The Space

My adobe house was built in 1948 with large ash trees planted around it.This is a traditional New Mexican style home. Adobe keeps it warm in winter and cool in summer
I have created a lovely garden with flowers blooming from spring to the first frosts. There are two patios where guests are welcome to sit and I have a hammock which is easily put up.
My garden is private and quite large. I also offer off street parking.
Though I live in mid-town which is close to everything it is quiet and serene in my house .
It is about a 10 minute drive to Old Town, the historic part of Albuquerque with good restaurants, museums and IMAX theater near by. We have the longest aerial tramway in the world which takes you up to the top of the Sandia Mountains.( Sandia means watermelon in Spanish which describes the wonderful color of the mountains at sunset. I am close to ABQ Uptown, upscale shopping and dining and Apple store. Also nearby is the Nob Hill area on historic Route (email hidden)ly mix of boutique shops, restaurants and Nightclubs.
There are interesting day trips to the Indian pueblos like Acoma built on the top of a mesa and Madrid which was a coal mining town now revitalized by artists weavers and potters. Madrid is on the scenic Turquoise Trail, the back road to Santa Fe.
Santa Fe itself is a one hour drive on the freeway from Albuquerque and we also have the Rail Runner
Also downtown you can find the Indian Cultural Center and the Hispanic Cultural Center.
In October we have the Balloon Fiesta, the largest hot air ballon event in the world.

  • Hi, Claire's photos and description were spot on. What a beautiful garden even though I didn't get to spend much time in it! She puts so much love in to it. It is a quiet location and I found it convenient to every place I needed to be. It is close to University/Nob Hill which is where I mostly found food as well as there (email hidden)-op and Whole Foods close by (I think also a Trader Joe's). I also cooked a lot! Also bonus as the house is close to the airport! I must have missed that Claire had a cat in the listing but what a cutie! I don't know that I will ever feel completely comfortable in someone else's home as a share, it is a bit like having a roommate but Claire opens her home up ie. kitchen, bathroom just for guest, etc.. She definitely seems easy going about things. I wasn't there to tour but I think she would be a great resource if you need it as she has been in the area a long time!

  • While my visit was quite short, the stay was wonderful! Claire is an excellent host, gives recommendations when needed and easy to chat with. Her house is clean, comfortable and peaceful. Sitting outside in her garden (especially in the morning when the birds are active) was a true delight, and I enjoyed watching the hummingbirds whiz by during their trips to the feeder. Butterscotch, the resident kitty, is an absolute sweetheart. The house is an easy 20 minute walk to Nob Hill, which is packed with restaurants, galleries and coffee shops.

  • Claire's home is tranquil and artistic. Claire is a lovely hostess - interesting, informative and warm. My husband and I spent a delightful week in her home. I would highly recommend it to others. If/when we go back to ABQ, we will definitely try and stay there.

  • A perfect week in this 'enchanted' adobe home with a welcoming and gracious hostess. Claire's design background and knowledge of many things make this home and garden a delightful and aesthetic blend of plants, flowers, books, artworks and furnishings - and led to many interesting conversations. Thank you Claire! We will certainly stay in touch, especially since I am in the process of moving to Albuquerque.

  • Claire was lovely, the bed very comfortable, breakfast quite nice and fresh, and the location perfect for exploring places on nob hill, downtown old town, and the rest of the city environs. We enjoyed our stay! Thank you, Claire!

  • I had a very pleasant stay at Claire's place. The house and garden were uniquely and expertly kept and my interaction with Claire (and her friendly cat) was nothing but 100% positive and agreeable. The neighborhood is great and also convenient to Nob Hill and UNM.

  • I loved staying at Claire's place. She has a beautiful home and is a very gracious host. I ate breakfast (which she provided) outside one morning with birds chirping behind me and felt totally at peace. I came to attend a conference and Claire drove me to the conference meeting place one morning, which was very nice of her.

  • We were delighted to book a room in this lovely adobe-style home with Claire. She is a gracious hostess with a lovely residence filled with unique artwork and books. The house is conveniently located near the University. We hope she is a long time B&B host because we would love to visit her again. And next time, we'll bring our bikes!

  • Claire was a fantastic host. The home was immaculate and beautifully decorated! She was very flexible with my late night flight arrival, and was a joy to chat with in the evening. My job put me up in a fancy downtown hotel after I stayed at Claire's, and I was disappointed. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in ABQ again.

I was born in England and lived in the center of London for many years when I was a designer. I had the opportunity to come to the US in the early 80s where I lived in Florida for several years before coming to beautiful New Mexico In 1990. Here I’ve experienced living outside Taos, the North Valley, up in the East Mountains before finding my lovely adobe home in the mid town Albuquerque. I have made gardens everywhere I’ve lived and during my years in Chimayo I sold the produce from my large and lush garden to a local restaurant. I still create work in clay, watercolor paintings and several outlets carry my jewelry. In spring and summer i”m in the garden, reading or maybe cooking somethig delicious fpr my friends. In summer i offer my bed and breakfast guests granola with fresh fruit ( some might be from he garden) with Greek yoghurt. Tea and coffee are available and toast and jam or marmalade. In winter I offer slow cooked oatmeal with blueberries and local honey.
