I hope you visit Manhattan soon and enjoy your stay at my beautiful apartment!
Rox was kind and friendly host. She was able to accommodate our arrival and departure times, and provided some food money for us as well. There were plenty of clean sheets and towels provided for my family (2 adults, 3 kids; 12, 10, & 8). On the day of the arrival, the kitchen sink was not operational, but was repaired that evening. The stove and oven did not work during our visit, but there was a microwave, hot pot, and toaster oven available. The kitchen situation did not impact us all, since we ate out for every meal.
Overall, I'd describe the unit as "adequate." By New York standards, the unit is spacious, with TVs available with Dish Network in the living room and the 2 bedrooms. We spent most of our time out and about, returning in the late evening to sleep, shower, watch TV, and plan the next day. We found the beds to be very comfortable. The apartment is much darker than what is presented in the photos, so some updated photos would be more representative. The building is conveniently located near the 168th street subway stop, so we were able to get downtown quickly on the A subway train. The air conditioning made the apartment very comfortable for us at night.
If you're looking for an "authentic" lodging experience in a vintage NYC apartment, then this apartment definitely fits the bill. If you're seeking something more sterile, or "hotel-like," then this might not be the place for you.
We had a very good stay at Rox's apartment in uptown Manhattan. This was our first experience with airbnb and we have no regrets. We were a family of 6 people and there was space enough to sleep all comfortably. The apartment is bright with enough natural light. The space is tastefully done and clean. Rox was available to deliver and collect the keys in person despite unearthly hours of our arrival and departure. She helped us with some printouts we needed last minute. Elevator in the building was a blessing. Beds are comfortable. Rox provided enough fresh clean towels during our stay. There is paid washer and dryer in the basement useful for guests staying for a longer duration. Subway is at 2 mins walking distance. There are many eating joints and grocery stores in the area. Very safe locality. An excellent option conveniently located and affordable in a good locality. Rox was a good host.
Rox is a very friendly and accommodating host. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and she was flexible with letting us in, and even gave us her parking spot for the weekend! There were plenty of clean sheets and towels and the beds were really comfortable. There were 6-7 of us staying there for two nights, and several people noted how comfortable the beds were. The apartment building is old and has some quirks, but things seem to work fine. The range in the kitchen was not working, but Rox provided a hot plate for us to use, and we didn't spend any time cooking in the apartment anyway. She was very gracious and offered whatever food she had in the fridge, as well as provided cash for breakfast items like coffee, cream, bread, etc. Rox was helpful in offering suggestions for restaurants, markets and directions. Since she is in the performing arts, she's very knowledgeable about events and venues in the area. The subway stop is right at the end of the block. We did not spend much time exploring the neighborhood itself, although it seemed nice and we felt safe walking late at night. You can tell that Rox prides herself on providing a quality experience for her guests and that she is a genuinely caring and good person!
After more than 48 hours on the road we had our first bad experience with airbnb. Airbnb team suggested Rox’s apartment and she was a life saver. Her apartment was available 30 minutes after she received our message.
This apartment turned out to be a better alternative than the first one: it sleeps 6 comfortably, has a living room, kitchen, laundry, etc.. and it is conveniently located 2 minutes from a subway station.
You will hardly find a place in Manhattan with this quality / price ratio.
Rox was a very nice and thoughtful host. From the very start she made us feel very comfortable and answered all our questions very carefully. She showed herself very happy of having us there. She gave us also lot of useful information to enjoyed the city, specially about cultural and music circuit. There were not negative surprises in the flat. Something to remark is the fact that was plenty of clean sheets and towels, and that you can use the food in the fridge!!!! She made feel us as friends and shared with us her passion on music. Great voice!!!!!!
We had a great time at Rox's place. The forniture is different from the one shown in the pictures, but it was clean and very confortable, perfect for a group of four, sure a great place to stay in NY. The metro station is few steps away and you can find many restaurants and markets near the apartment.
Rox is a great host, very nice and caring. We really enjoyed our staying, tx Rox for everything!
Our group of six people were very satisfied with this place. It´s at a good area in NY, subway station is 100metres and also market and other possibilitied of restaurants and cafes. By express subway train, it was about 20 minutes to central Manhattan.
Apartment looks little bit "older" than on pictures, but we had everything we needed. Rox also gave us some money for food and other stuff. She invited the apartment twice during our stay and did some cleaning and coated our beds.
One small bad thing is about bathroom. Bath (tub) looks little bit awful and there is an airspace when we closed the doors of bathroom.
Rox's appartment is comfortable and recommendable for a couple with 2-3 kids. Furnished with taste and fully equipped to suit a family vacation in NYC.
The appartment is 20 minutes away by cab or 40-45' by subway from the main attractions in Manhattan, it may let discover, as it was in our case, Harlem and its sorroundings, much more quiet than the agitated spots south of Central park.
Rox is a very attentive host, and she really cares to offer everything a traveller may need.
If ever back in NYC we won't hesitate to come to the "Heights" again !
Rox was great. Super helpful, flexible and responsive. The apartment has fun/corky NYC feel and was perfect for housing several of us. I would absolutely stay again.
