About This Listing
My adobe house was built in 1948 with large ash trees planted around it.This is a traditional New Mexican style home. Adobe keeps it warm in winter and cool in summer
I have created a lovely garden with flowers blooming from spring to the first frosts. There are two patios where guests are welcome to sit and I have a hammock which is easily put up.
My garden is private and quite large. I also offer off street parking.
Though I live in mid-town which is close to everything it is quiet and serene in my house .
It is about a 10 minute drive to Old Town, the historic part of Albuquerque with good restaurants, museums and IMAX theater near by. We have the longest aerial tramway in the world which takes you up to the top of the Sandia Mountains.( Sandia means watermelon in Spanish which describes the wonderful color of the mountains at sunset. I am close to ABQ Uptown, upscale shopping and dining and Apple store. Also nearby is the Nob Hill area on historic Route 66, a lively mix of boutique shops, restaurants and Nightclubs.
There are interesting day trips to the Indian pueblos like Acoma built on the top of a mesa and Madrid which was a coal mining town now revitalized by artists weavers and potters. Madrid is on the scenic Turquoise Trail, the back road to Santa Fe.
Santa Fe itself is a one hour drive on the freeway from Albuquerque and we also have the Rail Runner
Also downtown you can find the Indian Cultural Center and the Hispanic Cultural Center.
In October we have the Balloon Fiesta, the largest hot air ballon event in the world.
No smoking please.
Guests may use the kitchen.
Quiet time after 10pm.
Claire has a beautiful home and gardens. Carefully thought out art pieces throughout the home. Room was very comfortable and home was in a safe neighborhood. I was gone early in the mornings through late in evening so host and I did not interact much. Enjoyed my stay.
Clair was a kind host who offered just the right amount of attention and privacy. Her home is beautiful and the room is comfortable and well-appointed. The shower has great water pressure. I was never too far away from any of the many places I visited in ABQ-- great location! I will definitely consider a stay with her again on what I hope to be many subsequent visits to New Mexico!
My stay with Claire was nothing short of perfection for me. Pictures were exactly as is for room & her home. Claire was a lovely hostess and an interesting person. My flights were delayed and I arrived 1 day late, and she was accommodating re: my travel changes when we thought I may land very late at night, in a new city. Her house is nice and cool inside (temperature wise), which was a relief. Her garden is lovely. Location was great, close to airport & city. Neighborhood was normal residential. I would highly recommend staying with Claire!
Claire was very kind and accommodating of our late check-in. She was very communicative and her advice helped me make a better plan for our new mexico trip. Her place is exactly as described, beautifully decorated and very close to everything. Comfortable bed and bathroom and we used the kitchen too to make our breakfasts. Highly recommend this place for your ABQ stay.
Lovely is such an apt description-both for the home and the host, Claire. We felt at home in this cozy, artful, adobe house and beautiful gardens. Claire is easy going, accessible, offered a great recommendation for dinner and provides the perfect breakfast that can be assembled at your leisure. As an airbnb host myself it was fun to be on the guest end! I picked up some pointers (such as the yogurt, berry, granola breakfast fixings)...
Since we have family nearby the location was perfect for us; we would look forward to returning and recommending this lodging to others. Thank you Claire!
Claire was lovely, she was very quick to respond to any questions I had, as well as she was very accommodating. I was also grateful that Claire was able to host me despite the last minute contact. Thanks so much, and I hope to stay with her again in the future!
About the Host, Claire
I was born in England and lived in the center of London for many years when I was a designer. I had the opportunity to come to the US in the early 80s where I lived in Florida for several years before coming to beautiful New Mexico In 1990. Here I’ve experienced living outside Taos, the North Valley, up in the East Mountains before finding my lovely adobe home in the mid town Albuquerque.
I have made gardens everywhere I’ve lived and during my years in Chimayo I sold the produce from my large and lush garden to a local restaurant.
I still create work in clay, watercolor paintings and several outlets carry my jewelry. In spring and summer i”m in the garden, reading or maybe cooking somethig delicious fpr my friends.
In summer i offer my bed and breakfast guests granola with fresh fruit ( some might be from he garden) with Greek yoghurt. Tea and coffee are available and toast and jam or marmalade.
In winter I offer slow cooked oatmeal with blueberries and local honey.
