About this listing
1980's rustic mobile home - back in the woods but near everything in Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Located inside Carrboro city limits, with a Chapel Hill mailing address. Cannot be seen from road. Solar lights on deck. Owls and deer!
This is a 1981 doublewide mobile home. It is clean, fully furnished with a working kitchen, dishes, pots, etc. Two bedrooms, two baths (one off the master bedroom). We use the two bedrooms as an office and artist studio when guests are not using them. Behind a third locked door is a toolroom - supply closet, with it's own exterior door.
In summer, there are window air-conditioners. We clean and air the trailer before your arrival. A few minutes of open windows or A/C will remove our southern humidity.
There is a covered, screened front deck with chairs and a table. There are trees and lots of birds, deer, and the sometimes a spotted owl hooting. Quiet and peaceful, can't be seen from the road.
Winter heat is by in room heaters, with a central electric heat furnace that gets expensive - tends to feel a little chilly in the winter to most southerners.
There is no internet at the trailer - there are wifi sites all over town (and free Carrboro Wifi downtown).
Cellphone/smartphone service is good.
Privacy, trees, park your car and ride your bike (free bus during the week has bike rack). It's about 10 minutes drive to downtown Chapel Hill or Carrboro. It's about 5 minutes to the Park & Ride for transit throughout the Triangle area.
Nearby shopping centers are Timberlyne and Chapel Hill North with shopping (Food Lion, Harris Teeter), gas, restaurants, and post office.
Whole Foods is about 15 minutes away; Weaver Street Co-op in Carrboro is a great gathering place. Whole Foods in Chapel Hill is quite large. Also a Trader Joe's just down the road from Whole Foods.
Guests have use of the main part of the trailer including the kitchen. We access the toolroom from the exterior side door so your space is private.
Interaction with Guests
We try to meet everyone when they arrive. You are on your own, but we are nearby if you need anything.
The trailer is on several acres with one other occupied house and a 1930's stone house that is not occupied. Lots of trees and birds and deer. The neighborhood is convenient to both Chapel Hill and Carrboro. We recommend a car, although some guests have parked and used their bikes to get around, and the free HS bus line runs M-F. See the "guidebook" for some local interests.
There is public transit during the week but it's best to have your own transportation. The HS bus line runs on Rogers Road about once an hour to/from the university, but not late nights or weekends. A car is recommended (although two guests biked most of the time - more power to them).
Other Things to Note
We stick by our NO PETS policy.
No smoking, and no pets, sorry. We live nearby so we can come by if you have any questions. Yes, this really is a doublewide mobile home, so nothing is too fussy! Please do not crank up the utilities while you are not at home. A/C via window units.
