A quote from a recent guest
"This is probably the coolest house in the coolest neighborhood on the big island. You'll be in Seaview, a block from the lavarock shore. Seaview is filled with friendly island hippies who say hi when they pass you, and everyone knows the Triangle House. Some people know it as the "Cheese House," because it looks like a wedge of swiss cheese lying on its side, with each window a porthole. This is my favorite neighborhood in the 4 that I've stayed at on the big island (kailua-kona/captain cook, hilo, volcano/mt view, na'alehu/ocean view). You're living in a gorgeous jungle, with great ocean access, a plethora of interesting artists and hippies, and the best neighborhood spirit I've seen. Every wednesday, the whole community of the Puna district ends up at a fair on the edge of civilization where the 1970 lava flow literally rolled over the city of Kalapana, called "Uncle Roberts at the End of the Road." I don't know a better way to say hello to a new community than that. Randall is a great host. He's a craftsman who cares a lot about the building, and is trying to improve its design for the people who stay in it. He's super easy to work with. He's been doing constant work on the property. It was designed by an architect who had a dream about "round holes and square pegs" and designed a property with a Triangle house, a Rectangle house, a Circle water catchman, and two Square sheds. There's also a real-life castle next-door. It's like living in a dream."

We were greeted on arrival promptly, Randall gave us a quick tour and let us know about local opportunities. The location was in a nice rural remote area, one block from ocean, convenient for what we had planned. Very clean and comfortable. We actually didn't stay in studio because he was remodeling it, but we were put in much larger adjacent Triangle House at no extra charge.
Randall was a great host. Make sure you look-over all of his listings as he has quite the diversity of choices. Seaview Estates is the place to be when you are on the South East side of the Big Island. So much to explore and do.
Second time visiting Puna coast and staying w Randall. Outstanding accommodations. Magical place.
The studio was charming: larger and more luxurious than I expected. The garden just outside the front door is lovely. The neighborhood felt safe and was fun to explore. As others have said, Randall was friendly but unobtrusive. Highly recommended!
We had an enjoyable, relaxing, month-long stay at Randall's studio. It is in a great area with plenty to see and do. We only saw Randall for the first week and he was very helpful and shared the squash, bananas and papayas growing on the property with us. We also enjoyed use of the BBQ grill and washing machine! We would have liked to stay in the upstairs apartment for our stay, as the half-fridge wasn't quite big enough for us and noise from upstairs renters is VERY loud, but overall it was a great stay and I would recommend it!
Apartment is in an isolated neighborhood near the end of narrow well paved road through the countryside and forest. The coastline along here is rugged and really promotes the feeling of getting away from it all. The experience was very casual and we enjoyed sitting out on the lanai with our beverages. Some folks might not like the sound of the frogs at night, but we did. Recommended for folks who want an experience out of the ordinary. Just take your time on the road if you are driving in the dark and respect the neighborhood.
