Fully recommend staying at Le Bastion, and the Long Loft Room is a great choice. The bnb is full of interesting pictures and objects, and there is a large sitting-room/dining room for guests to have coffee, read, eat etc.. Breakfast is provided by the Bastion kitchen over the road, delicious coffee and home-made bread. Thank you Anthony & people at Le Bastion.

Anthony was an excellent host. He was so friendly and helpful. He made great suggestions on places to visit including pubs and parks. We loved renting bikes and riding to Rindoon. The room was also wonderful. It was so cozy and perfect for two people. We also enjoyed our free breakfast every morning across the street. We would definitely stay here again!
We loved the bastion. One of the best b n bs ever. We stayed in the loft room and it was amazing!
We loved the vibes in this great spot! Anthony recommended a fantastic Thai restaurant down the street for dinner, we had a few drinks at Sean's pub, and the nice breakfast in the morning was a perfect finish to the trip. We were just passing through on our way to Galway but we very much enjoyed our little (too brief!) visit. Great location, host, and all around major style points!
The Bastion was a lovely, comfortable place, and Anthony was a charming, welcoming host. It's not a generic B&B -- it's infused with an eclectic, artistic style. We stayed in the "Loft", which had room for four people in a spacious, funky layout. Our girls really liked having their own section, set off from the rest of the room by a short stairway. Really nice place to stay in a fantastic location just around the corner from Athlone Castle. Very short walking distance to the main square.
Magnifique petite maison de charme à Athlone. Nos hôtes ont été très agréable et disponible. Bon accueil et très bonne nuit

About the Host, Anthony
Hi I'm Anthony. I run The Bastion with my brother Vinny. Our street is named after the Royal Bastion which once occupied the street where we are.
Our house is a bit of a labyrinth inside. There's lots of history here. The world famous Irish tenor John Count McCormack often visited in the early 1900s. More recently we had Michael Jackson downstairs at The Bastion Gallery!
Our style is laid back and relaxed. We love good food and the left bank area is a gourmet district with lots of great restaurants and pubs. You definitely won't go hungry here. Ireland's Oldest Bar is just down the hill. There is music most evenings. Close by, McGuire's Bar boasts over 100 craft beers.
The beautiful river Shannon is just at the end of the street. The imposing and enormous stone castle built by King John in 1210 majestically guards the river crossing.
In 1691 the area was besieged by the armies of King William of Orange in a battle with King James for the English throne. Thirty thousand cannon balls were fired across the river in the barrage that ensued. We have one of them!
The nearby Luan Gallery hosts great exhibitions throughout the year.
