This is a recently enlarged and totally refurbished very large bedroom/bathroom featuring it's own private entrance on the side of the main house and sliding glass doors that give access to a large desert garden with swimming pool and outdoor dining area.
This cozy room has it's own cooling/heating, ceiling fan, bamboo wood flooring, wet bar with fridge, microwave oven and coffee maker and a flat screen tv. Wireless internet is available. There is a large walk-in closet and plenty of storage for all your luggage and personal belongings. The bed is a very comfortable Queen size.
I like to spoil all my guests with luxurious quality sheets and towels and make sure basic toiletries and a hair dryer are available.
Coffee, tea, fresh fruit and yoghurt are provided and I keep the fridge stocked with some cold water and juices.
I have a portable baby crib with bedding and a highchair available for anyone traveling with a baby or toddler.
The house is situated in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains with wonderful views, surrounded by desert and is extremely quiet. The only sound may occasionally be the coyotes at night and always the desert birds in the morning.
Close by you'll have access to great shopping and many excellent restaurants. The University of Arizona is an easy 6 mile drive away and yet there are also a lot of hiking trailheads very close by.
Back yard with comfortable seating to sit and relax or have your meals outside. There is an electric Weber barbecue available.
Pool is accessible to guests (not heated) and extra pool towels are provided.
Interaction with Guests
I love to meet and great my guests personally if at all possible. Getting to know each one and helping them to get the most out of their trip is the fun of being a host!
I' m always available by cell phone for questions or problems.
I love my neighborhood and have lived here for more than 20 years. I love to walk here and never tire of it.
It's spacious and quiet with beautiful homes in a natural desert setting, yet close to lots of amenities. Good shops, cinemas, hiking trails and a great variety of excellent restaurants.
Tucson has some excellent public transport, including a new light rail system, but public transport to the foothills is limited to busses early and late in the day. The nearest bus terminal is 2 miles away. A car is therefor essential. There is plenty of parking at the house.
The airport is a half hour drive by car.
Other Things to Note
The room has it's own heating/cooling unit and a ceiling fan.
Use of washer and dryer is available upon request.
Since 2014 all electrical needs are supplied by solar panels.
Separate key is available. This is an extremely safe neighborhood, but please lock up when you leave.
Since the desert is a dry and somewhat dusty environment you may want to bring some slippers for indoor use, so you can leave your shoes at the door.
The pool is fenced for safety, but not locked. It is warm enough to swim from about April through October. Extra pool towels are supplied.
Since water in the desert is scarce, we try to conserve it as much as we can.
I maintain a no smoking environment, but guests may smoke outside if they wish.
Els was so welcoming and made us feel at home straight away. The house is in a very good neighbourhood, quiet and within easy reach of several major routes in and out of Tucson.
The scenery round about is stunning and Els encourages birds into her beautiful garden.
The large room has everything you could possibly want, even a slow cooker. The fridge was fully stocked with fresh food.
We would most certainly make this our base if we came back to Arizona.
We thoroughly enjoyed are 2 week stay with Els. She was quite communicative both before and during our stay. She was always available if needed but we certainly had plenty of privacy. We had a a particularly nice visit one evening on the patio with her and her family.
The accommodations were definitely as advertised on the Airbnb site. Its super having access to the backyard, pool and patio area through the sliding glass doors. The birds in the area are outstanding and the cheeps of the Gambel's quail could be heard every morning (a terrific way to wake up on a spring morning). They were constantly strutting along the rear walls of the backyard. There is plenty of space for a couple including a nice storage area just off the bedroom. She provides lots of goodies(yogurt, fruit, juice, etc.) in the frig to get you going once you arrive.
The neighborhood is terrific for walking in. Her home is also quite convenient to such natural attractions as the Catalina State park and Sabino Canyon as well as to the University of Arizona area. Its also quite close to restaurants, groceries etc without being right in the thick of them.
I cannot imagine a better host than Els and we look forward to visiting her again.
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Els Sonoran Desert Retreat. The room is huge with everything you could ever need. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. The beautifully desert landscaped yard had so many different birds which we enjoyed. The fridge and cupboards were well stocked with organic yogurt, cereal, cream, milk and coffee etc. This was our first Airbnb experience and Els insured it won't be our last!
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay in this quiet residential neighborhood. We especially enjoyed the variety of birds in the backyard.
I stay with Els every year and her suite is always the highlight of my stay. It has everything one might want for a peaceful visit. Els is super friendly and helpful. Thanks again and see you next year!
This was our third stay with Els, and as usual everything was perfect. The room is clean and spacious, and we look forward to staying again in the future!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Els' private room rental! She greeted us kindly upon arrival with a quick tour of the many amenities that would make our stay convenient and comfortable. Among them were nice touches such as organic yogurt, cranberry scones, an assortment of teas/coffee and delicious orange juice. A plethora of small appliances were available at our fingertips. The separate entrance allowed private access so we didn't feel as though we were disturbing our hostess. The space was impeccably clean and the bed comfortable. We were there for only 2 nights but wished we could've stayed a week at this great spot! We look forward to returning if our path should bring us to Tucson again!!
