We were serenaded to sleep each evening by a chorus of Hawaiian frogs and awakened by the goats and chickens who share this lovely hillside property. It was a delightful break from city sounds. The property is very rural and several miles from grocery and bigger cities on the island. Probably more convenient for hikers. The accommodations were somewhat Spartan although adequately supplied. The wifi was somewhat spotty and slow. We missed having a comfortable couch or chair to lounge at the end of the day. The room could use a little tlc in maintenance, but not serious issues. We needed our gps to find the place every day we were there even after several attempts without using it. Getting into and mostly out of the driveway was a challenge. It was a team effort but we managed. This was our first experience with Airbnb and we were a little disappointed overall. We did not see the hosts at all after our initial arrival. Finding the place was challenging and parking was good but access to in and out took skill. Instruction were not provided for trash removal and usage of appliances.

Sean was very nice and helpful during our stay. The property is small, but definitely sufficient for a couple. It feels almost like a motel room but is located adjacent to the host's house which is on a farm. The studio was clean, but not immaculate. There was a cockroach that made his way into the studio and hid in our luggage, but I guess this isn't too surprising given that it is located on a farm. Keep in mind the animals will wake you up nice and early (but the roosters and goats are so cute). We did not make use of the cooking equipment, which looked minimal, but did use the sink and fridge to prepare some snacks and fruit, and everything in the kitchen was clean. The property isn't right in Honokaa - it is a 10 minutes drive to town.

Our stay with Wayne and Shan was excellent! The location was quiet and far from any busy roads. If you're looking for a real get away from touristic crowds, this is the place. There is also a beautiful state park near by, Hamakua Forest Reserve that it's worth to check it out. The interior of the apartment was immaculate and included everything one needs. From a full selection of kitchen items, including an electric hot plate for cooking, pans, tableware, cups and glasses to a mini microwave and even a wine bottle opener. The bowl of fresh local fruit, coffee and muffins added a nice welcoming touch. The living area and sleeping area are both well equipped. The seating could use a slight upgrade to maybe a more comfortable love seat. The wicker chairs (two) almost didn't accommodate my boyfriend's 6'4" frame. The seating however, should play little if any role in one's decision to rent this perfectly put together, spacious, and extremely well kept location. A GPS is highly recommended for your initial drive up the hill, especially if arriving at night as we did. Wayne waited up for us as our rental car acquisition was delayed topped with a one hour drive from Kona airport. We did arrive late and at no point did we feel our arrival time was an inconvenience to Wayne. This was an EXCELLENT choice and if you're looking to stay away from the much more tourist packed south side of the Big Island, look no further and simply book this location.

We really enjoyed staying at the studio and its location. only 10 minutes to Honokaa and there are hiking trails nearby too. Wayne and Shannon were very friendly and made us feel at home. They left us fresh papaya and avocado. yum! We would happily stay here again.

Wayne's place was very clean and quiet, was well equipped for an efficiency kitchen. The fruit basket was a nice added touch along with the muffins. Thanks Wayne..
