Explore Kauai from this central East Coast location, enjoy mountain and jungle views from your lanai! The cottage is set on 2+ acres and is perfect for a single person or couple. It offers:
Comfy queen-size bed, shower bath, living room, dining area, well equipped kitchenette, gas grill on lanai, TV, wireless internet access. Shared washer/dryer, beginners' surfboards.
We know the island well and will be happy to assist you with your island adventures!
If it's the season you might want to pick starfruit, passion fruit, yellow- and strawberry guava on the 2+ acre compound; coconuts are available year-round and shampoo ginger will give your hair that special shine.
Just 5 minutes walk from the cottage you'll reach Steelgrass Farm. My brother-in-law offers educational tours of his chocolate farm 3 times a week! Very informative, fun and utterly ONOlicious.....bring some dark chocolate, raw Kauai honey and vanilla beans back for the folks at home!
Just 3 miles down the hill in Kapa'a town you find all the shops, restaurants and cafes you might like to visit. Right by the Moikeha canal and the historic Japanese lantern you'll see the quaint public library with internet access. Of course, there are numerous cafes as well that offer wifi: Small Town Cafe, Cafe Hemingway and Starbucks, to name a few. And yes, you got to try Olympic Cafe for Happy Hour on Fridays, 4 to 7, cheap beer and free tacos!
That's just a few places in Kapa'a town........
The closest beach which is safe for swimming at any time is Lydgate Beach Park, right next to the Wailua River mouth. it's a 60-acre park with lots of amenities, walled seawater ponds, showers, pavilions, picnic tables, barbecue pits, playground, lifeguard station and a 2-mile-long path for walking, jogging, cycling and more. Just North of Kapa'a town is beautiful, wide open Kealia Beach; great for surfing as well as bathing at the North end. This beach boasts a life guard, covered pavilions, shower/bathrooms and a long stretch of that multi-use path which will take you to big, wild Donkey Beach! During your walk you might see humpback whales breaching out there.......from December till May.
No drugs please! Sorry, no pets - we already have outdoor kitties.
Please, no shoes inside the cottage - this is Hawaii!
We loved our stay at the cozy cottage!! We felt like we were in the center of the jungle. It was very private but Charlotte was very responsive when we had a few questions. We hope to stay there again.
We're an older couple with previous visits to Kauai at the big, corporate, five star luxury resorts. We always stay a couple weeks when we come. This time we wanted less of a 'touristy' feel so opted for the Cozy Cottage with more privacy and a lush rural setting.
The cottage was wonderful! It's everything advertised and much more. The Lydgates attend to every detail & traveler's need in the most accommodating fashion with pleasant surprises never expected.
'Fully furnished' doesn’t capture the variety of helpful items included from boogie boards, a coffee maker, closet full of towels & bedding, even a bamboo back scratcher. Tour books, a welcome starter of treats in the fridge, large gas BBQ grill, local fresh fruit on the kitchen table, & much more.
The premises were immaculate, very private, and totally modern with good plumbing, screened windows & doors, a complete kitchen and bath, and good Wi-Fy & TV reception. Plenty of deck space with views of distant waterfalls, jungle scenes, and green hills all around. Two beautiful cats who love to visit.
The sweetest tasting water on earth, cooling trade winds, double rainbows, myna birds everywhere, geckos of every color and size, friendly neighbors met at farmer's markets and about town, all the tourists spots to visit, the incredible ocean, rivers, and beaches …. it's Kauai at it's best!
All in all, a very comfortable cottage and great hosts!
My boyfriend & I felt truly blessed to stay at this wonderful cottage! It was the perfect size & location for us...very clean and airy. Charlotte & John were both very gracious and respectful hosts. Charlotte had juice, bread, fruit and other treats waiting for us which was so nice to have on hand for breakfast and snacks. The "rainforest" environment was wonderful...full of quiet with hints of bird calls and beautiful plants. We enjoyed the fun kitties that would greet us in the morning and on return from the day...very charming! We felt as though we had the place to ourselves since we rarely saw or heard the Lydgates yet we knew they were available if we needed anything. The snorkeling at their namesake beach park was delightful and we enjoyed helping out at the beach clean up. It truly is a cozy cottage and we hope to return. Mahalo and aloha!
The perfect place to be on Kauai!
Great location, definitely cozy, wonderful amenities, very nice cats. Charlotte was very nice and welcoming, and gave us generous privacy despite the close proximity to her house. We would definitely recommend this rental to others, and would love to go back.
Our stay at the cozy cottage was a wonderful experience. Charlotte was extremely helpful before and during our stay, and was always quick to respond. The cottage was very clean, and very cozy! We would highly recommend a stay in the cozy cottage! It is a great place and truly a treasure!
What a treasure the Cozy Cottage is. Charlotte and John have gone above and beyond in making this lovely spot a home away from home with all the comforts and convienences needed (there was even cable TV allowing us to watch World Cup games!). It is quietly and beautifully situated about 10 minutes outside of Kapa'a on top of a hill overlooking a lush jungle with mountain views on one side and a peek of the ocean on the other. Our daily adventures included lots of snorkeling, hiking and kayaking and the cottage was so lovely to come home to at the end of each day of adventure. The hilltop setting provided cool breezes every night and we slept like babies, waking to the sound of bird song (very few roosters!) every morning.
Charlotte provided basic snacks, coffee juice, milk etc. which was really helpful. We also had access to snorkeling equipment and beach chairs which we definitely took advantage of.
Charlotte and John were present and helpful without being in anyway intrusive.
Make sure to visit their namesake - Lydgate beach!
All in all an absolutely delightful place to stay. I couldn't imagine anything better.

Originally from Germany I was very fortunate to move West halfway around the world, via Cornwall, UK, and Washington, DC to the most beautiful rock in the middle of the Pacific - KAUA'I!
John and I have lived here for the last 21 years and enjoyed the company of many visitors - family, old and new friends, many of them through airbnb: Traveling to and fro this remote island can be challenging; thus having the world come to us has been greatly rewarding!
When not working as a tour guide I enjoy hiking, swimming, reading, gardening, the Great Outdoors at large, volunteering with beach cleaning and selling fresh produce at the Farmers' Market.
I'm a big aficionado of slack key music; also like tango, Fado and French chansons. My favorite foods range from organic greens to spicy curries....and part of my heart and soul will always be in South India!
