Host: Ana Maria
This is an exquisite little home in Lima's Barranco neighborhood. Ana Maria is a perfect little Peruvian grandmother who's lived in the area her entire life and bought this house 15 years ago. About two years ago, her son, Armando, who manages the listing, set her up with AirBnB. So she's essentially a host mother to a variety of travelers from around the world. The house is on a slightly run-down block about a 5-10 minute walk from the heart of Barranco where the main plaza, restaurants and bars are. If you're a woman on your own or don't speak Spanish you may feel a bit weird about the stroll from her place to the main area, but my wife and I never really had any issues. It's a busy city with a ton of cars and traffic so just keep your wits about you and stay off of your phone. The room itself is pretty small but cute and has a plenty of natural light. It's right next to another room that's available and will probably be occupied as well. You share a bathroom with the people who have that room. Ana Maria sleeps down the hall. Everything is extremely clean and organized and Ana Maria is a wonderful host. The house also offers a beautiful and tranquil garden to enjoy and have a glass of wine in. Her husband is also usually around but keeps to himself. There's no A/C but she provides you with a fan which provides a breeze and some white noise which is welcome. The shower has hot water but the water pressure is a bit lacking, may just be a matter of unclogging the shower head.
Overall it was a lovely visit, but it has to be noted that if you're a light sleeper, you're not going to survive at this location. Right across the street there is an elementary school and you can hear children screaming and playing from what seemed like 7:30am until the afternoon. Also the shades don't block out the light very much. The window doesn't provide too much relief from the sound and the city is just very loud. Cars, motorcycles, honking, construction... it was truly very loud, surprisingly so. I wouldn't write about it if it wasn't memorable, but bring some earplugs and eye masks and you'll be a-ok.
That being said, it's an extremely affordable and cute spot and Ana Maria was helpful with arriving and leaving. She even called us a cab a couple of times and got us better prices than we would've negotiated on our own. We shared a bottle of white wine with her on her couch and I felt like I had a new surrogate abuela (grandmother) for a few moments, which was magic.
The reservation was canceled 6 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Maria the hostess was very very helpful and even got up at 5am to make sure we got off in the taxi on the morning we left. The apartment was clean and comfortable and in a good location, a five minute walk to the cafes and restaurants in Barranco.
The only down side was that the car traffic outside the window was quite noisy at night even though the street is quite small
Overall we had a good stay and we would recommend it.
Casa Anita was a great place to have as a home base in Lima. It is in Barranco and walking distance to the metropolitano express bus that takes you through Lima and Miraflores. Also walking distance to Miraflores and the beaches in Barranco. The house is kept very clean and Ana Maria is a wonderful host, available to help with anything you need.
Thank you for the great time in Barranco, Peru!
The host, Ana María, was great. She was always kind and helpful, if questions asked. My experience was good; internet speed was great (which is strange in Lima as far as I can tell), cleanliness and coziness factors also good. Hot water in the shower; the room was spacious and had enough room for clothes (closet and dresser). The neighborhood, however, was not very pretty and I was a little disappointed about that. It is close to the main park in Barranco, and close to the metropolitano bus line, so technically speaking the place is very well located (very well). But the neighborhood is a little noisy and not pleasant to look at or walk in. But Anita's house is very nice. The backyard is beautiful and it feels like an oasis. So all's basically great, with the exception of the neighborhood. But if you don't plan to spend too much time in the house, then it's a perfect place to stay!
I spent one lovely month at Ana Maria's home in Barranco and can recommend it! The place is beautiful, very clean, the water is hot, in the kitchen you find everything you need and the patio is a great place to work or just hang out. Ana Maria really cares about her guests and will take you to the places you are looking for, help you with anything and even let you try the fruits she bought. The street can be a bit noisy at night - but for me this didnt cause any problems. If you want to get a taste of beautiful Barranco off the tourist spots and at the same be well connected to the Metropolitano, this place is a good choice!
