Architect designed "Archie Bunker"

House - Entire home/apt · W Hill Rd, Warren, VT 05674, United States

The Space

Winner of a 2010 American Institute of Architects VT award, this is David Sellers' incredible concrete house nicknamed the "Archie Bunker." The house is located in scenic Warren, Vermont, in the Mad River Valley. Words don't describe this house that is designed down to the switchplates. The entire house is custom built with beautiful woodwork, concrete sculpture, and much more to explore. Enjoy sitting in the living room in which the wall slides open entirely to allow you to jump into the pool, or just get a bit of fresh air. Take a bath in a hand made tub that is surrounded by views of Warren. Cook dinner or have cocktails in the kitchen with brand new appliances and a see through sink. OR, we can provide you with a private chef, or pre-made meals for an extra but reasonable cost.

There are two bedrooms, and a pocket bed that pulls out from underneath the kitchen. There are many interesting views and windows throughout the house, so if privacy is a top concern, please take this into consideration.

In the winter, enjoy a kids sledding hill as well as town sledding hill at golf course very close, curling stones, sleds, ice skating on the pond and a shufflepuck table. In summer and fall, enjoy the pool, and the private 9 hole Pitch and Putt golf course with clubs and balls included. There is wireless internet, a phone, and a speaker system set up for an iPod. Be advised, there is not a TV, but many cool books and some games to explore as well as a great movie theater nearby.

The house is located minutes from the heart of Warren, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, as well as many great restaurants such as the Pitcher Inn, Warren Store, and American Flatbread. The Mad River Valley is also known for it's arts, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation opportunities. For more about Dave's architecture, check out "Sellers and Company."

Pricing is $700/ night in general, $4000/ a 7 day period. For stays that fall on Christmas and New Year's weeks, we ask that you rent for the entire week, and there is no weekly rental discount during these holiday periods. Pricing also varies for other holiday weekends such as President's Day and Memorial Day- just ask. Our normal check in time is after 4 pm, and check out before 11 am, but we are often flexible on the check in time- let us know what works for you. • The Bunker is a marvelous EXPERIENCE! The pictures, as lovely as they are, do not do it justice. I want to LIVE THERE FOREVER! The space is inspiring and welcoming. The space is full of surprises and every time you visit a room you see some new detail you missed before. The entire front wall by the pool slides open, which is just delectable! Dave provided plenty of linens, as well.

Keep in mind that the fridge is very SMALL, which was a challenge with 8 people. If you plan on cooking and bringing much food with you plan on bringing lots of ice and ice chests.

The pool is amazing and deep! There is a pitch and put course right next door and a lovely little pond with a foot bridge.

The sunsets are beautiful and there is plenty of shade around the house to keep it cool during the day even in the summer.

There are lots of chairs and sofas so the living room is suitable for large groups, as well.

I cannot say enough amazing things about the Bunker! It was a real grown up fairy tale to stay there!

  • We had a great time at the Bunker. It is such a lovely designed place. The huge sliding wall which connects the living room to the pool is just a master piece. The surrounding grounds are nice and quiet. The perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

  • We will be coming back here for sure. It was a great house and our son loved all of its playful designs, spying on my dad in the other room, looking at himself in the mirror outside, swimming, etc..

It is very comfortable and homey. We loved the towns nearby and the Mad Taco is not to be missed. We did not know this area is really happening on the weekends not so much on the weekdays which was fine since we were there to relax and swim. We would love to go back for a week next time- 3 nights was not enough.

Dave is also very inspiring person and just opened an Industrial Design museum in town that we will be back to visit.

  • The house was absolutely phenomenal! My nephew loved the pocket bed and all the little hidden treasures the house has to offer. I would absolutely stay there again.

  • As the other reviews point out, Archie Bunker is a unique and wonderful house. It feels a bit like Tim Burton and MC Escher had an architectural dream together. We comfortably slept 7 here; the trundle and pull out are couch are right next to each other but provided everyone is friends, it's no biggie. We had the pleasure of meeting Dave during our stay and he's a interesting, gregarious and very helpful host. Highly recommended.

  • This place was amazing! Dave is great very hospitable and also very respectful of your privacy. the property the house lays on is as interesting as the house. there also a B&B across the street that was easy to use when we had more friends come up and join us. everyone in town knows Dave and the house which made us feel like we were instantly part of the community. there are a lot of windows in the house and little privacy but the way the house is situated on the lot make it more private then you think and the fact that you have a view from every room makes it worth while. we will be back for sure.

  • Our visit to the Bunker was amazing! We'd highly recommend this place to anyone! There's beautiful artistry put into each detail of this unique house. The town it's set in is great and Dave and Anna were more than helpful.

  • Staying at the "bunker" was a really unique and amazing experience. Very interestingly designed house. I have so many lingering questions...
I stayed this past weekend with a couple of friends to do some hiking and foliage peeping.
Looking forward to my next stay; the Warren, VT area is one of the most beautiful in the country and is a snow-sports wonderland.
    Highly recommend.

  • What an amazing place! Endlessly entertaining, wonderfully situated, fascinatingly designed. After four days there we were still finding new things to wonder about and enjoy.

Balconies facing a different direction on every floor, a wall that moves, a pool that makes you feel you are in a Roman bath, a picturesque little pond, golf on the site (and a great course down the road), a kitchen that makes even me want to cook, terrific furniture, wonderful beds, so many elements and textures, nature inside and out, and a different thing to look at every place you looked. There was something that appealed to my entire family -- a very hard thing to do!

Depending on where you are in the place, you get a totally different experience. And you learn to think of public and private in whole new ways once you've been here for a few days, too....

Hats off to Dave Sellars and his crew who came up with this place -- and a big thanks for making it available to the rest of us to experience it. An exceptional place, we feel lucky to have stumbled on it. We came back relaxed, inspired and appreciative. Best vacation we've had in years. Highly recommended!
