About this listing
This is a recently enlarged and totally refurbished very large bedroom/bathroom featuring it's own private entrance on the side of the main house and sliding glass doors that give access to a large desert garden with swimming pool and outdoor dining area.
This cozy room has it's own cooling/heating, ceiling fan, bamboo wood flooring, wet bar with fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker and a flat screen tv. Wireless internet is available. There is a large walk-in closet and plenty of storage for all your luggage and personal belongings. The bed is a very comfortable Queen size.
I like to spoil all my guests with luxurious quality sheets and towels and make sure basic toiletries and a hair dryer are available.
Coffee, tea, fresh fruit and yoghurt are provided and I keep the fridge stocked with some cold water and juices.
I have a portable baby crib with bedding and a highchair available for anyone traveling with a baby or toddler.
The house is situated in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains with wonderful views, surrounded by desert and is extremely quiet. The only sound may occasionally be the coyotes at night and always the desert birds in the morning.
Close by you'll have access to great shopping and many excellent restaurants. The University of Arizona is an easy 6 mile drive away and yet there are also a lot of hiking trailheads very close by.
Back yard with comfortable seating to sit and relax or have your meals outside. There is an electric Weber barbecue available.
Pool is accessible to guests (not heated) and extra pool towels are provided.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet and great my guests personally if at all possible. Getting to know each one and helping them to get the most out of their trip is the fun of being a host!
I' m always available by cell phone for questions or problems.
I love my neighborhood and have lived here for more than 20 years. I love to walk here and never tire of it.
It's spacious and quiet with beautiful homes in a natural desert setting, yet close to lots of amenities. Good shops, cinemas, hiking trails and a great variety of excellent restaurants.
Tucson has some excellent public transport, including a new light rail system, but public transport to the foothills is limited to busses early and late in the day. The nearest bus terminal is 2 miles away. A car is therefor essential. There is plenty of parking at the house.
The airport is a half hour drive by car.
Other Things to Note
The room has it's own heating/cooling unit and a ceiling fan.
Use of washer and dryer is available upon request.
Since 2014 all electrical needs are supplied by solar panels.
Separate key is available. This is an extremely safe neighborhood, but please lock up when you leave.
Since the desert is a dry and somewhat dusty environment you may want to bring some slippers for indoor use, so you can leave your shoes at the door.
The pool is fenced for safety, but not locked. It is warm enough to swim from about April through October. Extra pool towels are supplied.
Since water in the desert is scarce, we try to conserve it as much as we can.
I maintain a no smoking environment, but guests may smoke outside if they wish.
This was a great place to stay in the foothills of Tucson. We went with the idea of looking to relocate to the area and it was a perfect respite for us. We explored the area and still had time to enjoy the serenity of this Sonoran desert retreat! Els was a perfect host and made us feel totally at home. Close proximity to the city as well as being centrally located enabled us to see so much of the area. We are so grateful to have stayed in this lovely home and would recommend it to everyone!!
Els has an absolutely beautiful home and it was a joy to stay with her. The room is wonderfully decorated and peaceful. Everything was spotless. She makes a genuine effort to insure a guest's comfort offering fruit, coffee, tea, and home baked goods. Her manner is both friendly and informative about Tucson her city.
The neighborhood is unique and very pretty.
You will not regret your making her your choice for a lovely stay.
This was the first time I used air B&B and it won't be my last. Els was a very gracious and generous host. The room was very nice and was exact to the description. I was certainly surprised with all the food that she supplied me with for breakfast. I never had to leave the room in the morning to go eat which was a wonderful treat. I felt very safe in her neighborhood and enjoyed that it was in the foothills.
With my daughter going off to college I will be returning to El's place every time but I'll need to book her place in advance because the secret is out.
I loved my stay in Tucson at the Sonoran Desert Retreat. Els' home was lovely and a very relaxing visit in the serene surroundings of the desert with the doves and quails nudging me awake each morning. Her neighbourhood was safe and a friendly place for morning walks. The location was close to lots of amenities. Els offered privacy but also reassured access for anything I needed. I would definitely return on future visits.
Sonoran desert retreat is a lovely place. Els made our first airbnb experience wonderful. There are little details around that add up to make the overall stay better than a hotel. Very spacious accommodations, great views, quiet neighborhood, access to the pool and back patio. Lovely.
Els is very good at communicating and making her guest feel welcome. The description was right on the mark. She has this placed ‘dialed-in’ and has anticipated her guests needs very well. Thanks Els!
Els and her Sonoran Desert Retreat were terrific. Her place was neat and clean, and loaded with special touches, such as bathrobes, Trader Joe's shampoo, a collection of DVDs and books. The house was located in a quiet neighborhood that made a great venue for a morning stroll. We enjoyed sitting out by the pool and enjoying the sounds of the birds. This was our first airbnb experience, and it couldn't have been better!
