If relaxing is not your thing then you can take advantage of our rural location and explore the many trails around town, some of which wind through fields of choclo, potatoes, abas or quinoa. You can get a work-out hiking up one of the local mountains, or take a leisurely stroll to the local Incan terraces close to Zurite. If you are interested in seeing the many archaeological sites in the region, don’t worry, we can arrange tours or transportation to any place you may be interested in from Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley to the lesser visited sites like Tipon and Pikillacta. Guest access

Guests will have access to the main/shared room where we have areas for sitting and relaxing as well as a TV/DVD and laptop computer. Guests also have 24 hour access to the dining room, with access to filtered drinking water coffee and tea.

Interaction with guests

We live here at the property so you will most likely see us a lot, we always try and have dinner at the same time so that any guests wanting to, can join us for dinner. Breakfasts are a little different as, different guests need to leave at different times, depending on their schedules. Additionally, anytime we are not away transporting or taking guests on tours, we are here at the property.

The neighborhood

Huarocondo is a small rural town set in an agricultural valley, located mid-way between Cusco and the Sacred Valley, with the main attraction being the beauty, peace and tranquility. There are plenty of roads and trails for hiking and the largest lake in the Cusco region is just 11.5 km to the North East. Additionally there are two archeological sites close by, Andenes Zurite which is 5.6 km to the south and the trail to Wata is 5.5 km to the North West. The property is located just one block from the Huarocondo main Plaza where you can sample the local specialty of lechon or roast pig, and there is also a large colonial church on the main plaza that houses several paintings, that we have been told, are more valuable than the ones in the cathedral in Cusco.

Getting around

There are a few options for transportation in and out of town, depending on where you want to go. The first and easiest is for us to arrange a car and driver for you; this can be almost any time of day or night, and services range from basic transportation to full day tours.

There is also public transportation available in and out of town by either colectivos or buses. These start about 5:30am and will continue until either 6:30pm or 9:00pm depending on the route.

Other things to note

Our goal here at GringoWasi is that you to enjoy your vacation to the fullest, if you have any questions or need something, please don’t hesitate to ask. Just because we don’t “offer” something, doesn’t mean it is not within our ability to provide. We do our best to anticipate our guest’s needs but not all guests are the same, so don’t be afraid to ask.

We also send out a list of travel tips and other useful information after you have booked, sometimes this information will end up in your junk folder, so if you have booked with us, please check your junk folder after making the booking for additional information.

Lyle and Lily were extremely hospitable hosts even before my booking even started. They made suggestions for transportation, offered to pick me up at the airport, and even offered to contact my tour agency to have them pick me up from their place to go on my trek. Throughout my stay, I enjoyed daily breakfast and dinner at a very affordable price. They made my stay comfortable and hassle through giving directions and driving me to places so that I didn't have to worry about a thing. Even after I left and was no longer under their booking, they arranged for a taxi to pick me up from the Lima airport and take me to my next accommodation. The price was extremely cheap compared to any other taxi I could find. Hands down, I would not hesitate to book with them again. They took very good care of you. Thank you again Lyle and Lily.

Lyle and Lily were wonderful hosts and their location was in a nice small and true Peruvian town that seemed untouched and out of the way of tourists. Lyle helped make the bookings for our train and machupichu tickets also offered to pick us up at the airport for a small fee and gave lots of great advice on how to get around and things to try. There was hot water they cooked meals and was a very reasonable price. Would recommend for a quiet couple or person that would like to be out of the way from the tourist towns but still be around other guests staying at GringoWasi as it is a well set up and comfortable social setting. Thanks again Lyle and Lily!

My fiance and myself stayed at the GringoWasi for three days prior to visiting Machu Picchu and we can only strongly recommend Lyle and Lilly's peaceful place. The bed and breakfast is situated a little out of Cusco in the little village of Huarocondo. The village was very picturesque and It was great to experience the Peruvian culture a little outside of the bustling Cusco city. For instance it was wonderful just walking around the surrounding hills between the corn fields and enjoy the sun and the amazing views. Lyle and Lilly were both wonderful and accomodating. When my fiance came down with altitude sickness for a while, we felt safe and taken care of. Looking back at our trip, no other place we visited was as caring, homely and helpful. We can only strongly recommend staying at GringoWasi. Peru is an amazing place, and GringoWasi did its part to allow us to experience it to the full extend. Enjoy!!

We are so grateful for our stay at GringoWasi. Lyle personally collected us from the airport and Lily arranged all of our travel and tickets for Machu Picchu. Huarocondo is a quiet little village where it is easy to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Cusco proper. We found the rooms comfortable and cozy, although the floors are very thin and do not offer much in the way of sound insulation. Lyle is aware of this and mentioned he will fix it in the future. We enjoyed the Christmas dinner together and would recommend Gringowasi to fellow travelers looking to get off the tourist trap highway :-)

Thanks guys, we enjoyed having you here and are glad that you enjoyed the Christmas dinner. While I am not sure when we will get some sound dampening in, it is on the list.

Best decision was staying here. Lyle and Lily were phenomenal to say the least. They are super receptive and helpful. Prior to our trip there (even before booking), Lyle provided so much useful and unbiased information. This cute B&B is in Huaracondo (about 30min from Cusco), so we had to catch a "collectivo/bus" to and from almost everyday, but we didn't mind it (think speaking Spanish helps). If you don't like going back and forth (it's fun for few days, but can get tiring after a while) or mind people mildly invading your personal space (they pack cars/bus with as many as they can fit), then it may not work for you, but this was all part of the experience my sister and I enjoy...get a feel for the everyday life of the native people there. I had a great experience. I stayed just a little over a week (minus the Machu Picchu days) and have no regrets. Lyle and Lily provide a safe, clean environment making you feel right at home (free wifi, cable tv, blowdryer, hot water, meals, good company). I will stay there next time I visit (that's if they still have rooms available once the word gets out that this is the coolest place to stay). I will recommend it to all my fellow travelers visiting Peru, Cusco, Machu Picchu. By the way, if you are concerned about hot water, this room (Room 4) and I believe two others have hot water. I stayed in Room 2 for a night and the water was a bit chilly. They hope to upgrade in the future so that all rooms have hot water and heat...yay! The rooms can get cold, but under those blankets I was sweating. Maybe a small room heater can do the trick for those early morning wake-ups. Let's see, what else can I say. It's safe. Completely trusted leaving my belongings (luggage) there. Not much to do there in Huaracondo (no restaurants or nightlife if that is what you are looking quiet (which we liked), but also safe and clean. (people are nice)...you will pretty much be the only tourists there. For those of you who are on a budget, speak spanish, and don't mind public all the touristy stuff on your own so you are not rushed and can be more flexible with your time (if your itinerary permits). As for MP we booked through the agency, left to Aguascalientes 8/26, went to MP 8/29 and spend another night in Aguascalientes, and left the next day 8/29 (sure you can do everything in one day or even two, but we are so glad we did it this way). As for the altitude we didn't experience any sickness (took medicine for it, bring some pepto and antiacid). If I forgot to add anything, I will put in on my review for room 2. In summary, gringowasi is HIGHLY recommended.. Thanks Lyle and Lily....you are always welcome here in Los Angeles!!! Until next...

My wife and I have enjoyed traveling for many years and have visited a lot of places around the world, recently we decided to enter the hospitality side and open our own bed and breakfast in Cusco. Being seasoned travelers, we know the value of a comfortable and quiet place to rest, at GringoWasi we and are dedicated to ensuring our guests are well rested and ready for their next day of exploring.
