Old world elegance meets new world charm in this classic manor house in the picturesque Hudson River Valley.
Step into history at Windrift Hall, a tastefully restored 1790s Federal Style Manor house with a private pond.
Nature is all around you. The house is situated on a hill overlooking beautifully landscaped meadows with fields, mature trees and plantings, stone walls, gardens, a pond and the gently flowing creek which is surrounding the property.
Each season transforms the place into a magic wonderland. In spring time nature comes alive with colorful bursts of blooms everywhere you look. In summer you might like to take your breakfast in the shadow of the 250 old maple tree in front of the house or on the shaded terrace in the back. To cool off you could swim in the pond or lounge in the chaise lounges and deck chairs placed throughout the property. If you're lucky you might see a blue heron landing gracefully at the shore of the pond right in front of you or you can study the hawks circling in midair.
Enjoy the splendid colors in fall, you're surrounded by the most magnificent specimen trees showing off all hues from yellow to reds. In winter you can cozy up with a good book in front of the fireplace or if the temperatures allow go iceskating on the pond.
There's a beautiful Steinway Grand concert piano in the living room. As an experienced pianist we'd love to hear you play.
For your stay with us you can choose the white bedroom on the ground floor with adjoining bathroom or the blue bedroom on the first floor. A sumptuous breakfast with home made jams is included in your stay and if you wish you can join us for lunch or dinner.
It's a secluded and bucolic setting at the end of a winding private country road. It's close to Hunter and Windham ski areas and all the recreational opportunities of the Catskills. But although it feels very secluded, you'll find all the amenities around the corner.
Conveniently located at the corner of Route 81 and 9W, you’ll find a Grand Union supermarket, a gas station, a pharmacy, a pizza restaurant, a wine shop and a medical emergency center. Personally I love to shop at the Black Horse Farm on 9W towards Athens. They have a huge selection of fresh organic produce. While listening to the classic radio station, you can sample their delightful spreads of homemade products while browsing through the shop.
Our 300sf spring fed pond is set in a dramatic natural setting and perfect for swimming, but if you feel like going to an outdoor swimming pool, there’s the Catskill Valley Pool in the nearby town of Athens.
You’re welcome to use the public tennis courts of Coxsackie or you might enjoy a round of mini-golf on 9W while trying one of the 26 delicious ice cream flavors served at Tom’s next door.
If you feel like watching a movie we have a flat screen TV with a Netflix account or you might like to see the latest flic at the charming Drive-In Theatre on 9W.
There’s a beautiful horseback riding farm in an idyllic setting within 5min from us. For more details go to (website hidden)
If you’re interested in historic places don’t miss out on a tour through the Broncks House and Museum. It’s in walking distance and one of the oldest houses in America. Our library has books about all the historic places in the Hudson Valley, Olana across the river at the Rip van Wrinkle Bridge or Clermont on 9E are just a few other beautiful mansions to visit within 1/2 hours drive.
If you stay with us I’m sure you have a love for old and beautiful things. Our place is the best starting point for your antique treasure hunt. Just around the corner on 9W is the Coxsackie Antique Center showcasing the wares of 100 local dealers.
Across the river there’s the town of Hudson, famous for some of the most eclectic antique shops in the country. A stroll along picturesque Warren Street takes you to dozens of shops ranging from high-end stores with fine period pieces to unique little boutiques. There are also some nice restaurants. My personal favorites are the Swoon Kitchenbar and DABA.
Some of the best hikes are in the Catskills. You’ll find maps, hiking and walking guides as well as other information about Greene County in our library.
Within 30min drive there are 2 great ski resorts in the town of Hunter and Wyndham.
Please refer to the guidebook on this site for exact locations.
CHECK-IN AND OUT TIME:
Check in and out time is usually noon, but we’re flexible. Please let us know in advance what works best for you.
Well behaved dogs are permitted. Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up any/all pet refuse.
This is a non smoking house: So please smoke outside.
WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS:
You have wireless internet access throughout the house and within a certain range outside. Please log into our free account at FRENK.
WATER AND SEPTIC:
The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper. No feminine products should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that any improper material has been flushed and clogs the septic system, you could be charged for the plumbing services needed. We have a new instantaneous hot water system, which takes about 20 seconds to heat up. Just turn the faucet on and wait a bit.
HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING:
In winter the house is heated and pre-programmed for your entire stay. No need to change the thermostat.
In summer the thick walls together with a clever design of natural air conditioning create a cooling effect in the entire house. Just leave the door of the basement open, so cold air can circulate from the cellar into the attic and provide pleasant temperatures throughout the house. In addition we have a few external electric fans for your convenience. Usually temperatures are 10 degrees cooler upstate than in the City, so overall it's quite a difference.
You’ll find fresh sheets, duvet covers and towels in every room.
Enjoy the pond for swimming. It’s a fresh water pond with perfect temperatures on hot summer days. In winter you can ice skate at your own risk, just make sure there were freezing temperatures for at least 2 weeks before you step on the ice.
There are deckchairs and chaise lounges throughout the property.

It was a pleasure to stay with the Frenk's at their Catskills home. They were very accommodating. They made us feel very comfortable. Breakfast was great and Sue's Blueberry Muffins were amazing! I already told my friends and family about our stay and am planning to go back soon! Highly recommend!
We stayed here for two nights in the room downstairs. We really loved staying here!! It is a beautiful house with a beautiful garden around it. Also the tranquility of the nature around the house was a great thing. But the thing we liked the most was the hospitality of the host. It felt like if we were part of the family (joining diner at night, having breakfast together, let us play on the piano). The room was spacious and clean. So we really would recommend it to anyone!!
I had a truly marvelous stay at Sue's place. Her family is wonderful, I cooked with them, played in the lake with her kids and their friends, and was able to practice a lot on their lovely Steinway piano. They were kind enough to feed me, even though that is not part of the deal, and they were kind enough to drive me back to Hudson NY where I could catch the train back down to the city. No complaints whatsoever! A wonderful, tranquil three days in the country. Thanks so much!

We wanted to make our home feel like a retreat. Comfortable, luxurious and very welcoming. After a busy day full of activities, we crave for space and tranquility. Our place gives you room to breathe, to relax your mind and body. Antiques mingle with contemporary pieces resulting in a melting pot of styles, which reflect our roots and the time and place we live in. I'm a freelance creative director in advertising and my husband is a ceramic artist. We divide our time with our 2 children between the City and our house upstate. Being rooted in visual arts we both share a passion for design and good craftsmanship. You will feel a love for detail in every room you're staying.
We hope you enjoy our place as much as we do.
