1980's rustic mobile home - back in the woods but near everything in Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Located inside Carrboro city limits, with a Chapel Hill mailing address. Cannot be seen from road. Solar lights on deck. Owls and deer!

The space

This is a 1981 doublewide mobile home. It is clean, fully furnished with a working kitchen, dishes, pots, etc. Two bedrooms, two baths (one off the master bedroom). We use the two bedrooms as an office and artist studio when guests are not using them. Behind a third locked door is a toolroom - supply closet, with it's own exterior door.

In summer, there are window air-conditioners. We clean and air the trailer before your arrival. A few minutes of open windows or A/C will remove our southern humidity.

There is a covered, screened front deck with chairs and a table. There are trees and lots of birds, deer, and the sometimes a spotted owl hooting. Quiet and peaceful, can't be seen from the road.

Winter heat is by in room heaters, with a central electric heat furnace that gets expensive - tends to feel a little chilly in the winter to most southerners.

There is no internet at the trailer - there are wifi sites all over town (and free Carrboro Wifi downtown).

Cellphone/smartphone service is good.

Privacy, trees, park your car and ride your bike (free bus during the week has bike rack). It's about 10 minutes drive to downtown Chapel Hill or Carrboro. It's about 5 minutes to the Park & Ride for transit throughout the Triangle area.

Nearby shopping centers are Timberlyne and Chapel Hill North with shopping (Food Lion, Harris Teeter), gas, restaurants, and post office.

Whole Foods is about 15 minutes away; Weaver Street Co-op in Carrboro is a great gathering place. Whole Foods in Chapel Hill is quite large. Also a Trader Joe's just down the road from Whole Foods.

Guest access

Guests have use of the main part of the trailer including the kitchen. We access a toolroom / office from the exterior side door so your space is private.

Interaction with guests

We try to meet everyone when they arrive. You are on your own, but we are nearby if you need anything.

Other things to note

We stick by our NO PETS policy.

Place was a little difficult to find at night, but host provided adequate and thorough instructions that got us there! We didn't use the space much except for sleeping but it was a good spot to crash and they provided a nice assortment of things for breakfast and even some treats (wine and chocolate) that were a nice touch.

Simone and her husband were extremely helpful and accommodating as we looked to find a rental for friends last minute. They were professional, courteous, and very responsive! We have had a wonderful experience with them and will definitely continue to stay in touch and perhaps book again when family and friends come to town to visit us here in Durham!

Everything was perfect at the blue trailer! We love the place! And, Simone and David are wonderful hosts who mange everything wonderfully from beginning to end. Also being 10 minutes from downtown Carrboro was perfect for us.

I had to travel to NC from California for work/school and really wanted a place that was quiet and private, and Simone's place was perfect. I needed the place for four weeks, and scheduling was a breeze. She provided really detailed instructions with pictures to help me find the place and met me there when I arrived and walked me through her place, including a really helpful sheet of info both on the place and on the local area. The place was exactly as described in her ad, a well-outfitted mobile home in the middle of the woods, with a few hundred feet between you and the closest neighbor. I never heard a sound while I was there, which was blissful coming from LA. Simone and her partner touched base via text ever so often, but left me to my devices other than to ask how I was doing and if I needed anything. It really was perfect for what I wanted. Access to I-40 was close by, so even though it wasn't in the middle of Chapel Hill, Durham or Raleigh, it was easy to get anywhere I wanted. Wouldn't have changed a thing.

The peace and quiet at this property was especially nice, and often deer could be seen right outside the door. The tranquility was great, but it was still located minutes from the heart of Chapel Hill and all this delightful town has to offer. The house was basic no frills accommodation, but had the necessities (spacious shower with good hot water in master bedroom, a clean and reliable oven and stove, microwave, roomy refrigerator, clothes washer, bed linen and towels provided). It would have been good to have had Wifi and TV, but for the low cost it was not that much trouble to go to a nearby café for an internet connection, or listen to NPR on the radio/CD player which was provided in the living room.

Our hosts, David and Simone, were very timely in communicating with us about our plans and they went the extra mile to make sure our whole family would be comfortable by locating a pack and play for us to use for a baby bed, They met us at the front door to show us the layout and then left us to our devices, but made sure we were well equipped with breakfast goods, so we did not need to go to the store right away. We were cocooned in many layers of green in this cozy trailer home, it was a perfect woodland retreat for staying near the lovely Chapel Hill and Carrboro area.

Response from Susan Simone:
Good suggestion. We are in a wet climate so no dry dessert air. when the trailer is closed up for even a day or so in the summer, it will smell musty. I'll add a note to the description. Sometimes we are able to go out there and turn on the A/C or open the windows; other days we don't get out there ahead of time. This will make you think twice about the romance of a simple life in a trailer as you drive through the Virginia Mtns.

We live nearby - walking distance from the trailer. We are both former New Yorkers, but we have been in the Chapel Hill ares for decades. Interests are writing, photography, music, travel, books, music, fixing things (houses - cars - radios - clocks), and community radio (Tofu is a DJ on the local station).

Our guru is taking us on a quest to achieve complete ignorance but the journey is lengthy. :) Meanwhile we seek to honor the spirit of those we encounter everywhere.

We've used AirBnB many times ourselves, and like quiet places that are "down to earth", not too fancy, and private - sort of like this one. Hablamos Espanol tambien!
