If you want to enjoy a sunny apartment, old style high ceiling with huge windows, in one of the oldest and nicest central neighborhoods near Acropolis, with a great variety of restaurants, bars and shops around, this is the place for you!
Welcome to my easy modern youth apartment in Acropolis' neighborhood in the heart of Athens.
It is a 3 room apartment in a traditional high ceiling house, sunny and cozy with a small cute balcony. It has two bedrooms with double beds pull out sofas type and a living room in the middle. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and there is also wi-fi. There is an Air-condition in one of the bedrooms and a fan in the other and has independent heating.
Ιt is situated on Filopappou hill, next to Acropolis, in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. In the area around you can find supermarkets, shops, bookstores, pharmacies, bakeries and banks for your basic needs. Every Friday there is the local fruit and vegetable market in the neighborhood street.
In 5 minutes walking distance you are under Acropolis hill!
Within walking distance there are nice restaurants and bars in the new hip area of Ano Petralona. The nearest metro is Siggrou-fix, 10 minute walk. There are also trolley buses from Syntagma and other central points.
Interaction with Guests
As I dont live in Athens my interaction with the guests is only through email and phone.
Other Things to Note
The house is strictly for up to 4 people not more.
Getting the keys: As I don't live in Athens, I arrange with my cousin either to wait for you at the house when she can or leave the keys at a nearby restaurant where you would have to pick them up.
Because it is a residential area please also note that Greeks have a siesta and between 2.30 and 5.30pm it is by law quiet hours also after 10.30 at night.
Hello guests! wellcome to my home, please treat it as your own! Because most of the times I will not be there with you, please take some notice on the following easy requests:
Towels are not provided so please bring your own. Before leaving please check and empty the fridge from any food left, wash any dishes that you have used, close all windows, check that the hot water heating button is off, and throw away the garbage.
Please also dont put any hot cups directly on the wooden tables as they burn the varnish and leave marks. And finally put some water to the plants when in summertime.
Thank you for your consideration and have a nice stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at Marilia's apartment! It felt very homey and had more than enough space for three quests. Although we didn't get to meet Marilia, the process of getting the keys from her cousin went very smoothly. We would definitely stay there again!
Marilia's flat is very cosy and nice, very well situated near the Acropolis and walking distance from all main sights in Athens. Its sunny and light, we spent a wonderful week. At first it was difficult for me to figure out all the amenities (heat, hot water) as greek system is very specific, but Marilia was helpful and responded to all my questions. Also i forgot to bring the towels, however that was my fault as it skipped my mind, althou it was indicated in the instructions.
The key transmission went very smoothly. The apartment was in nice and quite neighbourhood. It was as described, very colourful and cozy!
We have spent 3 nights in Marilia's apartment.
The apartment is just like in the pictures - colorful, nicely decorated, inviting you to discover each corner of this place and making you want to meet the owners of the apartment.
The facilities were also just as described in the listing.
Unfortunately we did not met Marilia as she directed us to meet her cousin for the apartment keys.
We also appreciate Marilia's understanding in allowing us to keep our luggage in the apartment in the departure day. This saved us a lot of trouble - Thank you Marilia!
The minuses of this place came from:
1. The apartment keys - in order to get these we had to do a detour. It was not very handy in the late evening with our luggage to wander in searching the bar where Marilia's cousing worked to hand us over the keys. We had tried calling Marilia a few times once we have arrived in the city as we needed her help with the taxi driver and the address where to go. Unfortunately (she told us later) that she was in a very loud place and could not hear our phone. Luckily we managed somehow and got the keys.
I would have preferred an easier way to get the keys or even meet us at the apartment. This would have save us some time.
2. The bathroom size and smell - the bathroom is really really small.... I couldn't have tell this from the pictures of this apartment. And there was a bad smell that maybe came from the sewage, but that you could not get rid of.
3. The hallway in the apartment smell - there was a specific smell that would greet you as soon as you enter the apartment. It's that familiar smell that one gets when visiting your aunt or grandma's apartment. I think it's due to the building which is also old and the things inside the apartment. But you could easily get familiar with this so it's not too bad.
Clean, light filled, large apartment about 15minutes walk to Sygrou Fix metro (one stop away from the Akropolis). The apartment had everything we needed and more, Marilia organised the key handover very well (despite our own lack of organisation) and the area was quiet and safe. ....overall this place is amazing value for money! Thanks Marilia!
Ps. we loved the nearby Olympiou street for dinner and drinks
Me and my friends had a great time at the apartment. It's very cozy and has a lot of personality with so many little details to be discovered, starting with the handwritten notice of your first steps in the apartment up until the rotary dial phone.
It was close the Akropolis (15 minute walk maybe) but is still situated in a very quite quiet neighbourhood (where you could be plucking lemons from trees along the street) with some nice cafés/bars nearby.
Spent 10 nights at the apartment and found the location to be spot on for exploring the outer reaches (beaches and islands) of Athens as the local transportation network was excellent and easy to use. The flat is in a quite residential area that felt very safe to walk round at night and is in easy reach of local restaurants and bakeries. Marilia was easy to contact and came back quickly with any requests for assistance. The flat itself was spotless with plenty of hot water and lovely clean bedding and was a brilliant base for us to explore a wonderful city from.
