First thing, the place was AMAZING and as described. Even better than the pictures. Omar was really helpful and answered all our questions. The place is perfectly located if you want to discover Marseille. We had an amazing stay.

My family of four (parent in our 50's and "children" in their early 30's) stayed her for 3 days. The neighborhood is in old Marseille and has tall buildings with narrow, winding streets. Pros: We loved the neighborhood, especially all 4 of the restaurants in the square when you turn right out the front door. The apartment offered a lot of space, had lots of natural light and the breezes were wonderful. Cons: The host was on vacation while we stayed and had his son greet us. Though his son was polite, he doesn't live in Marseille and could not offer us any suggestions for restaurants or "hot spots" for the younger set. Though I emailed Omar several times during our stay with questions, he never replied. Additionally, the public living space was on the fifth floor (which I neglected to notice while reading others' feedback), and each floor has about 20 stairs. At the end of a day after walking hilly Marseille, it could be tough! Lastly, there are no screens. It was 90 degrees F while we were there, so, at night, with the shutters slightly open to get some air, we were inundated with mosquitos. All in all, we loved the neighborhood, but were sorely missing the advice of a local. We did not see a bakery, grocery store, or wine store in our walks. We could have used help, but had none. FYI--our taxi ride to the airport (which Omar's son arranged) was 70 euros!

Omar is a warm and welcoming host. He resides in the building, and is in the spot with any requests. Spacious and perfectly located, I would for sure return to this home.

The house: As pictured, large, spacious, and versatile. Three double bedrooms, two on one floor which share a bathroom and one occupying its own floor with an en suite bathroom. The top floor is the kitchen with the very airy terrace (overlooking the inner courtyard). The house is bright and well ventilated, very comfortable, and that terrace is a great place for mealtime or to lounge. The host: The moment we met Omar on our arrival, I felt at ease and confident we would enjoy our stay, and we did! He is cosmopolitan, cultured gracious, discreet, and very helpful. The perfect host. The neighborhood: This house is located in the center of Le Panier, Marseille's historic district, which I would describe as "Venice without the canals" (narrow, winding medieval streets) meets the New York's East Village (filled with small arty boutiques, galleries, cafés). In the summer, the neighborhood bar has live music at least once a week, out in the square, which attracts a wonderfully mixed crowd of locals from the neighborhood and city and also tourists. From here you can also easily walk down to the old port and from there to the city center. Or you can also walk down the other side and reach the Mucem (the spectacular new museum). The house is a few minutes from an excellent bakery, a small grocery, a fruit and vegetable guy, and an excellent wine store. Personally I couldn't imagine a better location: lively yet in an offbeat way, central, and generally quiet at night. I would highly recommend Omar and his house to any city-loving friends.

Omar was a fantastic host and the place is absolutely perfect for a group that need to be close to places to eat, night life and transport. Thanks for having us, I would definitely stay again.

Omar's Airbnb was comfortable for 7 people. The rooms were spacious and clean. Omar stays in his part of the apartment complex and having him so close was very helpful as he was able to give us good advice and assistance. The area was close to many different restaurants and also to the main port.
