Close enough to Las Terrenas. Pascal is a friendly and simple gent. Room is brilliantly basic. I had two very restful nights.
This accommodation is as advertised. It is a nice, clean property in a beautiful tropical garden. The location is ideal for exploring the area. It is safe (tucked away) and the setting gorgeous.
The roosters in the area (something hard to escape the sound of in rural Dominican Republic) are the only concerns I would mention to anyone who isn't a deep sleeper. I have a sleeping challenge and would wake up at the slightest sound...which should be considered. I only had between 3.5 and 6 hours sleep -over a seven night period - because of the roosters (one in particular) that was so loud that I honestly don't think that anyone not accustomed to those conditions could sleep through. I also used special earplugs every night. It is far, far louder than any alarm clock I have ever heard. The sound is piercing. It starts (like clockwork) most mornings at about 4 am and doesn't stop until about 6 am. Roosters aside, it's a great price for such a nice place.
For those with rented cars of motorcycles, it isn't a concern, but for those without rented vehicles, it will cost $2.50 to get a motoconcho (a motorbike taxi) into town...so you can add on $5 ($US) a day to get to the closest town and back. The wait time is almost zero and they are very good.
Wonderful, relaxing retreat in the forest. Close enough to town to access beaches, etc but also far enough away where you feel secluded. I got around fine just hiring moto taxis to take me back and forth. The room was different than the picture, but fine none the less. Bed was comfortable but you must be mindful of the Mosquitos. Pascal was a nice host and answered any questions that I had. Basic Spanish or French is necessary as he does not speak much English. Great room for backpackers.
Pascal is very nice, helpful and available.
The room is clean and cosy.
Adventurers: this room is made for you!
We stayed in the extra room, which is in it's own building: kind of like a bungalow, just not kitchen or living room space. The ceiling fan helped keep it cool at night; the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was good-hot water shower. We liked Pascal's "open-door" policy: if there is a door, it's open, though some people may not like that. He was a good host: treated us to some French wine upon arrival and let us know where to go for things, such as a horseback riding excursion to waterfall in Limon.
Very nice stay! I planned one night and stayed eight.Pascal is a very carrying host and will explain and share everything with you.
Just do it!
We are Sigrun and Harald, an elderly couple from Germany. We spend four days in Chambre dans un jardin tropical, which really deserves this name. We had some difficulties to find it. You must know that it is in Las Terrenas and we did not have the right telephone number.
But it is very nice to live high up in the trees, and in the quiet nature, all carpented by Pascal. It’s a nice department, it is cozy even in the moments of tropical rain falls, when the drops drum on your roof. In order to go the center of Las Terrenas you can rent a scooter from Pascal, or you do as we did: we took rides on scooters that are always available. Pascal, an interesting Frenchman, gave us a warm welcome, a French aperitif. He was friendly and helpful and we felt very safe. We appreciate that he guarded his distance so that we had our private space. We really enjoyed the stay in that place and if we ever come back to the Dominican Republic, the Chambre dans un jardin tropical would be first choice. To those who try this experience, we recommend walks uphill into the landscape with their many friendly peasants. You can be sure to meet no tourist there.
Pascal is very nice, and has insisted several times on inviting us for a drink or for dinner (he's french, so are we, this might have helped...).
He's built his own house, a bungalow and an additional room (all three separated from one another, but only by 10 or 15 meters), and rents the bungalow (which was occupied) and the room (which we rented).
The room is small and contains only a large bed and a TV. It has its private bathroom, not very classy but sufficient. The only problem we had was that mosquitos invade the place as soon as the night comes. Just buy some mosquito repeller (something that burns and spreads repeller all night long), it's very efficient.
