Overall, it was an excellent price and a good place to stay while visiting Manhattan. I liked the close and easy transit to Manhattan, Hoboken, and Liberty State Park. Nanda is a wonderful man with a great personality. He was very easy to get along with. Nandha cleaned shared spaces -bathroom, kitchen and living room - weekly. Nanda and Judith made good choices who they rented to. I met friendly and interesting people from several different countries in the almost three months I stayed there.
Being a woman traveling on my own, I felt safe in the house with the housemates. There was a lock on my bedroom door as well as the shared upstairs apartment. I felt safe returning from the city many times after 10pm
It was also nice to have access to the washer and dryer in the house, free spring water was provided. However, being a picky vegetarian organic eater, I had to either take the Light Rail Train to Exchange Place or the West Village to find groceries or I often had my food delivered through a company called Door to Door organics. However, there are regular grocery stores very close to the house.
I would definitely come back and stay again.
I stayed a month ....
This house is very beautiful as the pictures! 20 minutes from Manhattan, the neighborhood is very quiet both day and night
The husband of Judith is a very good person, nice and very disponibile.Ha always smile and puts you in a good mood ...
I was happy with my stay, I think I will return
Très bon séjour ".
Meanwhile thanks...I think if it weren't Judith and her husband, my stay would haven't been so pleasant and full of information..:-)
Judith is without a doubt the best Host you could wish for..
She and her husband are two wonderful people, nice, helpful, kind and above all comfortable..
Even before our arrival, they are became available caring for us..later, they were really generous and sensitive..they showed us where and what train to take to move, which places to visit, where to buy as well as to give us a lot of general information..
The room is very nice, warm and cozy...the house is large, clean and equipped with everything you need..
Jersey city is a very nice, quiet and not dangerous,is well stocked with many shops and not far from Manhattan..
Then..my experience with Airbnb and New York was fantastic and thanks also to Judith..:-))
I stayed for about 4,5 months at Judith's apt and all in all I had a good time! The room was quite small but had everything I needed and was cosy. The cleanliness of the entire apt was a “german“ okay, however, I chose to clean everything before really 'moving in'-especially the ventillation flig oft he air-con, fridge, microwave and things that don't have to be cleaned like once a week but maybe 6-8times a year-might be that I am a total stereotype of a german. Concerning the noises at the apt: it is not that well sound-proofed, you could hear your roomate’s t vor phone calls very clear and also one could hear the three kids running, screaming, playing from downstairs but Judith&Nansha are working on that and it already got a lot better! The neighborhood, therefore is very quiet. Location: If you choose this apt instead of one in manhattan(as its cheaper), you should keep in mind that the transportation to manhattan also costs quite a loot of money and especially time! In the beginning I used to take the bus($3) to the next Path train station(Journal Square -from there 30minutes to 33rdSt). The bus was supposed to come every 10minutes... Well, it just did not, never! So I took the LightRail($2,20), which takes about 25minutes to the next Path train station going to 33rd St (Newport), from there it was only about 15-20 minutes to 33rd St.! When I was lucky it only took me 65minutes from 33rdSt to West Side Ave. Still, I had to pay $64 for a monthly LightRail pass and $78 for a monthly Path Train pass - luckily my office was in walking distance from 33rd street. Check where you need to go as a monthly MTA Subway pass costs about $105 - and always keep in mind that the busses don't really care about their schedules. Grocery Shopping - another big thing...to be honest, it took me a while to find the right place to go.There is a small store in walking distance (10minutes) but you don't get everything there-especially no fresh fruits&vegetables or good looking meat, but you will pass a great italian bakery with super delicious bread&cakes-if you want a real supermarket with everything you need, it takes you about 20minutes by light rail to go there-but it is worth it – love that superarket! To Judith&Nansha: Whenever I had a question or needed an advice or help, I could ask them! Also in times of superstorm sandy, I really appreciated their heart-warming and welcoming manner-Thanks a lot!!! I have seen Judith’ comment already and I want to say that I did not mean to give a wrong impression of this apt. I just felt that I wanted to share my experience with you, the following guests. With no word I am saying that I do not recommend the place!! I simply have made other experiences, as I almost stayed for 5 months, than the short term guest.
Timing with the light rail is closer to 15 minutes not 25 minutes to the
first path train station witch is Exchange place So from the Westside light
rail to the 33rd Path it’s 45 minutes instead of 65. There is a direct Bus
from Manhattan Port Authority to Jersey City that only cost $3 and it drops
you right up the street in only 20 minutes and Sabrina’s experience
unfortunately has a lot to do with the after mouth of Hurricane Sandy.
The room size is 10 by 10 Standard American room, with a very comfortable
Queen size bed a dresser, closet and TV. For the Cleanness of the
apartment, I am not German but perfectly “clean freak”, I do the
cleaning myself, on a weekly basis and a daily maintenance of all the share
For the soundproofing and noise: it only partially accurate as our
priority is always the comfort of our guests, we have invested thousands’
and thousands of dollars to sound proof our apartment, so the issue were
only the 1st month she arrived and were fixed back in October last year
Local store are perfectly good, METFOOD and Filipino’s stores for fresh
fruits and veggie only 10 minutes’ walk from the house, and PATHMARK is
also 10 minutes by bus or Shoprite 20 minutes by light rail. My husband and
I are always available to help if needed. After a long day in Manhattan,
you will surely appreciate the comfort of my apartment and what it has to
offer, privacy and a home away from home.
Judith was absolutely amazing. The apartment was like a home away from home, and Judith made me feel comfortable from the moment that I did stepped in.
Judith's house is really nice and relatively inexpensive. It has everything you need, a big kitchen and dining room and comfortable bedrooms. It's easy to get to the city from the area but can sometimes take a little while
(40 minutes or so) when the trains are less frequent. My boyfriend and I stayed all together for three months. I would recommend Judith's house for long term visitors more so than short term just because of the distance to the city.
Great find! Clean, comfortable & convenient. I have a car and parking has been relatively easy considering it is a metro location - one block from lt rail. Complete privacy with separate key if you feel the need to lock your private room door - I haven't felt the need, as all other guests have been cool. Judith and family a delight! Helps me not miss my own family so much! Bed & linens top notch. Kitchen fully equiped. Bathroom has rainhead shower & great water pressure. Judith thinks of all the right little touches - iron & ironing board, expanded cable, fast internet & spring water ... just to name a few!
Chose the room based on photos & reviews. Happy to report that all were accurate. Judith was waiting for me outside as I drove up at around 10PM - to show me where to park my car, help me with bags & get me settled in my room. The room & shared apt are clean and very comfortable. Bed is firm and linens top notch. Large kitchen is fully equiped & bathroom has full bathtub w/ rainhead shower - great water pressure. Great AC & use of washer/dryer. Interesting flat mates were friendly & respectful of privacy. Judith is a wonderful host and her beautiful family a delight!
