At just 4 minutes down the same road, the Woodshed Lodge is the closest independent lodging to Jay Peak Ski Resort. The Lodge is a truly unique and charming historic property with a 120+ year legacy. We host guests, groups, & weddings year round and offer a clean, quiet setting with private en suite rooms, friendly service with a focus on GOOD FOOD, and a laidback, family campground-style ambience. Come see us for the legendary snowpack, leaf season, the food, the aprés, the hiking, biking, etc

The space
The Woodshed Lodge was originally built to house timber workers in the early 1900’s, and under just three ownerships since, the Lodge has enjoyed a storied history of hosting skiers and hikers that prefer to stay somewhere with unique charm and character. Modern and luxurious, we are not. But what we lack in state of the art amenities, we make up for with an unbeatable location (proximity to Jay), above-average food and service, clean and comfortable rooms and beds, and an unique ambiance. If you’re the type that enjoys a step back in time with like-minded souls, come see us at the Woodshed!

This particular room ('Hemlock Room') offers 1 Queen bed and x2 single beds, plus an en suite, private bathroom with a stall shower.

Our standard rates apply to x2 adults, with no additional charge for children. For each additional adult after two, there is a $25/head surcharge.

Inside, you’ll be transported back in time thanks to the authentically rustic construction and ambiance. We have renovated many of the rooms and bathrooms bathrooms and now offer some basic modern amenities such as high-speed WiFi, a hot tub, and keypad locks - yet the Lodge retains her unmatched historic charm. We have 6 rooms, 5 of which offer en suite, private bathrooms, and three of which (the XL suites) offer multiple-bed options (up to three beds, of various sizes).

The common areas include x2 living/sitting rooms with bookshare libraries, TV's, and high speed wifi access, as well as our especially charming dining/banquet room that you'll want to write home about. This room boasts a wood stove set on a hearth made from local river stones. The walls, floors, ceiling, and counter tops are made from local, reclaimed wooden beams. There is a collection of vintage wooden hand tools that are original to the property, as well as a collection of rare vintage skies. You'll find communal coffee and tea stations, a communal refrigerator for guest food & bev, a sink, a microwave, and a hot plate.

"Outside is where the magic happens". The Lodge is set amongst 25 acres of quiet woods, set up high and about a hald mile off the road. We have over 10 acres of yard space, plus an adjoining 15 acres of untouched woods that are perfect for nature walks, bird watching, etc. Our guests enjoy a laid back, family-friendly setting with a campground vibe. Many nights you will find a few of the guests gathering together around one of our fire pits in the yard, fishing in the trout pond, or looking for frogs and salamanders in the stream with the kids. There is a stream running through the property which feeds the pond and serves up a beautiful background audio track. In our primary yard, there is deck & patio with outdoor furniture, BBQ grill, and a 6-person hot tub. We also have multiple fire pits around the yard for those guests who'd like to keep the family circle. If you keep your eyes peeled (and sometimes even if you don't!), you're likely to spot some of our local residents from 'the neighborwoods' - chipmunks, red squirrels, birds of prey, muskrats, foxes, skunks, beavers, and black bears.

We aren't fancy... but we do have a background in preparing and serving halfway decent food, and we pride ourselves on offering above-average breakfast grub for our guests. Whatever ingredients we can't grow in our own raised beds, we source from local farmers, produce stands, dairies, and bakeries. Included in the price of the rooms is an 'above and beyond' hot continental breakfast bar. Additionally we also offer a hot/ made-to-order menu each morning: $10/$5 adults/kids. We like to think that this is the best value on the mountain (and the only place to get a hot breakfast in this area), but come see for yourself! *See our menu on our website!

The Woodshed Lodge is the closest independent lodging facility to Jay Peak Resort, just 3 miles and less than 5 minutes up the hill. We are only two minutes from the two of Jay, where you can find a grocery store, liquor store, family restaurant, sandwich/deli/cafe, gas station, ski shop, and gift shop. For larger shopping trips or nights out 'on the town', the city of Newport is a 25 minute drive. For epic mountain biking, Burke Mountain is about 45 minutes. For hiking, we are 5 minutes down the road from the access to both the Catamount Trail and the Long Trail. On the other side of the mountain (about 12 min drive), you'll find the charming town of Montgomery, with multiple dining and aprés options.

In addition to the nightly room bookings, we host weddings, events, and group retreats. Please message us for rates and details on these.

Where you’ll be

Jay, Vermont, United States

The neighborhood is the neighborwoods! It's pretty rural here - there is no public transport and no ride share. Jay Village is 2 minutes away, and Jay Peak resort is a 4 minute drive up the hill.

We have plenty of free parking at the Lodge, including spots for trailers, campers/vans/busses/RV's.

Hi, we’re Bill and Karla! We both hail from the Carolinas originally, but have recently relocated to Jay, Vermont after falling in love with the Green Mountain State. Both of us have a strong background in hospitality, having spent our careers working on charter yachts. We purchased the Woodshed Lodge in May of 2021, and after a couple of months of renovations and restructuring, we are very happy and very excited to be able to host you in this uniquely charming, historic property.
