This was our second time visiting the ranch and it was a great experience. Will definitely be back!
My family and I had a great stay at Susan's. A warm and attentive hostess, a clean comfortable room with the convenience of an attached full bathroom, reasonable use of the rest of the ranch indoor and out, and a wonderful experience sums up our stay...
Susan is a wonderful host. We had a long breakfast with her in the morning, she told us much about they area, about her farm and her travels to Germany. We would have loved to stay for a few more days!
Great host, beautiful house and the countryside is stunning.
Susan puts the "bnb" in airbnb." so often, "private room" means "as little contact with the host as possible" (which to be fair, some people want). and not just in the literal sense (she did provide us a great breakfast and bed), but in terms of the general warmth she exuded.
susan waited up until 2am while we drove around looking for her place, and was extremely welcoming when we got there. on top of that, due to our own stupidity, we made it to her place with barely any gas left, and she was more than happy to give us a gallon of gas that she had laying around, which was enough to get us into town the next day to fill up (and she gave us very specific directions on how to do so).
if you're ever in the area and need a place to stay (which, to be fair, probably isn't too often, we happened to be doing a triathlon in napa and there was nowhere affordable closer), i cannot recommend this place highly enough. would be a great place to use for a lake berryessa weekend.
Just an FYI- Once a client pays for the room, another set of information is always available, which includes VERY specific directions to the ranch, including private road access w/gate codes, cell numbers etc. The address on the road is very well marked.
I then recommend that a person either print this, or take a "snapshot" on their phone of the map, etc, in case your cell fails (battery, satellite, etc).
I also recommend that folks try to arrive in daylight, as traveling to a new, unfamiliar place is rarely easy.
Mark had done a triathlon that day at Lake Berryessa and asked if he could arrive between midnight and 1:30 am... the house was lit, room ready, etc. They missed their turnoff and passed Pleasants Valley Rd, which is named Cnty Rd 83, coming from the lake.
I will try to make more specific directions, however, it is also up to you to read and have the directions easily accessible. Anyone with some great ideas are welcome to email me thorough the reservation site and I will do my best to review them!
The room was large and homey, with everything we could need. We were staying for a race and had to leave early in the morning (4am!) but Susan very kindly helped by making coffee and leaving breakfast foods out in the morning. We were unable to experience the ranch, but it sounds like it could have been a really nice way to spend the day.
Christine and I appreciated every moment at Susan's master bedroom retreat on her ranch. The room was spacious, cute, comfortable, quiet, private, and well outfitted with all the expected amenities of a master bedroom. There were plenty of extra blankets. The internet worked great if you need it. Susan also offered the use of a fax machine and printer! There was a small couch and coffee table with a few games and books. There was a small refrigerator with a freezer (which I needed!). The attached bathroom was adorable and everything Christine and I could have needed. Susan has good taste indeed.
We were treated to a tasty spread of cheeses, fruits, a pineapple from her last trip to Hawaii, yogurt, and were able to cook some eggs for ourselves to go along with breakfast. The kitchen is beautiful, spacious, well lit, and well outfitted.
The ranch is in a very pretty location, and is teaming with wildlife. There are turkeys, deer, birds everywhere, frogs and crickets at night, and hummingbirds in the morning:) You'll feel at ease on Susan's acreage.
Susan is a wonderful host, delightful conversationalist should you choose to interact, and has an awesome DIY approach to life and work on the ranch.
Susan was great. She reached out ahead of time to make sure our arrival worked seamlessly and had the room ready. The room and home were very comfortable - and the food in the morning was appreciated and delicious even though we couldn't always take advantage due to our schedule.
Susan is also great to talk to. We didn't spend much time at her place because we were seeing family, but if you get time to talk to her she knows a ton about the area and has some great ideas for things to do during your stay.
The area is beautiful. It is country living, so there are a few spiders and some mud if it's rainy out, but the foothills are stunning no matter when one visits. Driving some of the roads is worth doing even if there is no destination. Winters is cute and has some good food/shopping, plus one can get to Vacaville or Davis or Sacramento for other shopping within an hour. There's plenty of other stuff to do - Winters has a new brewery and winery to enjoy plus it's close to Napa.
Everything one could ask for.
