More info re. neighbourhood (see also Guidebook): Chiswick is a leafy, pleasant suburb in West London, located on the north side of the River Thames, 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Charing Cross. Historically an ancient parish in the county of Middlesex, with an agrarian and fishing economy. The name 'Chiswick' originates from 'Cheese Farm'; the riverside meadows and farms that are thought to have supported an annual cheese fair on Dukes Meadows until the eighteenth century. It is a thriving centre which acts as a focal point for the surrounding residential areas with easy access to an enormous range of amenities. Perfect for people interested in gentle walks in the parks and rowing on the Thames, as well as for those interested in a place rich in history and culture or with simply fabulous connections to the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke.
The amenities within walking distance of the property include several award winning independent shops, boutiques, high street shops, traditional pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants (we even have a few Michelin stars!) banks, a post office, numerous salons, modern health and medical centres and excellent sporting and leisure facilities and auction houses, all within an active community with many societies, associations etc. Best of all you get to come back to a lovely home at the end of the day!
Places of local architectural interest include Chiswick House and Gardens (a fine example of Palladian architecture), as well as numerous local civic and church buildings, historic public houses, and period mansion blocks. The property itself is a Grade 2 Listed house in Bedford Park (the world's first Garden Suburb in the 1880's by Architect Richard Norman Shaw in the Queen Anne Style).
Chiswick has superb transport links including buses, underground and mainline railway services. The house is 2mins walk from Turnham Green underground station (Zone 2, District line). By tube it's 15 minutes to the Museum Quarter, 20 mins to Central London. Buses direct to Piccadilly via Westfield, Holland Park, Notting Hill, Bayswater, Hyde Park and Oxford Street as well as to Camden, Hammersmith and a multitude of other destinations. Easy access to the A4, M4, M25, and M40. 20 mins drive to Heathrow and 20 mins drive to Central London. Plus various taxi services etc.
