The Space

Lovely 450 sq.ft. yurt. We are located on the west side of Santa Cruz, 4 blocks from West Cliff drive. Street parking, Wireless internet. We are available Friday and Saturday nights and some 3 day weekends. There are limited cooking facilities, rice steamer, toaster oven, dorm style cook plate, fridge, futon bed. You have you own bathroom in the adjoining room with additional secure storage for boards or bikes.
This is a sweet and central neighborhood. We have a farmer's market on Saturday, cool bakery/cafe, wine tasting and local beer brewing.
We now have a lovely sauna and $25 discounts to a top rated spa, Vital body (website hidden).

Interaction with Guests

The yurt is separate from the house. After we get our guests settled in , they are on their own for the weekend unless they need something. If they want to get to know us , we are open and friendly. We are around to help or answer questions.

  • We had a marvelous time at this little bit of peaceful paradise in the perfect Santa Cruz location. Laura was a wonderful hostess, explaining all the important details about some of the factors that make this such a unique BnB experience--from the tiny preschooler-sized toilet (that "will take whatever you've got," as she explained her son usually takes care to reassure guests), to the marvelous on-site sauna. We loved the cozy setting and having so much space to ourselves, surrounded by beautiful trees. The yurt serves as preschool during the week, but makes the perfect one-room weekend rental with kitchen facilities including refrigerator, coffee maker, hot plate, and sink. The full-sized futon bed provides firm back support, and the bathroom is just next door. The bathroom is actually located in an adjacent building requiring a brief outdoors walk, but the entire set-up is fully private and feels welcoming, magical, peaceful, friendly, inviting, meditative, and secure. Laura thoughtfully provided us with local organic fruits, milk, and gluten-free coffee cake to suit our dietary requirements, and was the perfect hostess! I really loved the spaciousness of the yurt interior and the feeling of expansiveness on the grounds. I enjoy meditating and reading on weekends, and this is the perfect place to unwind!

  • Laura is a gracious and accommodating host, and we had a wonderful time staying in her yurt. A great way to spend a weekend in Santa Cruz.

  • What an incredible weekend in Santa Cruz!!! Laura & her son Alexander made me feel right at home-they are kind and wonderful people! The yurt was just as I expected, a warm, bright and cozy but large space. The property is so close to the beach and bike trails. I rented a bike at a great shop that was a half-mile away and rode the trails all through Wilder Ranch and along W. Cliff Dr. The location and accommodation can't be beat. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful home!

  • It's only 4 stars because I didnt actually stay here...I unfortunately was not able to stay at Laura's place due to a family emergency. When I contacted Laura about my situation... she was MORE then accommodating, friendly, and understanding. She even offered me a full refund, but luckily I had a friend in town that was willing to take it over and Laura didn't even bat an eye and allowed it.
Really sorry I wasnt able to spend my weekend here but I will readjust my schedule to book this place, my friend made me SUPER jealous with her rave reviews about Laura and this amazing Yurt. Can't wait to check it out for myself.

  • Laura was welcoming and kind, and had thoroughly cleaned and prepared the yurt for our arrival with fresh flowers and fruit. The listing was even better than we'd hoped - comfy bed, PERFECT location close to all our favorite things in west end Santa Cruz, and a super nice sauna! As I fell asleep the first night, I felt a sense of peacefulness and relaxation that I hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe there is something psychologically comforting about being in a round room with a giant skylight on top...
We will definitely be back next time we come to Santa Cruz!

If you are a light sleeper, consider bringing some earplugs because the walls are very thin so you can hear everything that goes on outside. And if you are averse to cold, this might not be the best place for you during the winter, as it isn't very well insulated. Laura did provide heaters though, which got the place pretty warm after a while.

  • Laura and Alex were very warm and hospitable hosts! They went out of their way to make my stay pleasant and comfortable. The yurt was wonderful, as was the sauna! The bed was extremely comfortable and warm. The whole experience was magical, and because there were little chairs tucked in the corner (it's used as a preschool during the weekdays), I felt like I was staying in the yurt of the seven dwarves. :) I LOVED IT!

Laura is very friendly and I was able to have a lovely chat with her on one of the nights. The neighborhood has a great location and is close to many things. I would definitely come back again!

  • lovely experience staying in a civilized tent in beautiful Santa Cruz. It was a last minute trip, and Laura responded promptly which was much appreciated. Alex, Laura's son, is the 13-year-old business owner of this cute place, welcomed us, and introduced us everything we needed to know. The yurt was cute and spacious, only little surprise was toilet is very tiny and low as it's for preschool kids during the week. But it's functional. :) I was very impressed how proper and polite Alex was. then we were left alone all weekend with privacy. The yurt has 2 doors with one facing east through which you can see beautiful sunrise first thing from the bed if you get lucky with weather. At night, you can see starts through the skylight.

This space is in walking distance to everything, beach, the most important part for us, and all the great places to eat. We walked around the beach, had morning coffee at Cafe Iveta and Kelly's French bakery, both have great vibes and coffee, yet different. West Tap and kitchen is super gem we found if you like beer and some freshly baked flatbread or hamburger...a perfect Sunday lunch spot. :)

Thanks Alex and Laura for your kind accommodation and thoughtful hosting.
