Beautiful garden with a view of the city. The bathroom is shared with the owner, there is a living room and a fully equipped kitchen that you can use. Also possible to rent the whole house when the owner is away.
The veranda and the garden are perfect for relaxing. Lounging chairs are available. And if you are a bird watcher, you will love this place, we have white eyes, speckled mouse birds, chats, lovebirds, bulbuls etc.
There are three dogs in the compound but they are NOT allowed inside the house.
Free laundry services are available ONCE a week (except during severe water shortage periods), but due to cultural norms, the guest are required to wash their own underwear :-)
Bed sheets, towels and soap are provided.
In the rainy season (2nd half of June, July, August and 1st two weeks of September) it can take a while for clothes to dry, up to several days.
The house is off the main road, on a hill. About 5-10 minutes walk from the main road (faster on the way down the hill)
Local minibuses to Arat Kilo, Piassa, and the other way to Shola and Meganegna are available regularly. After 9 pm it is advisable to return with a contract taxi for safety reasons, especially if you are carrying valuables.
A reliable and reasonably priced contract taxi is available in the neighbourhood.
Airport pick ups can be arranged at extra cost of 15 dollars with a reliable local company (arrivals possible from 6am until 10pm - if your flight is arriving late at night I suggest you book a guest house room for the first night and arrange a pick up with them, I can advise you on reasonably priced guest houses in town ). Consult with me about check in time at least a day before arrival.
Random taxi from airport is also possible, but unless you have very good bargaining skills you'll pay at least 20 dollars and they will struggle to find the house.
Local shops are available at the bottom of the road and a house guard can be sent to do your basic shopping for you at no extra cost.
The neighbourhood is safe and friendly.
the owner is a seasoned Ethiopia traveler and can provide information about traveling around the country. Bradt and Lonely planet Ethiopia and Somaliland guidebooks are available (not the latest editions though). Guidebooks and other books can be borrowed from the house, but please return them for other guests.
Local food can be prepared if ordered in advance.
We can arrange an Ethiopian coffee ceremony in the garden for no extra cost (only on weekday and between 10am and 2 pm and only during dry season.)
I can help arranging local SIM card, if told well in advance.
Internet access with a wifi router is available, but at extra cost, as internet is very expensive in Addis. Charge cards are used, so you can pay as you go. Expect to pay at least 5 dollars a day, for basic e-mail and browsing use. Also, very important: I CANNOT guarantee internet will be working at all times as it is extremely unreliable.
There are hotels near by where you can browse the internet for free (or at a cost of a drink).
Kitchen has a gas stove. All pots and pans, cutlery, dishes, etc you may need. Fridge with a freezer compartment.
You can help yourself to food on your first morning, then please buy your own groceries. When leaving inform me of the things you're leaving behind in the kitchen or in the fridge.
You can use the whole house except my bedroom.
Bathroom is shared, so kindly clean up after yourself.

I stayed with Liza for more than three weeks in June 2015 while looking for a place of my own in Addis. Liza is a kind, generous and very professional host. Guestroom and kitchen are well equipped, rules of sharing are clearly set out and support from her maid and guard is very helpful especially when she is away.
Liza's house is steep on a hill in a nice, green neighbourhood in a green and safe part of Addis. It is conveniently located for most parts of the city, and traffic is not too bad even in the busy hours of the morning and evening. Although it is not far from the main road, the last bit of the road up to the house is very steep and not all cars can make it, so look for a strong taxi (if available) or call the guard to meet you for safety when you walk home after dark. There are small shops at the bottom of the road that provide everything you need from fruit, excellent bread, milk, even wine... No need really to drive to the lare supermarkets unless you want imported goods. The house itself is small but well equipped (Liza is a genius at storing a lot of things in a small space), tastefully furnished with African furniture and works of art, the kitchen has everything that is needed and the garden is lovely indeed. The bathroom is rather basic but always spotlessly clean as is the rest of the house. The room is a good size for one, with desk and a shelf for storage and some hangers on the door. When my husband came for a few days we put in an extra mattrass, which worked fine as well. To be happy at Liza's, you should like dogs. She has three of them. They are pretty, lively, very friendly and always keen on a treat and a cuddle. You will occasionally hear them bark at night (they are supposed to watch outside as in most houses in Addis), but Liza even provides earplugs if needed.
Liza herself is an excellent resource on life and travel in Addis and Ethiopia, and she has a lot of useful contacts, sharing all of this freely. She communicates very well, responds quickly to emails and gets in touch quickly when you need to contact her even when she is not in Addis.
I greatly enjoyed my stay at Liza's and I can truly recommend her place.
Staying at Liza's was a real home away from home in Addis. The house is in a lovely green part of the city but easily accessible by taxi, minibus or walking. The room was a good size and fine for two to share, and there is a well equipped kitchen, large sitting room and the best bit of all - a lovely garden to sit in. Liza was very friendly and helpful and gave us loads of advice for settling into Addis and finding our own place.
We loved staying at Liza's wonderful house, highly recommended! Liza's house is situated at a slope close to the British embassy in a practical location with a great view over the city. Liza communicated really fast even though she wasn't around. Also she gave us a lot of great information about Addis, restaurants and Ethiopian culture in general. A bonus to Liza for giving us fair trade soap and hand woven Ethiopian towels :) Would definitely come back!
Staying at Liza's house has been great! Her place is very cozy and has a beautiful garden. The house is located in a nice and central part of town with small shops close by (fruit and vegetables). Also very easy to hop on a minibus or taxi in the area and get around town. Or even walk, depending on your destination.
Living with Liza felt like staying at a friends house. She is a very warm-hearted, lovely person! She provided me with advise about where, what, when and how to get around in Addis. She knows everything and is helping out where she can. We even went to yoga class together and to an art fair: fun!
My next stay in Addis Ababa will definitely be at Liza's again because I felt very much at home. :-) I highly recommend her place for a nice and relaxed stay in a vibrant city :-)
I enjoyes staying at liza's home. She has a friendly personality, she's being helpful and open-minded. She tought me about everyday life in ethiopia and gave me some good advices. The house is lovely and has everything you need, a place where you can calm down. I absolutely recommend her.
I really enjoyed staying with Liza. Her house is perched up on a hill in pleasant neighborhood that is, for Addis, especially quiet. Liza has been in Ethiopia for a while and has a wealth of knowledge about both Addis and Ethiopia more broadly.
The house has all the amenities you need for that home away from home feel. The room itself is nicely appointed with a comfortable bed, a desk and nightstand.
All and all, you can't go wrong. Liza is a great resource, the house is in a good location, and you have three dogs to keep you company! Hard to ask for more.
