Come experience typical Andean village life in this small picturesque town, located mid-way between the city of Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Huarocondo is an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature, with quiet evenings and many trails and roads to hike
Why just visit a local village when you can stay in one
GringoWasi is set in a truly typical Andean village, just 30 minutes outside of Cusco, which as yet, has not been influenced by tourism. In our town of Huarocondo life goes on much as it has for the last 100 years, family’s take their animals out to the fields in the morning and bring them back in in the evening, many of the locals still cook over wood fires, and many of the fields are still plowed by pulling wooden plows with bulls, or even by hand. In the spring you will see fields being planted and in the fall it is harvest time, festivals are also common and are held to celebrate life and to pay respect to the various Saints and Virgins, and not to impress the tourists.
The people of Huarocondo are also very friendly, being a small community everyone knows everyone else and even our guests are considered to be part of the community while they are here, on one occasion we even had a couple report that they were invited into a wedding reception and fed lunch, even though they were foreigners. We have had guests join locals in doing their daily duties like separating Quinoa from the chaff and we are still close enough to many of the archeological sites to be a convenient home base to explore the area.
We work with a local tour agency and several drivers so we can easily arrange tours, either group or private and our area offers a variety of trails and roads to hike. Hikes in the area can range from easy and flat to all uphill, and there are even a few archeological sites you can hike to.
So if you are looking for a truly unspoiled local town to use as a home base, as a place to acclimate before doing a trek, or just to relax and unwind after a trek, this is the place. You won’t find any tourist items here, no souvenir stands or shops, just local stores and shops selling what the people of Huarocondo need, but don’t just take our word for it, here are a few samples of some Trip Advisor review that past guests have left.
“Huarocondo isn`t at all touristy and it was good to sit in the square eating the roast pork it´s famed for while watching village life go by”
“Huarocondo is a beautiful town, traditional and quiet, the sort of place you need if you want to check out what life in the Andes is really like”
“Huarocondo is not Cusco, but that's a good thing as it is unspoiled by trappings of a tourist town”
“The town of Huarocondo was relaxing. It was interesting to see a small town that wasn't touched by tourism”
Currently we are the only lodging available in Huarocondo and with only 5 rooms, we have created little impact on the local community, as such everything you will experience here is truly authentic, add to this the picturesque scenery and the quiet evenings and it is the perfect place to call home while visiting the Cusco region.
So book now, come and experience true local Andean life and join our ever expanding family, which currently encompasses 50 countries. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Interaction with Guests
We live here at the property so you will most likely see us a lot, we always try and have dinner at the same time so that any guests wanting to, can join us for dinner. Breakfasts are a little different as, different guests need to leave at different times, depending on their schedules. Additionally, anytime we are not away transporting or taking guests on tours, we are here at the property.
Huarocondo is a small rural town set in an agricultural valley, located mid-way between Cusco and the Sacred Valley, with the main attraction being the beauty, peace and tranquility. There are plenty of roads and trails for hiking and the largest lake in the Cusco region is just 11.5 km to the North East. Additionally there are two archeological sites close by, Andenes Zurite which is 5.6 km to the south and the trail to Wata is 5.5 km to the North West. The property is located just one block from the Huarocondo main Plaza where you can sample the local specialty of lechon or roast pig, and there is also a large colonial church on the main plaza that houses several paintings, that we have been told, are more valuable than the ones in the cathedral in Cusco.
There are a few options for transportation in and out of town, depending on where you want to go. The first and easiest is for us to arrange a car and driver for you; this can be almost any time of day or night, and services range from basic transportation to full day tours.
There is also public transportation available in and out of town by either colectivos or buses. These start about 5:30am and will continue until either 6:30pm or 9:00pm depending on the route.

Absolutely wonderful stay with Lyle & Lily! They were so helpful and attentive to any needs. Very professional with how they run everything, yet at the same time having a real 'homely' feel—they were kind of like a mum and dad away from home :)
I left a book in my room after I checked out and they were so kind to drop it off in Cusco for me.
our stay with lyle and lily was lovely. huarocondo is a sweet and quiet little out of the way town, with easy access to other places if you want. the breakfasts and dinners were delicious, and lyle and lily were very helpful with providing transportation and and answering lots of our questions. thank you so much for everything!
Staying with Lyle and Lilly was easier than staying with a family member. Before our trip Lyle was very accommodating in helping us get some of the other details of our trip figured out. He went out of his way to book our Inka trail trip and we greatly appreciated that. Once in Peru both Lyle and Lilly made us feel welcome, safe and informed the entire trip. Between taxiing us around, giving us tips, and allowing us to store our luggage they took almost all the stress out of travelling in South America for the first time. Their place is located in a very small town which gave us a more authentic view of life in Peru. While it is small there is enough to do and try there and even though it is a little over an hour to Cuzco it is very easy to get to using the public transportation ($4 total). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bnb to anyone looking to experience Peru away from all the crowds of tourists. Thank you for making our stay so great.
This was one of the best places to stay and the most comfortable of all. I would highly recommend staying longer then a few days. A bit away from things but easy to get around from the small town. The hosts were very helpful and easy with everything. I would go there again. Planning next year to stay longer and bring friends. Thanks much. Electrum
Met at bus and even stopped at a local market not in guidebooks on the way home because we wanted to do that. Lyle and Lily make a study of how to be the best hosts from little things like a layout of teas and drinking water accessible at all times to big things like arranging taxi tours and hotel stays. homemade typical dinner with all the guests is not to be missed and happens every night. Lily runs a tight ship but a very cozy welcoming stay...super clean, super functional...Lyle has made this beautiful old hostal in tip top shape and you never run out of hot water or plugs that work.
the town of Huaronco is charming...don't miss the glorious colonial church in the square. you do have to go to Izuachaca to get most places but we found it easy. L&L can arrange drivers for
