The Neighborhood

There are many tourist attractions and places to visit in the immediate locality and further afield. The area is also popular for walking, cycling, fishing and angling. There is good access to major routes, making it easy to plan a driving or touring holiday. Shannon airport and Kerry airport are only a short drive away.

We recommend the following:

(within walking distance)
The medieval town of Askeaton is within walking or very easy cycling distance. There is a post office, a cafe, a bar which also serves food, local shops, a swimming pool and fitness centre, a bank, a medical centre, and a supermarket. You can fill your car with fuel, and there is a service, repair, and car sales garage. Call at the Tourist Information Centre for guided tours of the town, including Askeaton Castle and the Franciscan Friary.

Knockpatrick Gardens, near Foynes, is within walking or cycling distance. 3 acres of beautiful mature gardens, and breathtaking views of surrounding countryside, make an enjoyable visit.

(within cycling distance)
Foynes was a stop-over for transatlantic flights in the early days of aviation, and is now home to the famous Flying Boat and Maritime Museum. There are shops, bars, and places to eat. Foynes is also part of the Wild Atlantic Way, and you can join the route here.

Curraghchase Forest Park is a woodland estate with lakes, which surrounds the 18th century Curraghchase House. It is a popular walking, cycling and picnic location.

The Celtic Theme Park and Gardens near Kilcornan are situated on an original Celtic settlement. Find authentic and re-created features from Ireland's past as you walk through the beautiful gardens.

(within easy driving distance)
Adare is a quaint and charming village which is home to medieval monasteries and ruins, and a picturesque village park. Traditional thatched roofs can be seen on many of the buildings in the main street. There are bars, shops and restaurants. Call in at the Tourist Information Centre for more details, or to visit the cafe and the museum.

Bleach Lough is a lake which is popular for fishing and angling. The area is stocked with trout, salmon, pike and rudd. Fishing licenses can be purchased for the day.

Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are worth a visit. Guided tours of the Castle are very popular, and the Folk Park offers a fascinating insight into early rural life in Ireland. Book a place at a Medieval Banquet for an evening of unique entertainment.

Getting Around

We can recommend a local taxi and mini-bus service that offers both local transport and an airport shuttle service.

For guests who are touring Ireland, there are many places within driving distance, and suitable for a day trip. Examples are The Cliffs of Moher, Blarney Castle, The Burren, Killarney Castle, Dingle peninsula, Connemara, and Kinsale.
