Beautiful apt that is central to everything! Downtown, 6th & Lamar area (Whole Foods, BookPeople+Cafe, Waterloo, Cafe 24, plus tons of boutiques and other restaurants and cafes), UT, the Drag (tons of cafes, restaurants), and 24th St shopping area.
I've seen a lot of cool places but this is the c-o-o-l-e-s-t!!!
This cottage has high ceilings, tons of sunlight and a very creative layout. The red oak floors give everything a nice warm glow and the rooms are furnished relatively sparsely. The whole place feels spacious, cool and comfy.
The living room has a comfortable pillowtop queen-sized bed in the middle of it! You will also find a flat screen tv that is connected to netflix. i usually keep a number of kid's shows, yoga workouts, and other various films queued up or else you can search for other movies on there. It also plays dvds of which i have a few (sorry, no tv stations!)
On the ground floor is my daughter's room. In here there are two beds (bunked). The bottom bed is a double with an extremely comfortable Zen 8" memory foam mattress. The top is a twin size bed with a regular mattress.
By ascending the ladder in the living room, you will be able to enter the loft studio. There's an array of curios up here and a tiny Ikea sofabed if needed for an extra sleeping space (it's TINY and not the comfiest night's sleep but it will do in a pinch!). The rolling ladder brings you to the custom ceiling bookshelf!
This cottage also boasts a very nice kitchen with a garbage disposal, microwave, filtered water spigot, electric kettle, single serve french press and blender. Full servicewear and cookwear included!
Next to the kitchen, there's a corner office area with plenty of light, drawers and leg room. Next to the hydraulic office chair, there is space underneath for your papers, files or briefcase. The countertop is granite and has a finished cutout so you can lead your electronic's wire to the outlet gracefully.
A tiny balcony shoots off from the living room if you need some air and the ample bathroom lives next to my daughter's room. Many things like toothpaste, Q-tips, extra toothbrushes, cotton balls, hair accessories, etc... can be found here.
The cottage is very quiet and is inside of a very quiet community, mostly made up of grad students and professionals. This is the old part of west campus and it is probably the calmest and quietest pocket of west campus.
This location is wonderful because everything is very walkable!
Pease Park is two blocks west...
Whole Foods and BookPeople are one mile south...
Zilker Park and Barton Springs are three miles south...
Downtown is 1.5 miles...
Two blocks over on 24th st, you'll find the coin laundry, Cautro's (best burgers I've ever had!), Sushi Niichi (great lunch specials), The Arab Cowboy (hookah and espresso lounge), Friedman's, Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and a variety of other tiny cheap eats. A few blocks the other way is Subway, Jimmie Johns, Taco Cabana, 7-11, and Chick-Fillet.
Guadalupe St is six blocks east. Here you will find UT, the Dobie Mall, CVS, Veggie Heaven, Cafe Medici, and about a million more cheap and delish places to eat and shop. Go up a little further on the Drag and you'll find Wheatsville (Austin's food co-op), Buffalo Exchange, SpiderHouse Cafe, Tom's Tobouli, Milto's Italian restaurant and the famous Ruby's BBQ.
The #1 and #5 buses can be caught on Guadalupe. They are both very frequent and can take you up and down the "Drag" (Guadalupe) or else over to Sixth St., Town Lake and the South Congress strip, all in less than 15 minutes!
There is also a huge and very convenient convenience store located two blocks away on 22nd :)
There is one designated spot for parking so let me know if you have more than one vehicle.
$500/night during big events (ACL, F1, SXSW)
****disclaimer: The upstairs bedroom is approached by using a ladder. Use of this ladder and therefore this bedroom is not recommended for people with a fear of heights OR for children OR for people that like to get very drunk. (Because if you fell, I would feel very badly. You will be on vacation and you don't want to have an accident on vacation, right?? Right!) I have a couple extra twin size air mattresses which can be placed downstairs so that is a good solution for the drunkles out there or for the phobic or young. :) ****
Everything in the house, a parking spot, a guest parking tag, and a bicycle!
Interaction with Guests
I prefer to check-in my guests personally (if i'm unable to do so, there is a lockbox). otherwise, i live a mile away and am always accessible through text or email.
This neighborhood is very mellow and quiet. It's close to EVERYTHING. Lots of stuff is walkable and it's also close to several buslines. If you are driving all over town a lot it's right in the center of town and right in between the two highways.
Several buslines are close by but most things are walkable.
No open flames indoors.
We stayed at the Scooby Doo house for one month, while my husband was working at the University of Texas. Flip was a great host! She provided us with all the info we needed about shopping, laundry, etc, and she also surprised us with some great breakfast foods.
The apartment is in a great location, and even though we didn't have a car while we were there, we could easily get around on foot and by city bus.
Next time we're in Austin, we will definitely look for one of Flip's properties!
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This was my first airbnb experience, and it was a real delight.
Flip was a very gracious host, including some light snacks in the place before we arrived (much appreciated after our long drive). She was also very responsive in communication.
The Scooby Doo House was as described and the photos do a good job of showing what sort of size you can expect. The beds were all adequately comfortable, though squeezing two people into the bottom bunk was a bit tight. The kitchen is a very nice to have when on vacation and not wanting to eat out for every meal.
The location was great -- walking distance to W 22nd and Guadalupe, plenty of good eats around (Kerbey Lane Cafe was very nice), and easy access to the bus stops at the university campus and a couple of B-cycle stands.
I'd definitely check out the Scooby Doo House again when I come back to Austin.
I flew into Austin with two teenage girls in tow, so they could tour U Texas.
Flip met us at the place. She was great. The place was great, and perfect for a campus visit.
This was my first time in Austinn and really enjoyed myself. Great apt! Totally quirky and unique. Easily accommodates the 5 as suggested. The neighborhood was really quite given how close it is to campus. There were a lot of options within walking distance in terms of food, shopping, etc. Flip was good in responding to any inquiries and instructions on checking in/out were easy. I would highly recommend this place to those visiting Austin.
I loved Flip's place. It has a lot of character. Great location -- short walk through nice neighborhood to campus and all the activity around there. Yet it is very quite and I slept well. Flip was friendly and responsive. I would definitely stay again!
I spent 3 cozy weeks in the Scooby Doo House and enjoyed the location. Near campus and downtown, but on a very quiet, neighborhood-y street. Walkable stores and restaurants nearby. Flip was a great host, very responsive and easy to communicate with – friendly and flexible. If you're looking for a quiet retreat that has lots of cool art plus modern appliances and all the amenities you need, I recommend staying here!

I LOVE AIRBNB! I've been a host and traveler on airbnb for 5 years now and have loved every single person I have met on the way! I started out renting out my own funky places and now I help others rent out their spots too! I only take on properties that i love and feel good about, mostly downtown and SoCo. From Shoestring to Luxury, I'll find you sweet digs!
