room on the second floor facing west. It was very nice and very lush, as it had flowers and plants all over the back courtyard. There was also Off-Street (!) parking for four cars. The roads in Monte Verde were rather tight and we were in a 4WD truck, so I was very happy to not have to parallel park it on the street.
The location is also very walkable. You can walk to all the restaurants and shops in town. While that may not be all that surprising, we drove past quite a few hotels and resorts that were out on the various roads leading out of town, and I much preferred being somewhere I didn't need a car to get a casado.
Looking back, Camino Verde stands out for offering a lot of things to do. We were able to grab breakfast, and easily join a tour to Monte Verde reserve in the morning, come back to town for lunch and get a tour that afternoon for a coffee plantation. All of this was reasonably priced and required no Spanish language proficiency to arrange.
The breakfast was also really nice. If you eat in the larger kitchen, it is self-serve. It is also first-come first-served. A couple people made piggies of themselves, and when I came a little late, there was very little fruit left and not much eggs. Buying breakfast out adds up though, and the one provided here is quite nice for the price of the rooms.
The bathrooms are not in the greatest shape. The showers kind of 'stutter' from time to time, with the water cutting in and out while the pipes knock.
Overall, worth the money, good location and lots to do.
Our time at Camino Verde bnb was excellent. Andres and Jose are the best! All email is answered promptly. The were extremely helpful with booking tours and any transportation needs. They both have a wonderful sense of humour which my wife and I really enjoyed!
The reservation was canceled 12 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We had a great time in monte verde despite the cold, very windy and rainy weather. Andres was super helpful and even gave us half our money back when the crazy wind knocked something loose on the neighbours property and banged all night. Overall, a great experience!
