About this listing

Located in New York’s Chinatown, on a narrow street next to popular local restaurants & hidden gems like Apotheke cocktail bar and Chinese Tuxedo, I have a bright loft-style live/work space, which I redesigned to suit my personal aesthetic. Aside from two small private bedrooms, there is an open living and kitchen area, with a big center table to eat, sit and work. The bathroom has natural light, a rain shower and a small customized vanity. The floors were painted white to reflect the light.

The space

My place is a simple, calm retreat with a ficus tree, which helps feel calm and relaxed in the big city. Here are some details about your room, rental & neighborhood:

• Chinatown/ Soho border
• A few blocks from various subway lines (B, D, J, Z, N, Q, R, F, 4, 5, 6)
• Convenient Manhattan location. Close to plenty of exciting cafés, restaurants and galleries in Soho and Lower East Side

• For rent is one small but bright room with a full-size bed with upholstered headboard (sleeps 2), clothes rack, lamps, art, and a small mirror cabinet. There is a dresser for your folded clothes and socks just outside of the bedroom door as well as space to store your empty suitcase.

• Shared open space with large table for dining and mingling. Open kitchen with induction cook top, fridge and freezer. Bathroom with rain shower, custom made vanity and small window.

• It's a quiet, productive, and artistic environment. It's not a party pad. The places to party are just around the corner; don't bring the party home. No smoking. No drugs.
• Great for travelers, interns, students, or professionals temporarily in town for business.
• If you are staying for more than two weeks at a time, I will charge a security deposit, which is 35% of the daily rate, with a minimum of $500. The deposit will be returned upon inspection at check out, given that there are no damages to the property or anything belonging to the property.

A $40 cleaning fee per stay will be added upon placing your reservation. If your stay is 2 nights or less, please contact me about a possible fee reduction.

Guest access

Accessible to you are your room, the living room and kitchen, as well as the bathroom. Please don't access my room and my walk in closet. Roof access is strictly forbidden by the land lord for both, second floor and fifth floor roofs!

Interaction with guests

I will always try to be present at arrival. If I am unable to be there, the keys will be deposited for you at an agreed upon location. I will send you a welcome note with arrival information upon booking. I ask that you be respectful of my neighbors by checking in and out quietly, especially with regards to the luggage. If you need help with carrying the luggage through the stairwell, please let me know. I will try to be there to help you.

Great price and hosting for a great, very central location.

Cornelia has obviously thought through the details of what a person needs to be comfortable with an Air BNB stay. Her place isn't large, but she overcomes that with clever solutions for a place to store guests' luggage, hang clothes, store toiletries, and be comfortable with small details like a remote for the bedside light, an opoque privacy paper over the bedroom window that allows privacy but lets in daylight (there's also a shade if you don't want light), and an accommodating and welcoming host.

The place was located in a convenient place to go around New York. We could get cheap food near the house and cook.

Cornelia was really kind and gave me real good advices and directions for NY. The place was really clean, including the room, the common area, kitchen and the bathroon. It is close to subways and really full of people. It's a nice place to spend the night.

It is located in China town, easy to find food to eat. Brooklyn bridge and subway are in walking distance. If you want to experience China town, soho, little Italy, here is a nice place to stay.

I'm not quite sure how this listing received any good reviews. The pictures were terribly deceiving. You had enough room in the room to MAYBE breath. One fart and you better hope you can open the entire window. Cornelia also wasn't easy to get in touch with. She was not exactly friendly, either. The bathroom picture shows wood to the left of the sink, not sure where that was when we went because the bathroom is not updated at all. The place was cluttered and dirty. The only great part was the amazing location to restaurants. But please, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else! Oh and another note, we ran out of toilet paper the first night and it wasn't replaced before we left. So that was super fun. I wish I was joking but I'm not.

Response from Cornelia:
To my guests, While I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion, I believe that this review is misguiding and includes false statements. I am therefore compelled to post some clarifying information about this review: I take my job as a host very serious and I go out of my way to respond to my guests within a couple hours. This was no different with Brianna. I personally waited for them to checked them in at their preferred arrival time. I showed them around the apartment and provided assistance on how to navigate the neighborhood. I did all of this without any delay or inconvenience to my guest! Further, I provided a written welcome note prior her arrival, which explained in detail how to navigate the apartment and where to find things, including extra toilet paper. There was plenty of it stocked in the cabinet. If she had read the email, she would have known where to find it, or she could have asked me; I would have been happy to show her. My bathroom has all new plumbing fixtures (updated no more than 3 years ago), and the wood shower tray was replaced by my landlord with a new white shower pan about one year ago. Since I am a designer, my apartment has is a mix of custom made furniture and objects by friends and colleagues, who are all very creative individuals and successful at what they do. Yes, the bedrooms are small but I make no mystery of that. If one takes the time to read my profile, one can read that the bedrooms are small and that it is done intentionally in order to preserve the open and lofty feel of the rest of the floor-through space. For those that are familiar with loft style living, they will be able to enjoy my space. Thank you, Cornelia

Cornelia' apartment is in the heart of China Town, and brings a completely different view of NY. She made us feel very welcome, especially as we were nervous because this was the first time we had used Airbnb, but actually it was like staying with a friend, which was great. Transport links into central Manhattan were good, but it is well worth exploring the local area. It's easy to walk to SoHo, Greenwich Village and even Brooklyn across the bridge from Cornelia's flat. Lots of restaurants in the area, but for those coming from the UK, beware of the price of the bottles of wine- very expensive.
