Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like! I'm usually in and out of the flat a lot, and I want guests to feel relaxed and at home; I'm always happy to chat and advise but will also naturally respect your privacy.
The flat is centrally located so perfect for getting to all London's attractions, but the street is quiet and very residential - it feels quite tucked away. It's easy to get to pretty much everywhere, and it's a friendly and diverse urban neighbourhood - with lots of lovely green spaces nearby.
Great public transport links - buses, tube and railway stations all just moments away, hire bike racks across the street - and the flat is a fantastic base for walking too.
There are very few house rules - make yourself at home, and just be generally respectful of the flat.
My experience at Karen's home was nothing short of comfortable. She was super patient with me even though my friend and I had several delays making the check in time. She was kind enough to answer all my questions with quick replies and helpful tips to get my way around. The home is close to several restaurants/pubs and the buses so that transportation is easy. The London Eye and Big Ben was only a 5 min taxi drive away. It's even possible to walk back home for those that don't mind it and want to experience the different views from walking back home.
Karen and her daughter made sure we felt at home by allowing us to freely use her kitchen (at 11PM, because we didn't know restaurants closed so early around town). She provided us with towels and wifi was super convenient. Our only regret was that we didn't get to try her breakfast! Hopefully, I'll be able to stay longer in the future! Thank you for your awesome hospitality, Karen!
Karen's flat really was a nice base to explore London, not too far from the Tower and only a few minutes walk from the Subway. The room is a little smaller than it looks in the pictures, but the bed is very comfortable and everything is cutely decorated to make you feel at home. We really appreciated the American converter plug she had in our room and breakfast.
Karen was very welcoming when we arrived and our stay here was overall pleasant, though with a couple catches.
- The place was adorable! Decorated very thoughtfully for a very cozy effect.
- Close to the Elephant & Castle tube stop if you plan to use public transit a lot. We walked everywhere so it was a little out of the way for that, but if you buy an unlimited tube pass it would be perfect.
- The provided breakfast was great - Karen wasn't around for breakfast but we had english muffins and tea for breakfast, which she provided. The convenience of this was wonderful and made our vacation much better!
- Karen also let us use her washing machine and drying rack, this made it much easier for us to pack for our long vacation from the US.
- The apartment was quiet, in a very residential area.
Not so good:
- The bed was definitely not memory foam as advertised - would be fine for a short stay but it was very hard and we had chosen this place above others because of the bed description, so this was a disappointment.
- There were other people in the apartment several times throughout our stay, and we didn't know who they were - mostly kids so not other Airbnb guests but it was somewhat uncomfortable to not know who else would be around or when. We were not sure who lived there in addition to our host and who was just visiting, even though we stayed for a full week. We would not have minded if we had known who else was there - it was the uncertainty that was a bit off-putting!
We enjoyed our stay. The location of the apartment is very convenient, just few minutes from the elephant and castle station to reach all the touristic places in minutes. The room was a little bit small for two but very comfortable and safe. The host was kind and friendly, and made the stay nice. Recommended!
Karen was a lovely host, very calm and easy going. Her place is really cosy, clean, smart and tidy. She had some lovely liquorice tea which made me happy. I felt i really had space a her place to complete some work, eat, rest and relax.
About the Host, Karen
Hello! I was born in London, have been in this flat eleven years, and it is truly the nicest place I've ever lived. I used to travel a lot for work, and always loved finding the stuff the guide books don't tell you. Now I tend to stay home and make the most of this astonishing city - on a budget! I'd be very happy to help you make the most of it too.
