This is a recently enlarged and totally refurbished very large bedroom/bathroom featuring it's own private entrance on the side of the main house and sliding glass doors that give access to a large desert garden with swimming pool and outdoor dining area.
This cozy room has it's own cooling/heating, ceiling fan, bamboo wood flooring, wet bar with fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker and a flat screen tv. Wireless internet is available. There is a large walk-in closet and plenty of storage for all your luggage and personal belongings. The bed is a very comfortable Queen size.
I like to spoil all my guests with luxurious quality sheets and towels and make sure basic toiletries and a hair dryer are available.
Coffee, tea, fresh fruit and yoghurt are provided and I keep the fridge stocked with some cold water and juices.
I have a portable baby crib with bedding and a highchair available for anyone traveling with a baby or toddler.
The house is situated in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains with wonderful views, surrounded by desert and is extremely quiet. The only sound may occasionally be the coyotes at night and always the desert birds in the morning.
Close by you'll have access to great shopping and many excellent restaurants. The University of Arizona is an easy 6 mile drive away and yet there are also a lot of hiking trailheads very close by.
Back yard with comfortable seating to sit and relax or have your meals outside. There is an electric Weber barbecue available.
Pool is accessible to guests (not heated) and extra pool towels are provided.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet and great my guests personally if at all possible. Getting to know each one and helping them to get the most out of their trip is the fun of being a host!
I' m always available by cell phone for questions or problems.
I love my neighborhood and have lived here for more than 20 years. I love to walk here and never tire of it.
It's spacious and quiet with beautiful homes in a natural desert setting, yet close to lots of amenities. Good shops, cinemas, hiking trails and a great variety of excellent restaurants.
Tucson has some excellent public transport, including a new light rail system, but public transport to the foothills is limited to busses early and late in the day. The nearest bus terminal is 2 miles away. A car is therefor essential. There is plenty of parking at the house.
The airport is a half hour drive by car.
Other Things to Note
The room has it's own heating/cooling unit and a ceiling fan.
Use of washer and dryer is available upon request.
Since 2014 all electrical needs are supplied by solar panels.
Separate key is available. This is an extremely safe neighborhood, but please lock up when you leave.
Since the desert is a dry and somewhat dusty environment you may want to bring some slippers for indoor use, so you can leave your shoes at the door.
The pool is fenced for safety, but not locked. It is warm enough to swim from about April through October. Extra pool towels are supplied.
Since water in the desert is scarce, we try to conserve it as much as we can.
I maintain a no smoking environment, but guests may smoke outside if they wish.
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay in this quiet residential neighborhood. We especially enjoyed the variety of birds in the backyard.
I stay with Els every year and her suite is always the highlight of my stay. It has everything one might want for a peaceful visit. Els is super friendly and helpful. Thanks again and see you next year!
This was our third stay with Els, and as usual everything was perfect. The room is clean and spacious, and we look forward to staying again in the future!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Els' private room rental! She greeted us kindly upon arrival with a quick tour of the many amenities that would make our stay convenient and comfortable. Among them were nice touches such as organic yogurt, cranberry scones, an assortment of teas/coffee and delicious orange juice. A plethora of small appliances were available at our fingertips. The separate entrance allowed private access so we didn't feel as though we were disturbing our hostess. The space was impeccably clean and the bed comfortable. We were there for only 2 nights but wished we could've stayed a week at this great spot! We look forward to returning if our path should bring us to Tucson again!!
We loved our stay at the Sonoran Desert Retreat. It definitely lived up to its description and then some. This was our first visit to Tucson and this was definitely the best location for all the activities we were interested in doing. We loved the privacy of our room with the private entrance and access to the patio and pool.( It was colder this week so we really didn't end up jumping in!) Els was very helpful and friendly when we needed information or ideas about what to see. It was so nice to have a few lazy mornings and have coffee (very good) in our room and a light breakfast that Els provided us. There was a nice bow of fruit, yogurt, juice and cereal available to us every morning. The room was clean, nice linens and sheets were provided as well. We used the big closet to unpack our things and really feel at home. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful with views of the mountains. It's a nice quiet place to read and relax at the end of our busy days running around Tucson. We loved how close we were to Catalina State Park and to Sabino Canyon, where we had many great hikes. I would definitely recommend staying here if you want the privacy and luxury of not staying at a hotel. The pictures are very accurate. Thank-you Els, for our lovely stay!
Beautiful room in a beautiful quiet neighborhood. Lovely back yard accessible through sliding glass doors. Els was very welcoming and even left muffins for me on Christmas Eve.
What a terrific experience Els provided us with at her Sonoran Desert Retreat (a name that we found to be entirely accurate). We arrived midday to discover a batch of cinnamon rolls awaiting us in the room, along with a snack-filled fridge and a board with ideas aplenty (and museum guest passes, for those so inclined!) for discovering Tucson. Her home is in a peaceful neighborhood, replete with saguaros and panoramic views, making it a great place to wake up in the morning and settle down each night. On our last day she provided us a flexible checkout and breakfast recommendations in the area near the Mini Time Museum of Miniatures (which you absolutely must check out if you have a spare hour), and sent us on our way with a smile.
