The Space

Hello,

I am 26 years old female, graduated from Bogazici University.

My flat is in Sisli, center of the city, which is a convenient district very close to Taksim Square, the center of attraction and nightlife in (website hidden)'s 1 metro stations away from it and if you prefer walking, it takes about 35 minutes to get there. There are also many buses and it will take around 10 minutes to Taksim. By cab it's just 5-10 minutes and costs around 8-12 Liras.

From the flat: 2 minutes walk to bus stations, 2 minutes to Radisson Blu, Marriot Hotels. 7 minutes to metro station, 7 min to Cevahir shopping mall(biggest mall of Europe), 8 min to Metrobus Trump Towers and 5 min to Cevahir Hotel and close to Lutfi Kırdar Congress Center.

Easy to access to touristic areas of Istanbul. There are direct buses to Eminonu where you can pass to Sultanahmet for sightseeing.

It's also close to Nisantasi, (15 minutes walk) a chic, famous neighborhood for shopping and dining.

It takes one bus to go to the sea coast, Bosphorus and enjoy the nice weather.

Shopping and transportation is really easy in the (website hidden) neighborhood is very central, safe and full of small shops, cafes, restaurants vegetable and fruit shops, fresh fish stores which you can get cooked fish as well. There are exchange offices too. It is a very lively neighborhood but at the same time quiet in the evening. It is a local neighborhood but at the same time there are big fancy hotels nearby because it is central.

It is a safe place.

It has 2 bedrooms, 1 common living room, 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom and a balcony.

It's a new, cute and small flat, nicely decorated.

The room has a wardrobe, bed, desk, chair.

There is a single bed in the room (There are 2 single beds on top of each other. So when you put one bed down, 2 people can comfortably sleep in the same room.) If you want, I can host max. 4 people at the same time in 2 rooms with a discount. Ask me the details please.

The flat is on the 3rd floor and all rooms and kitchen are sunny. There is elevator so no problem if you have heavy luggage.

**There is an unlimited wireless internet connection, Cable tv, DVD player, refrigerator, washing machine, dish washer, oven, cooker, kitchen appliances, everything you need.. :)

**There's 24/7 hot water and heating by natural gas combi.

**Clean sheets, towels and blankets will be provided.

**Breakfast with cereal and tea/coffee is provided. Other than that, you can feel free to use the fridge and kitchen tools to keep and make your own food at any time.

**Istanbulcard- transportation card- I will give it to you.

I am easy to live with:) I speak Turkish, English and a little Spanish.

I have maps and guide books that you can use during your trip.

I can give recommendations about your trip and will be glad to help you with it.
I will be happy to welcome you, if you want to feel the local Turkish life and close to the touristic areas...

best wishes,

Ceylan

  • This is a difficult review to write. I have no hard feelings toward Ceylan, but I feel a great sense of responsibility to be honest and impartial so that other travelers to this fascinating city can be properly informed.
While the location is great (easy access to buses, neighborhood services, markets and restaurants) the apartment itself leaves much to be desired.
The bed is old and soft and didn't offer a top sheet. This means you're sleeping with the bedspread used by the last guest on your skin. The room has no place to either hang or store folded clothes as Ceylan has filled every area with her personal belongings.
The hall, living room, bathroom and kitchen are cluttered and very dirty. The bathroom in particular is a complete disaster. Dirt and mold everywhere. The shower, toilet base and floor look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks, maybe months. The mold in and around the shower make one hesitant to use the shower, you don't really feel like you can get clean in that environment. Mold is not only unsanitary, it's a health hazard. Granted, there is no venting in the bathroom, so it stays moist in there, but a good cleaning, bleach, and a small fan would provide a big improvement.
I know everyone doesn't enjoy cleaning, but I feel that the bathroom really needs to be useable, hire a cleaning service if it's not something you want to do. Overall the entire apartment looks like Ceylan doesn't take any time to provide or prepare for her guests. The nights I was there, she was sleeping on the couch and her bedding was all over the living room. She insists that you take your shoes off in the apartment but I can't imagine why as the place is already filthy.
As far as being a hostess, I found Ceylan to be polite but distant. She never offered any help or advice and had to be asked about the bus, market, and restaurants. She does have a nice Lonely Planet guide from last year, but the map has been removed so you'll need to get your own.
Overall, it's a place that you feel is being offered for the income, but I never got the sense the Ceylan enjoys hosting or meeting/interacting with her guests. She offered me an additional night when I inquired about its availability, but the booked it to another guest without letting me know. She couldn't offer me any help or suggestions on locating another place to stay for my final night in Istanbul- so I ended up paying more that 100€ to leave on an earlier flight.
What can I say? Istanbul is amazing, but I can't recommend staying with Ceylan.

