9/3/21: FALL CALENDAR NOW OPEN! 120 year old adobe Bakery, artfully converted into a serene sanctuary right in the middle of all the action: Downtown, Community Center, Theaters, Restaurants, and the Streetcar.

Ideal for families, couples, or friends who like spacious gathering areas, but also desire the privacy of separate bedrooms & bathrooms.

Perfect for travelers who value the authenticity of old buildings, but also desire the comfort and convenience of modern upgrades

The space
Large common area, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (a rarity in historic homes) and private courtyard with high walls. This is a home where you won't be tripping over your luggage or your traveling companions.

New mattresses, gel topped, and fitted with luxury linens.
Relax in your private courtyard. Gather in the huge, light-filled great room.

The main bedroom has a queen bed, the sun room bedroom has a king bed.*There is also a fully finished 'root cellar' with a daybed, which is not counted as a bedroom because it does not have outside egress.

Huge great room with large bar-height gathering table that seats 8, adjacent to sofa/chair seating for 9.

Your own private, high-walled courtyard with an Orange tree, garden, fountain, natural gas grill, vintage patio table and chairs.

Luxury linens, new beds/sofas, full sized washer/dryer. Completely outfitted kitchen with stainless steel appliances-gas stove, dishwasher, full size refrigerator with ice-maker, drip and french press coffee makers, microwave, blender, toaster, mini food processor, condiments, teas, 15 herbs/spices, Fitz & Floyd dishes, stainless flatware for 8. The 55" smart TV streams Netflix and Amazon Prime, hi speed internet, WiFi, Bose sound speaker, original art, designer lighting.

Note: Because of the steep stairway that leads down to the root cellar, this house is not appropriate for young children.

The King can, upon special request, be converted to 2 twin beds, however it takes 2 people to do this so there is an additional fee.

Where you’ll be

Tucson, Arizona, United States

Armory Park is one of those wonderful, revitalizing urban neighborhoods with warmth, history, authentic charm, and something unique around every corner. This is NOT a standardized "planned" neighborhood. If you want manicured landscaping, public pools, matching houses, & matching people, this area is probably not going to make you happy. If you think you might get on well in an eclectic, diverse (but peaceful) environment, then give it a try.

History: Named for the armory of the barracks that protected the Presidio during the Apache wars. Armory Park was one of the first neighborhoods on the National Historic Register. Housing the owners and management with the Southern Pacific RailRoad, the neighborhood started as one of the wealthier areas, but became seedy and run-down after WWII. It is being restored to its former glory, and is currently at that great transitional stage where bohemians, artists, graduate students, hipsters, and energetic boomers all coexist. All sharing an appreciation of the authenticity of the place in the famous 'laid back' Tucson style.

Although it is adjacent to downtown and the most active urban scene in Tucson, this is a quiet, residential neighborhood. Adobe walls are, by nature, thick and sound-proof.

I have lived in Tucson most of my adult life, and I love it. My husband and I travel a lot, and have found that we like exploring older, eclectic neighborhoods. The less 'planned,' the better. We love old buildings that have been re-purposed from commercial/industrial to residential use. So when we found the "Bakery" in 2014, we bought it the day we saw it, even though we already had a perfectly good house in the Tucson area. We plan to live here full time when we retire. That won't happen for a few years, but since this is a one-of-a-kind building, we had to get it when it became available. What could be cooler than to say you live in a Bakery? Since it had been owner occupied by a contractor for 25 years, it was already in great shape, and we had just inherited some wonderful antique furniture, so we decided to rent it out short term, on a fairly limited basis, so that it didn't sit empty. It has proven to be a wonderful experience. The types of guests who like older, unusual buildings have proven to be the best possible type of guests who really enjoy trying different types of dwellings. And it seems a surprising number of other people want to live in a Bakery, even if only for a few days.

This is our future downtown home, but we currently live in a suburban area, about 20 minutes away. We have lived in Tucson for over 45 years, and eat out a lot and have gone to most the local places. We will gladly share our 'heavily opinionated insider tips' if you ask. (Cycling, Food, Desert Gardening, People Watching, Weird Tucson Facts are our specialties.) We can be easily reached if you need something, but otherwise you have complete privacy.
