We spent a week in this family-owned and -operated B&B (with apartments in addition to rooms) in Nocelle, which has extraordinary views from all the rooms (each room has a terrace or balcony). The big reason to be in a small place like Nocelle is to get away from the tourist crowds of Positano (there is a bus every hour to Positano - once was enough for us since we preferred to hike and relax rather than shop; so we were really glad to be up in Nocelle rather than in Positano). And the hiking is amazing.
The rooms and beds are comfortable, the showers hot and strong, and the kitchenette is adequate for simple meals (keep in mind that this a kitchenette rather than being stocked like a full apartment with separate kitchen). The hostess, Luciana, is the daughter of the house and does most of the interfacing with guests. She is extraordinarily helpful and pleasant, as is her brother, Rafael, who provided us car transport from Atrani and to Sorrento. Her parents are also extremely gracious and genuine, and one of the real pleasures of our stay was interacting with the whole family and hearing their life stories.
A couple of things to be aware of: We would recommend a flashlight for some parts of the path leading from the bus stop in Nocelle to Villa Sofia as there are sometimes dark patches at night despite the lighting on the path. There is a pizzeria and trattoria in Nocelle (both better than you’d expect for a 100-person village), and a small grocery store for essential provisions. For excellent restaurants or larger grocery stores, you can go to Montepertuso a mile down the road (we enjoyed Il Ritrovo and La Terra), and of course Positano (we really liked La Cambusa on the beachfront). We had a wonderful time overall and will have great memories of our week in Villa Sofia.
The place is truly a little paradise. The view is extraordinarily beautiful , nature is great full of olive trees, wild herbs and many fruits, including figs in the property.
Luciana and all the family are great hosts. Ready to help with the challenges of managing luggages in a remote and special place.
Marvelous walks, a nice restaurant in walking distance.
Room was very spacious with a good bath and kitchen. Breakfast was good.
Luciana ready to help with suggestions, stories of how the villa was built by her grandfather. Her mother and father were also warm and hospitable, offered us local fish and fresh figs from the garden.
Internet worked well in the garden taking into account the remote location and was better of what I expected.
A unique experience in an unforgettable place.Best with a car and an experienced driver for very narrow roads. Also there is a bus service.
Wow. What a great place to stay. High up in the hills overlooking beautiful Positano. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable with 2 sets of double french doors onto our private balcony. The views in the pictures are accurately depicted. They are amazing. Breakfast was served every day on the main deck and included fresh pastries, toast, fruit (from their own garden sometimes) coffee and juice. Luciana was a wonderful host. We had lots of questions for her everyday and she was always patient and helpful. We hope to be back someday.
My family and I had a fantastic stay at villa Sofia with Luciana and her family. Superb views, world class walks, and easy access to Positano by local bus. This location is not for everyone. There are many stairs in the area, so being fit is important. Luciana was so very helpful with all aspects of the stay. Be sure to use their motorized cable luggage transporter. The accommodation was comfortable and very clean, while the breakfast terrace had the best views on the Amalfi coast. Excellent stay.
After we were perfectly guided to the place by Luciano we could see the view we knew from the pictures in real life: the pictures aren´t able to come with the reality. Our appartment was very large and we had a balcon with a view right over the ocean. Perfect for a very romantic dinner!
Breakfast was served to your room or on a large common balcon- just as you wish - and was very rich. The fresh local fruits are really very tasty. Luciano was the perfect host for that all: well-read in many languages and with great suggestions for excursions in the surrounding and very helpful. We hardly could have find better place to stay.
Luciana is a friendly, hard working and informative host. We enjoyed our week at the villa tremendously. The view from the villa is beautiful. Recommended.
Words cannot adequately describe the view from Villa Sofia! As many others have said, Nocelle is the hidden gem of Positano. Luciana and her family couldn't do enough to make our stay any more comfortable. It is a 30 minute bus ride up the mountain to the parking lot where we were met by Luciana's brother who took our luggage down to the villa for us while we walked the "path of the gods" to the villa. Luciana greeted us with chilled Limoncello and gave us lots of helpful information and how to use the bus. Breakfast was wonderful and was served on a terrace with breathtaking views. Rooms were clean and spacious and well appointed. There is quite a bit of walking getting to and from the villa to the parking lot where you catch the bus, but it is worth every step. It is truly paradise and we cannot say enough about our stay at this remarkable villa!
We recently stayed at Villa Sofia while in Positano and it was wonderful. Luciana and her family couldn't do enough for us to make our stay memorable. While a little hard to find the effort was well worth it. Fabulously clean large villa, breakfast trays, home grown produce and the views were out of this world, just like the picture. Only negative was we should have stayed longer! Highly recommend Villa Sofia, I could say there are a lot of steps to the villa but in Positano it's to be expected.
The pictures don't lie, Via Sofia really is this beautiful!
The reviews also don't lie, Luciana really is this fantastic of a host and Via Sofia/Nocelle is a hidden gem on the Amalfi Coast.
We would like to visit again on a non-peak season as August was very crowded along the coast; but regardless, Nocelle is tucked away and very special. Luciana did a great job in making us feel at home and we highly recommend a visit to her Via Sofia.