  • I had a very nice time staying at Ceylan's flat for the week I was in Istanbul. Her directions made it clear how to get there from the airport and she had a backup plan for me to pick up a key from a nearby restaurant, which was vital for when I arrived late due to road closures around the city. The apartment was just as I expected from the listing and I always felt safe walking around the neighborhood, even late at night. Ceylan also lent me an Istanbulkart which made it very easy to get around with public transportation. This was my first time using Airbnb and visiting Istanbul, so I was very relieved she provided a nice experience for me. I'd love to visit again!

  • Ceylan, made us feel home in Istanbul instantly. We are for sure coming back. The appartment is cosy and fairly priced. Enjoy your stay!

  • Ceylan is a friendly host; I enjoy with her company during the days in Istanbul. Her apartment is clean and well located. You can find good food near her place and also go Cevahir shopping mall after you daily tour. The tips of making a good Turkish coffee are the bonus that Ceylan gave to me.

  • Everything was ok. Ceylan is friendly and a helpful host. Thank you

  • My stay with Ceylan was regrettably far too short but it was absolutely wonderful in every other way!

Ceylan was organised and communicative ahead of my arrival and gave me explicit instructions for how to reach her place, which was immaculately clean, incredibly comfortable and well-stocked with lots of maps, guide brouchures, etc. as well as an Istanbulcard for me to use on the metro/public transit.

I did not have a lot of time to chat with Ceylan but in the time we did have she was very friendly and easy going.

Overall, very enjoyable, convenient, welcoming place in an absolutely amazing city - highly recommend!

  • Ceylan's apartment is conveniently located at Sisli Camii, quite near Taksim. There are many bus stops at Sisli Camii, which can take you to Taksim, Eminonu or other tourism destination or connecting stops in 30 min. Ceylan lend me a transportation card that can be used on bus, tram and metro. Actually the card is probably the only way to pay for fares.

This is a 2B2B apartment on the 2nd floor (1st floor in British English) and located on a hillside. Ceylan is very knowledgeable about Istanbul and she can help you to make plans for traveling around.

Like Ceylan, people in Istanbul are very warm and never hesitate to help you. When I arrived at Ceylan's apartment building, she was still at work. Her neighbor kindly let me in and called Ceylan for me, even though that gentleman barely speaks English. When I left for airport, I needed to take the bus to the meeting point of shuttle bus. I didn't find a place to buy a bus ticket and so asked a young mom on the street for directions. She went out of her way to help me. She swiped her card for me and told the driver to drop me off at the right bus stop. I really appreciate all the help and warmth from these local people.

But, you absolutely should be careful with taxi drivers. It's full of overcharge and scams, like money swap ((website hidden) it). I'd recommend you avoid taxi if you don't speak Turkish.

  • Ceylan is friendly and a helpful host. She offered several local guides books and maps to use to me. Her apartment is well located, 1 min to Sisli Mosque and 5 min to Cevahir AVM on foot, also her apartment is very quiet.

  • I stayed with Ceylan for only one night as I had a stopover in Istanbul but I will surely return to Istanbul and stay at her apartment again.
The communication with her has been very good from the beginning and she has been very nice giving me tips about the city and what to see (including sharing her maps and guides with me). The room was clean, comfortable and decently sized as the rest of the apartment.
