The Space

Lovely craftsman family home in heart of urban Los Angeles. Close to museums and 20 minutes to beach. Ten minutes from USC. Ten minutes to Hollywood. Near bus/train and all major freeways. Easy to get anywhere from our home. Front porch good for morning coffee and newspaper. A very diverse and urban neighborhood (this is not suburbia) but with a back yard which hosts fruit trees, grapes and a large vegetable garden.

Best to have a car, though you can get everywhere by bus and train from our house (though it might take a bit longer).

Large, bright, clean and inviting room with TV/DVD/internet access. Comfortable for sleeping. Shared bathroom. Full access to kitchen and laundry room. Access to living room and porches for reading and R & R, or just hanging out and chatting. Suitable for elders, kids, singles, couples, dogs--- no babies or toddlers, though.

As a benefit to actors: I have extensive knowledge of the film industry in Los Angeles and have access to coaches, producers, casting directors.

  • Deirdre's listing was perfect for me and my daughter! The room was spacious and comfortable as it looks. Dierdre made us feel right at home with her hospitality. We enjoyed spending time with her and her kids too. We left feeling like we'd made life long friends. Centrally located so getting to all our appointments was easy. We'll be staying here again when we visit LA!

  • Deirdre is very nice and friendly woman. Her sweet home, children and dogs. There were all the amenities in my room. And also there were many books and DVD for pleasure. There is a bus stop and a large department store near the house . I have only good impressions about Deirdre and her children.

  • Gary and I loved staying at Deirdre's 1906 Craftsman bungalow. Charming and spacious pretty much describes the guest room; the house has a lot of character. The location is super convenient, close to museums downtown and midtown plus the design center in Hollywood. We were a little concerned about sharing one bathroom, but that was unfounded. The street is quiet, the front yard nicely landscaped, and the porches inviting. We really enjoyed meeting the family members and hope to return.

  • Loved, loved, loved staying with Deirdre and her kids (and her charming dog Scout of course!). My boyfriend and I were so comfortable during our stay, you immediately feel like your part of the family. There really isn't anything bad I can say. The house is huge and so is the room. We never felt bothered by noises or that we bothered them. I was skeptical towards the futon at first but it was actually one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. It was a quiet street too, so we slept soundly.

Dierdre has really done a great job raising her kids. They are both so lovely, calm and easygoing. And Dierdre! So wonderful to talk to and you really can't imagine a better host!

We would definitely return :) Thank you for our stay Dierdre!!!

  • I stayed with Deirdre and her family for a month and had a great time there.

Deirdre was always very kind and conscientious about having a guest in the house but never in a way that made me feel uncomfortable or like I was required to do anything particular.
We simply moved through the space able to be busy with our own things, when the children weren't around, and chatting and connecting when we felt to.
In fact it felt very quickly like I became part of the family.

I was able to cook meals there and it was a very central base from which to explore LA with easy access to the i10 freeway.
Though the street we were on was quiet, the local area wasn't that great for cafe's or bars or shopping so I would recommend having a car if you came to stay.

The room I had was huge - like an upstairs lounge.
It had it's own t.v. and Deirdre had a great selection of dvd's that I made my way through in the evenings. There was also a great booklet of maps and pamphlets of things to do while in LA in the room, and little notes around the house to help you find your way around the quirks of interacting with this lovely early 1900's bungalow.
There was only the one bathroom which was fine for the majority of the time, but as with a family, when the kids were there, there were a couple of times when you had to wait. The kids spent half the time with their dad though so often I had the whole house to myself.

I was in LA for business and Deirdre went out of her way to help connect me to people she knew that might've helped me. I ended up meeting with a couple of them for coffee and always felt the people she surrounded herself with were just good people!

I always enjoyed chatting with her, and with her children who were curious and interested in hearing about where I came from and what it was like elsewhere.

If feel comfortable in this kind of family environment I think you would find yourself having a very enjoyable stay here!

  • Dierdre was a wonderful host! Her home is charming and welcoming. The room was spacious and cozy. She is great to person to have a conversation and her children are wonderful. Scout, her dog, is also a joy to have around. I enjoyed my stay here so much and it was so great to meet such a wonderful family. I look forward to keeping in touch with her and referring others to stay with her!

  • It's great to stay with Deirdre and her family! I made a good choice for my first experience with bnb. My son likes her son who is very nice and her very friendly dog. Her children are very polite and friendly. My husband and I like them all! Great family to stay with. Will visit them next time if back to LA.

  • We stayed at Deirdre's place for 3 days and we had a very good time ! The house was clean, the bedroom spacious and cozy. Deirdre is kind and helpful, we have seen her kids just once but they were nice and respectful.
The house is well located, we did everything by bus : Santa Monica, Hollywood boulevard, Griffith park... It takes time because LA is a huge city but it's doable.
