Welcome to Portland and our wonderful home.
We are Emily, an art director/designer/artist/musician; Adam, a musician/screenprinter; Cowbear the cat, and Donut the little dog.
Our home has wonderful amenities:
Huge remodeled kitchen with concrete counter tops, 5 burner gas stove. yes, we love to cook! And have many wonderful Le Creuset cookware, nice Shun knives, dishwasher, and raw walnut counter top.
Our wonderfully big open living room is decked out with kilim rugs,1970's leather chair, and driftwood chandelier, and many plants, Emily's art as well as art from local artists, and artifacts from our travels.
The lush backyard has a fire pit, fruit trees, organic vegetable garden and nice spots to lay about in the sun on one of our many woven blankets. Though for the season it's a bit overgrown.
We have 2 rooms for rent, and your room has one south facing window, a SUPER comfy QUEEN sized bed on a handmade bed frame, dresser and closet. All brand new bedsheets, and duvet covers.
You will share a bathroom that has a rain shower, lots of plants, and toilet and sink with our other guests if they are there, and we also use that shower sometimes, but we have our own bathroom.
There is also a toilet just off the kitchen.
We use all natural soaps and cleaning products, and are sensitive to strong perfumes and colognes. Please be respectful of using them in the house. We are totally into essential oils and nice smelling things, but everyones nose is different!
We are still working on our home and there are a few unfinished things, but they are all cosmetic, and nothing that takes away from the comforts and overall style of the place.
Collectively we have lived in Portland for over 25 years, and will happily share our favorite breakfast spots, bars, venues, and more with you! Maybe there is a cool BBQ, concert, or art opening while you are in town, we will let you know!
Our home is close to Alberta Street, Mississippi ave, the Sunday farmers market is 2 blocks away! There are multiple transit options within 2 blocks as well.
We are near great bars, fantastic dining, and a few great parks as well.
Pets allowed on a case by case basis.
We really look forward to having you in our home.
Emily, Adam, Cowbear, and Donut.
You are welcome to use our kitchen, hang out in the backyard, and make yourselves at home on the front porch.
We work for ourselves and sometimes we are on crazy deadlines, and other times we have lots of time to hang out! Sometimes we head out of town to go camping and guests love to feed our cat! Other times we are home cooking up delicious things to share.
2 blocks from our house is the number 6 bus which takes you towards downtown, and all the way to the downtown farmers market.
4 blocks away is Everybody's Bicycles where you can rent bikes. Everyone has been happy with the service there.
You are welcome to use our kitchen, hang out in the livingroom, backyard, and front porch. We want you to feel at home!
Interaction with Guests
We work for ourselves so sometimes we are super busy, and other times we are home making meals and cocktails...
We love it when our guests are up to their own thing out exploring the city, and occasionally around to share an evening beer.
We hope you treat our home with the care that you would treat your own place. We have rebuilt this place from the old bones of it's 1906 frame, and put lots of love into it.
If you cook, we hope you will clean up after yourself. We ask that no wooden utensils or nice knives go in the dishwasher. You are welcome to use our oils and spices, but if you use up anything or use a lot we hope you will please replace it.
Also if you wear strong scents, cologne, or perfume, we ask that you please refrain from wearing it in the house. We use all natural unscented detergents.
Otherwise, we want you to feel comfortable and at home in our home.
The front gate must always be closed right behind you when you are coming in and out, as the dog has his tricky ways of escaping!
Emily and Adam are friendly and helpful, and their home is filled with interesting ,artistic touches. The home is still a work in progress, so there are some unfinished elements. It's a charming older house, which means creaky floors, shared walls with the owners and other guests (they rent 2 rooms) and a shared bathroom with other guests. These things were bothersome to my husband, not at all to me. You may want to bring earplugs and/or white noise machine if you are sensitive.
These hosts were phenomenal! Not overly zealous or in your face at all, but made us feel super welcome! They were so ready to help us in anything to make our stay better! There house was great and they sure know how to treat others!
Emily and Adam's house was Instagram beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay. Alberta and Mississippi are both easy walking distance and there are loads of great restaurants, bars and breakfast spots. Emily and Adam's recommendations were excellent and we ate very well (and far too much) during our stay. The set-up works well; it is casual but Emily and Adam are both friendly and helpful if you need anything. It was only a pity about the weather...
I really liked the way the house was decorated with all the uniquely artistic furniture. This was the first time I visited Portland and I will definitely go back. I appreciate Emily and Adam for letting us stay at the house even though they were away and we didn't see each other. I enjoyed the company of the cat, cowbear. What a lovely cat! the dog was a bit suspicious of us and shy on the 1st day but started to open his heart and was more friendly on the second day. Their friends were nice and friendly:)
We never got to meet Emily and Adam as they were on vacation, but their two friends who were house sitting were very sweet!
I'd wanted to stay at this airbnb since I planned my trip to Portland because of its inspiring interior, and I was definitely not disappointed. If you're into home design you will enjoy this place!
Also, the Alberta District where the house is located is in my opinion way more interesting than downtown Portland.
Adam was a great host and made us feel welcome. Their place is lovely and well decorated. They have a very sweet cat and a small dog, who acts to protect the house when someone walks by. There are excellent restaurants nearby, although I recommend making reservations ahead of time to get into the best ones.
Really very lovely house. Fantastic art, yummy textiles, ceramics and luscious plants! I just saw Emily and Adam once but they seemed super nice! The animals are cute and friendly too!
They keep the place nice and clean. It's warm but not stuffy at all. Bed was very comfortable- loved the bathroom and kitchen! I used the kitchen a bit and came and went with total ease throughout my stay!

We are a fashion designer/musician/artist/creative director/foodie and a screenprinter/musician/sports fan/best friend/designer super thrilled to travel and host wonderful guests in our favorite place.
We are avid thrift-shoppers and have amazing luck when it comes to discovering treasures and parking spaces. With this special knack, we create beauty in our space, and consider the atmosphere to be a very important part of the day.
Recently our home was featured in the beautiful Japanese lifestyle magazine Ku:nel, and also on Portlandia. In the spring we will also be featured in a beautiful new book about Bohemian homes. We are excited that our love of interior spaces has allowed us to create intentional and plant filled space to host you.
Emily loves to cook, read, make art, eat at the best restaurants, get out into nature, and spend time with friends playing music, feasting, and enjoying the good life that the Northwest has to offer. She is pretty into Instagram and would love if you tag the photos of our house with @Emily_Katz and @Goldenruledesign, so we can see what you post!
Adam owns his own screenprinting business, he loves the outdoors, can school you on basketball trivia, and loves to eat as much as Emily loves to cook.
We look forward to hosting you and sharing our favorite places with you!
