The Mission is San Francisco's sunniest neighborhood, with vibrant murals and the city's hottest restaurants and shops. The 24th st. corridor where we live has a distinctly Latino flavor, with taquerias, pupuserias, and botanicas from Mexico and Central America. We have lived here for many years and love it.
You will be renting the entire home. The backyard has flowers and is sunny and lovely for hanging out and relaxing.
Interaction with Guests
We will not be present during your stay, and will communicate with you before you arrive. If we are out of town, a friend will be available who can answer emergency questions or needs. Our next door neighbors are close friends and can also help out if necessary.

Penelope has a charming place. Very peaceful place to rest after a night on the town. Highly recommend
Penelope was absolutely great! She provided really detailed, organized information promptly so I had no questions left to ask her! The house is stunning. It is quintessential San Francisco, a little quirky, creative, and beautifully executed. We spent our entire stay there wondering if there was a way we could rent out a room long-term, and if so, who would get it :) It is also an amazing location - right next to the mission and all its shops and restaurants, as well as right next to the highway to minimize fighting through hilly, city traffic.
We loved spending the July 4 weekend in the Mission at this comfortable, convenient home. Penelope sent detailed instructions in advance and left a welcoming note with a few more.
The house was completely comfortable for our group of three, our niece taking the smaller of the two bedrooms. The beds are very firm and low to the floor. The home is simply and tastefully decorated, completely comfortable, with plenty of hot water and excellent kitchen appliances. (Notes for those who care: no microwave. French press and pour-over coffee gear, but no drip coffeemaker.)
The location is great, a short walk from a choice area of 24th Street (St. Francis Fountain, Mexican bakeries, great coffee, and the amazing street art of Balmy Alley). The July 4 neighborhood fireworks were loud and relentless until shortly after midnight, but they didn't detract from our experience, and every other night was quiet.
There's a lovely little back-yard garden with a "cabana" building—a comfy sofa and small desk with comfortable office chair. It's a great spot for morning coffee or bring-your-laptop email. Wifi works nicely throughout the property.
Parking is effortless (can't often say that in San Francisco!), because you can park in front of the house's garage without being ticketed or towed.
We loved this place and Penelope was a terrific host. We'll certainly consider returning!
Penelope sent some great documentation on how to get acquainted with the space before I arrived. I was very confident in knowing I would be able to get in and be safe in the neighborhood. The space itself was a perfect fit for me and a coworker. Open and well lit general area to chat and get some work done during the day, comfortable bedrooms upstairs. The garden was a nice retreat as well in the city.
To others staying with friends in this space, it is easy to hear just about anything anywhere in the house (in my opinion) but that wasn't a huge problem.
Nous avons passés un excellent séjour chez Penelope. La maison était spacieuse, propre et ne manquait de rien. Parfait pour un groupe de 5. Penelope est restée disponible avant, pendant et même après le séjour ! Un grand merci à elle :)
Penelope's place is big, warm and welcoming. The garden is lovely. It's close to a lot of good Mexican restaurants and a great public pool! We also never struggled with parking as there's a spot right in front of the house. We very much enjoyed our stay there. I highly recommend the place.
We had great time spending at this house. It was my first experience for the airbnb but every help Penelope made was really clear and helpful.
I would definetely like to come back to this house, when go to San francisco again.

About the Host, Penelope
I'm from California, and my husband Giovanni is from Milan, Italy. We adore San Francisco and have called the Mission District home for decades. We love traveling and meeting people.
You'll find us bicycling around the city, enjoying local theater and art, hosting dinner parties and events in our one-of-a-kind house. We also like to get outdoors for horseback riding, hiking or foraging. Our home garden is full of herbs we cook with, and native flowering plants that attract hummingbirds, native bees, and colorful jays and warblers.
