Whether you are looking for an all-inclusive package, lodging in a typical village, are interested in escaping the tourist vibe or if you just want a quiet place to relax after a trek, this is it. In our quiet town of Huarocondo you will enjoy peaceful nights, and beautiful scenery, Huarocondo is the perfect place for relaxing after a long day of exploring sites, and you can even sit in the main plaza without the worry of being bothered by venders selling souvenirs. If relaxing is not your thing then you can take advantage of our rural location and explore the many trails around town, some of which wind through fields of choclo, potatoes, abas or quinoa. You can get a work-out hiking up one of the local mountains, or take a leisurely stroll to the local Incan terraces close to Zurite. If you are interested in seeing the many archeological sites in the region, don’t worry, we can arrange tours or transportation to any place you may be interested in from Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley to the lesser visited sites like Tipon and Pikillacta. We can also arrange transportation to and from Cusco if needed and public transportation is readily available, for those preferring to get around on their own.

Interaction with Guests
We live here at the property so you will most likely see us a lot, we always try and have dinner at the same time so that any guests wanting to, can join us for dinner. Breakfasts are a little different as, different guests need to leave at different times, depending on their schedules. Additionally, anytime we are not away transporting or taking guests on tours, we are here at the property.
Huarocondo is a small rural town set in an agricultural valley, located mid-way between Cusco and the Sacred Valley, with the main attraction being the beauty, peace and tranquility. There are plenty of roads and trails for hiking and the largest lake in the Cusco region is just 11.5 km to the North East. Additionally there are two archeological sites close by, Andenes Zurite which is 5.6 km to the south and the trail to Wata is 5.5 km to the North West. The property is located just one block from the Huarocondo main Plaza where you can sample the local specialty of lechon or roast pig, and there is also a large colonial church on the main plaza that houses several paintings, that we have been told, are more valuable than the ones in the cathedral in Cusco.
There are a few options for transportation in and out of town, depending on where you want to go. The first and easiest is for us to arrange a car and driver for you; this can be almost any time of day or night, and services range from basic transportation to full day tours.
There is also public transportation available in and out of town by either colectivos or buses. These start about 5:30am and will continue until either 6:30pm or 9:00pm depending on the route.
Other Things to Note
Our goal here at GringoWasi is that you to enjoy your vacation to the fullest, if you have any questions or need something, please don’t hesitate to ask. Just because we don’t “offer” something, doesn’t mean it is not within our ability to provide. We do our best to anticipate our guest’s needs but not all guests are the same, so don’t be afraid to ask.
We also send out a list of travel tips and other useful information after you have booked, sometimes this information will end up in your junk folder, so if you have booked with us, please check your junk folder after making the booking for additional information.
At GringoWasi our guests comfort and enjoyment is our primary concern, with this in mind, please consider the following policies when planning to stay with us.
1.Smoking: Our property is completely smoke free, we value our guest health and due to the configuration of the property, smoke produced even on the patio tends to get into all the rooms, for this reason we ask that if you need to smoke, please step outside the property.
2.Payment: We accept two forms of payment here at the property. Visa cards are accepted and will be subject to a 6% fee. We also accept cash, either US Dollars, Euros or Peruvian Nuevo Soles.
3.Check-in: While our standard check-in hours are 2pm to 9pm, we can usually accommodate earlier and/or later check-ins, if we are notified in advance.
4.Check-out: We ask that all guests have their room cleared out by 12pm (noon) for cleaning. Late check-outs may be available upon request.
5.Quiet Time: In an effort to ensure all of our guests have a good night’s sleep, we ask that guests respect a quiet time between the hours of 10pm and 8am
Lyle and Lili were very helpful with everything, trips, sites recommendations and guide tours. The village is not close to Cuzco but everything around the region takes travel time that you need to consider. Great getaway!
If you're looking for a place that's a cross between the typical AirBNB (as in, living in someone's flat/home) and an actual B&B, whilst staying away from Cusco itself - GringoWasi is your best bet.
With my airport pick up was a short tour of Cusco and even a detour for lunch as per my request - no extra charge or anything. Both hosts are very personable and I had very good chats with Lyle over our meals.
On Room 2:
- shared bathroom (although it's right beside the room and I was alone during my trip, so I didn't mind) - this may change soon, I believe
- right next to the street so I was woken up by the sound of donkeys and cars and chatter, wear earplugs if you want to stay in
- very big and worth the price, Direct TV a huge plus if you've been traveling and "zoning out"
Expectations weren't met at a bike tour that I booked through GringoWasi and Lyle was quick to rectify the situation - which I really appreciated.
Overall I'd recommend GringoWasi for those who want to be away from Cusco proper (the town is closer to some popular sites) and hardly want to deal with researching + arranging things yourself. Prices could be steeper as they're booking everything for you and all are rated in USD - this bothered me towards the end upon finding out actual prices, but my trip was also done on a whim. If the latter don't bother you, this is the place then.
Thanks Penny, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay and again we apologize for the bike tour, after your report we are looking for a new agency that can offer a higher level of service. We hope that you have a good trip home and look forward to seeing you again on a future trip.
Hello my experience at GringoWasi was very unique I had a great time Lyle and Lilly were very welcoming and made me feel at home the entire time I was there, love the hot spring or thermal bath I would like to do that again, Lyle thanks for all your help and Lilly the Choffa rice you made was very delicious you rock.
Lyle and Lily made me feel extrememly welcome. The room was huge and light and the bed very comfortable. It was quite entertaining listening to the country sounds in the morning as the animals passed below on their way to the fields!
Huaracondo is a typical small town, where you will be the only tourist. It is very easy to get a collectivo into Izcuchacha and beyond. It is also well known for its lechon or roast pig which is sold in the plaza and definitely worth trying.
Lyle and her husband are the best host! I went to Peru with little planning and they helped me on literally everything, from picking me up in the airport to schedule bungee jumping lol. The town is very nice and not touristy, but also close to Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Clean and spacious room. Thanks you really made my trip to Peru more enjoyable!
Gringo Wasi is a great place to stay at when you're in the Cusco/Machu Picchu/Sacred Valley area. Since these places are very crowded with tourists, we appreciated staying in Huaracondo, a village without a single souvenir shop.
Our room was very big; bathroom etc were very clean. Breakfast was good. You can optionally join Lyle and Lilli for dinner (4 USD).
Lyle and Lilli are very friendly and offer pick-ups from airport/station. They also help booking tours to the above mentioned sights.
We highly recommend Gringo Wasi!
