Just few rules:
1) Respect the neighbors. Since you are living in a building with normal flats and people who are permanently living here you must respect the neighbors. You are NOT ALLOWED to listen loud music/tv or to do party inside the flat. Especially before 8 am and after 9pm you must avoid any noise that can be disturb other people.
2) Use of Internet. You are not allowed to download any program or file that is not legal. Police's german downloading rules are quite strictly and if something illegal has been downloaded, they can catch you and let pay fees (around 2000 €).
3) Smoking in the flat is not allowed.
This flat is beautiful and in a great location. We enjoyed staying here.
I have been a frequent satisfied user of airbnb, and never wanted to write a review such as this one.
But the fact of the matter is that Mario acted like a PREDATOR even before we arrived at his flat. My girlfriend and I were made to feel not only unwelcome, but unsafe, all "perfectly timed" so that changing reservations would have been difficult even if Mario had been open to this, which he wasn't.
Mario started talking about all the "bad" things his previous tenants had done and then warned us not to do them too. This was 48 hours before we were to arrive. I asked Mario if I should cancel the reservation because he was making me feel as if he wanted me to pay him money but not actually inhabit the place.
When we arrived, we were given 1 key, no knowledge of how to use the buzzers that are common in Berlin, or even if we had one. Mario repeatedly dodged these questions and suggested I "try" various buzzers--this from someone who has as a "rule," "don't carry your luggage loudly?" What does that even mean, and how or why is it a rule.
The place was in an inner courtyard, we had one key, and there apparently was no outside buzzer and there may or may not have been an inner buzzer. . .these are all things I deduced from Mario's mendacious, prevaricating, and threatening communications with me.
Even this would not have been a huge problem if Mario, a self-professed web designer, had not worked out a money-saving scheme to give us a wifi without an in-apartment router, one which worked only sporadically. So, since my girlfriend and I had one key, no access to buzzers, and almost unworkable internet, we felt completely on edge the whole time and were hampered in pursuing our respective professional endeavors in Berlin.
When I asked Mario about these things, which were not in the advertisement, he ignored my requests. When I complained to him about his ignoring of my questions, taking up the issue with him directly as airbnb recommends, he complained about us to airbnb formally but of course in a completely misleading way, as if we were the cause of our own discomfort and dissatisfaction--there are many things one could like or not like about an apartment, this is fundamental.
In addition to this, Mario said we had to leave his flat immediately or he would "call the Kreuzberg police." Apparently airbnb worked something out so that we could leave the next morning, recognizing how unreasonable Mario was being and seeing the full context of our disagreement.
Many more things could be said, but I have only kept it to the most basic and bullying things, the things that made us feel not only unwelcome but unsafe. Mario is a predator and many of my claims are backed up (though apparently he was at his worst with us) by other reviews. Mario=scary, predatory, bullying.
This studio is only a few steps from the Ubahn and buzzing Bergmanstrasse. I love the location! The flat itself is light and spacious.
I stayed for a week and also stayed in to work a little.
Some earplugs might come in handy since the building is in a courtyard so reflects noise. Not a problem when you sleep with the windows closed though.
Mario and Sofia were very helpful overall. Apartment looks exactly like the photos. Beautiful location. Internet at the apartment doesn't work very well.
