Our house fronts Birchgrove Park, 10 minutes west of Sydney CBD. Mostly very quiet & always beautiful. Ground floor double room w/ensuite, private entrance, v. comfortable foldout double bed, north-facing verandah with harbour views. Surrounded by parkland.

The space

We live in a quiet street facing Birchgrove Oval, a jewel of a park with sparkling Sydney Harbour on the other side. 15 minute bus or ferry ride to the City just a few minutes' walk from our front door.

Your room has its own private entrance and access to the front verandah, facing north overlooking Birchgrove Park and Sydney Harbour.

There is a small fridge, a toaster and a kettle. There are plates, cups, glasses, bowls and cutlery. We provide a teapot, coffee plunger, coffee, tea, milk and sugar, and some delicious local granola, but you need to provide any other food. There is no microwave.

We also provide an international to Australian plug converter.

Guest access

Entry is up a few steps from the street, then your room is on the ground floor. Access from the park at the side is up only one small step.

There's a cafe, laundromat and corner shop and local pub a few minutes' walk from the house.

Ferry and bus to the city within a few minutes walk.

Interaction with guests

We will welcome you and provide ample information about the neighbourhood and access to other parts of the city. We will be available as needed to help with any problems as we live in the house to which this self-contained room is attached.

Other things to note

During the winter season there is soccer and rugby at weekends on the Oval in front of our house, but it's all over by late afternoon and the neighbourhood reverts to its usual blissful calm. Tuesday - Friday evenings there is soccer practice 4 - 9 pm.

This sometimes makes parking an issue during these times.

Summertime means weekend cricket (2nd grade) but it's a very modest affair with no impact on residents.

This is a compact, but very functional place in the very beautiful area of Balmain. The fruit and breakfast and coffee options were all very well catered for in the space. Lewis was in Europe but his daughter Sophia was very helpful during the stay.

Response from Lewis:
David - I'm sorry if you had issues with the wifi. I'm sitting in the Airbnb room and it's working perfectly, and has been all last week. I'm sorry you did not raise this with me during your stay so I could have addressed it.

This beautiful b and b is amazing. The situation opposite the park and water is lovely and the accommodation is faultless from the comfortable bed to the nourishing breakfast and snacks. The hosts went out of their way to communicate with me on my arrival and made my stay very enjoyable and hassle free. The walk to the main street of Balmain is an easy 15-20 minute walk.

We were visiting our daughter and grandaughter across the park so the location was perfect. Only 2 minutes walk. Lewis gave the keys to our daughter prior to our arrival so access was easy. Janice also popped in to welcome us in the evening and we had a lovely chat about things. Both extremely welcoming and hospitable hosts . We felt comfortable at once. The accommodation was extremely clean, comfortable, quiet, private and homely with nice small touches like beautiful coffee and organic milk and the best granola I've ever tasted. We intend to make it our base in Sydney for future visits. Thanks to you both .... Andrejs and Lynne

Delightful and gracious hosts, long time locals who know the area well; a clean and neat room and bathroom; most convenient location with excellent bus connection to the CBD. A magnificent fig tree overhead provides shade, making this a cool corner in the heat of Summer. The hosts offered use of their adjacent terrace balcony that overlooks the tree-lined oval and the water views- A pleasant spot for an afternoon's viewing of the local cricket comp. traveling as a single visiting family in the local area this was a perfect spot and I'll be back. The hosts made us all (me and family) feel so welcome- nothing was a trouble and we even left them a present for making such an effort to ensure our stay was so lovely.

Many thanks Siobhan - we look forward to welcoming you again. We'll work harder on the mosquitoes. The tree is actually a camphor laurel - a massive weed even while providing lovely shade. Thanks again for your unexpected gift. Best wishes. Lewis

I'm a Health Policy Professional and my wife is a registered Psychologist. We have travelled extensively in Asia and Europe and look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world (including Australians of course!) We are part of a multicultural family which includes Italian, Chinese, English and French ties.
We go to the movies a lot, eat out regularly (usually in and around Balmain) and have many close relationships with neighbours around the suburb.
